  • Poor thing

  • Why didn't you just use a real pressing comb? You don't have a family member or friend who knows how to use a hot comb and is willing to run one through your hair? Are there no black haircare pro's in your area? Thats a shame, girl.

  • that is true that the back of the comb straightens the hair. but i would do a blow out with a blowdryer and use a quality flat iron afterwards. i was in beauty school, and this girl had the babyliss pro nano titanium flat iron. That thing is the bomb lol. that should work

  • Now i get that silky relaxed flowing shinny look when ever i want. I also keep my natural curls cause i \use heat protectant products. My sister who is relaxed keeps playing in my hair telling me how soft it is and passing me dirty looks hehe... so good luck and god bless hun with your hair.

  • Hun its because you are using the wrong tools for your hair. My hair did the same thing yours did. But i did not give up, instead what id did was invest in a good professional tool. I of course did not want to spend a ton of money so i hit tjmax and i got the babyliss gt pro titanium plates. Now just remember that the ceramics are for processed hair and titanium is for natural hair so i am sure there is prob. a cheaper model out there i just didnt want to fool around to much...

  • the right products its heaven

  • When i had attempted to put a heating comb or flat iron on my thick 4c hair, i always stop I few minutes after, & I run to rehydrate my hair with water. With my experience direct heat makes my hair feel horrible, and terrible. But if I mechanically stretch it and hydrate, condition and use protect styles like twist, and such. 4 hair becomes so much easier to mange than if you wear in lose styles a lot. And good products are essentials many hair products do nothing for 4c hair, but when you find

  • Do you know toyaboo2 page? She has 4b hair and she straightened it a few months ago. It came out great.

  • putting your heat protectant and products in while its wet helps alot... also i recently straightened my hair after being natural for 3 years (im 4c natural) i used the jilbere porcelain ceremic flat iron on level 30 and it came out really straight. At first my ends were puffy untill i went over it a few times i used the technique in this video

  • on taren916's page called ♥ Soooo... I Straightened My Hair!! ♥ if u want to fast forward to the technique go to 7 minutes.. i hope this helps :)

  • I don't blow dry or flat iron my hair because it takes too long and I get frustrated. I have no problems with doing even mini twists but there is something with blow drying my hair that just irks me...lol

  • You have great hair. Just don't put any product in your hair before you flat iron. While it's wet, put in your leave and heat protectant. When it's dry NOTHING should be added, just your heat.

  • Hey LaLanguage. My hair doesnt have much elasticity unless its wet. My hair is also 4 type super (shrinkage).lol but i was wondering if you could help me with this problem?

  • also i wanted to add when i was younger my hair was SOOOO thick hot combs never worked. So now that I went back natural i see my flat iron isn't working on my hair either. Still trying to find a solution as well.

  • well look at you chica i was looking at videos about the MN and i saw your video in 2009 and i said well lets see how her hair looks now lol. It looks great, how did the MN challenge work for you?

  • did u experience heat damage

  • Hi I've tried exactly what you did and got the same results. i was extremely disappointed because I too was not feeling the kinky look at the time. i eventually went to a Dominican salon to get it done and it looked beautiful and lasted until I had to wash it but it could've gone longer. So maybe you shoud give it a try :)...

  • you should try instyler 3/4 size it is really good for all types of hair.

  • Linsey, I've been following ur vids for a while , and this has happened to me as well. I ha 4B at the front and 4C hair, but no matter wat i do it never straightens how i'd like. I really like both straight and natural hair, but sometimes the lack of versatility gets to me...

  • 4c hair is not meant to be straight so a weave is the route you will be taking.

  • Hi Lindsey! I just want to caution you if you go to a salon, BE CAREFUL and really check out the stylist! In December, my ends felt rough so I went to this press and curl salon and asked the owner for a shampoo, press, trim and curl. I gave her the silicone to put on my hair. She did not apply it evenly (I think she really didn't want to). Long story short - when I shampooed my 4B hair, parts of it were permanently straightened! I did a BC a week ago and I will NOT be going there again!!!

