@ChristineCAlb I know, right? It scared me too. I can't find any mention of it, but as I recall the Dad would use a mirror to blind the dino so they could make it back to the cave. Sometimes they'd have Chaka, sometimes not. A lot of folks poke fun of the claymation. Sid and Marty Croft did that on a tight budget with NO computer technology. Let's see the critics do it as good, and include actors and costumes. Then maybe I'll be impressed with the critique! ;)
@backyardsounds Those were the days! It brings a tear to my eyes to see my kids and others grow up in this wasteland of video games and technology...the true value of family and living life has been lost.
@TheHungariandevil I was looking at some old photos of myself at this time along with friends and such - one big thing that sticks out is that all the photographs were out of doors. All of us were thin and the caucasian kids all had some sort of a tan. Now, all you see indoor shots of kids who are very over weight, and pale or posting what I call duck lip pictures for facebook or Twitter. It's sickening really.
@backyardsounds Same here, me and my sister were always outside either swimming, skating, riding bikes, making up games in the backyard, digging in the dirt, playing with friends and every weekend family friends would come over and we'd BBQ and all play games together. The only time we were ever inside was if we were sick, had to use the restroom or go to bed and even then we'd sometimes pitch tents and sleep outside. In all our pictures as kids we had a genuine happiness on our faces.
I remember this well, Saturday mornings around 6 or 7 am channel 4 NBC. This would begin my cartoon watching for the day which wouldn't end until around 12:00. Then I would get dressed and go out to see what the kids on my street were up to. Sure was fun!
@Blong114 - this show had a 90s or late 80s version which was REALLY cheesy. Seriously, for its day the ideas Sid and Marty Croft used were very good. Folks make fun of the dinosaur or the characters but if you really look at it and then realize what decade you're dealing with and the money they had, it's really impressive. Lastly, the fact that so many folks in their 30s remember it vividly, should tell you how popular it was. The live action movie was hilarious. I loved it!
I didn't know any better...I was just a kid when this show was in first run episodes! Looked real to me...and scary whenever the sleestacks would attack! And anybody dis'ing on The Land of the Lost I'm guessing probably also dis' on Thunderbirds.
For it's day and the limited budget they had. The program was actually very well done. Even with today's computer tech in the home and all the software available, you will need to know how to work the stop motion of the puppets (the dino) and furthermore, the sleestaks weren't too shabby, IMO. Heck, the movie version with Will Ferrell and its sleestaks weren't that very far off from the originals. The acting wasn't THAT bad but hey, we're talking about a Saturday morning kid show here!
Horribly lame. Just terrible. What did I ever see in this show?!
Hahaha! You know how it goes. You look back on something you used to watch a lot as a kid, then you realize it was just plain ridiculous. The only credit I can give this show these days is that it started my fascination with dinosaurs and prehistoric life.
@backyardsounds I always thought that dinosaurs exists because of this show. I always feared the dinosaur when he roars and put his mouth into the camera when I was 3 or 4. People like MickeyRiley was raised up spoiled on Pixar and computer software that makes it easier to do special effects.I thought they did a terrific job on the dinosaur which I think still holds its own today
Drug reference - HIGH on the rapids. lol!

LOL! That really cracked me up! Yeah, I watch it daily for the banjo music.
So, can you recreate that? I'm thinking of doing a spoof of this. It's harder than you think.

Come on MickeyRiley, that thing was WAY ahead of its time! You can't judge special effects based upon today's tech? Base it on the day!