  • Oh and BTW, I sweat profusely in my head... hair still maintained!

  • Girl we are hair twins! I've watched u on your hair journey & we struggle in a lot of the same areas & I must AGREE with the top comments= The correct technique is what makes your hair straight. I had someone blow dry my natural hair straight once before & flat iron my hair afterwards w/ the stove irons & my hair stayed straight for such a long time I did not want to wash it!!! It's all in the technique- I hope I can learn & master it some day b/c I still suck at it & would like a change 2!

  • I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. Maybe when you go to the salon it will be better. I have a similar texture and it never straightens when I do it myself. Its sad lol

  • Of course you will tweak to ur liking. When I used these techniques mine came out silky straight/smooth and bouncy - ciarahoneydip, eSalonSpace, and nappturallyblessed. They all used 450 on their flat irons and the comb chase method. Hope this helps. Be Blessed. Stay positive and strong.

  • Hey Sweetie, I no how you feel but don't give up. I would hate for you to go to a salon and they damage ur hair cause i do believe you can do it. I'm natural as well and have searched for someone with my exact hair type and i found you and boy oh boy have i enjoyed the videos. As we speak I have just finished my shampoo and deep condition and my hair is awesome. Thank you sooo much. After all that, lol, here are some channels that I think you will find helpful. Itis the technique.

  • Ditto to everyone else. I have the same issue or even worse-even the thin edges. I've just been wearing wigs and sew-ins because I get to frustrated.

  • you ladies are all so helpful ...

  • I had the same experience over the summer. I felt like having straight hair and pulled out my flat iron. After all that time and effort, it did not look the way I wanted it. 2 months later, I got it blown out at a Dominican salon. It looked straight and pretty for 1 day, the started to revert. I'm not going to bother trying to have it straight anymore. Takes Too much time, effort and heat

  • I have the same exact electric hot comb, I did one section with the electric, and then brought out the old school hot comb that you heat on the stove. It took me and my mom 4 hours to get through my entire head, and me another 2 hrs to go through and flat iron. My hair looked like a giant black cotton ball. From one 4c to another, I understand how you feel.

  • Def. go to a salon.

  • Maybe should go to a salon

  • Its good u got a sew in because it allows u to keep your natural hair and get your monies worth versus the hot comb.

  • Hey Lindsey, my concern is the amount of smoke that's coming from your hair. Try to use a product with silicones such as the CHI product for african american hair or a product for pressing. Don't use OIL, oil cooks your hair. Don't use the electric comb as if it was a curling iron. The back of the comb is what straightens the hair. Glide the hot comb down the hair while pressing the back of the comb into the hair as if you were trying to create a flip, follow all the way through to the ends.

  • i follow ur vids b/c i think we have similar hair. after paying $75 for a professional straightening that lasted a good 5 hours, i decided to straighten it yesterday at the dominican salon. i made a video of my results so you can see how diff it turned out using the blowout method. btw, i feel ur pain!

  • your walls are awesome

  • I have 4c hair as well. I just went to a salon to get my hair straightened. I didn't want to go through that so I did my research and found a great salon in ATL. I went and my hair looked like I had a relaxer...No Lie. That was almost 3 weeks ago. I am getting ready to wash it out now because I miss "my hair" and I miss caring for it. But yea I think you should go to the salon. It’s worth it if you need change! You seem so sad in this vid... don't like seeing you like this :( love your vids

  • thanks for your honest vlog...getting your sew in was the best middle ground cause u get the straight look without the damage

  • I have the SAME Issue.......

  • i know how you feel. my hair is 4c but with super small curls in some sectiom and it gets tangled so much! im 4 months nat and im frustrated with it. my shrinage is 100%! half of the youtube vids ive watched even with 4c doesnt have the shrinkage and single strand knots i get. im thinking about getting braids for the next few months

  • My bestfriend has hair like yours and i got his str8 bone str8. I didnt use allota heat either. U gotta use the right techniques

  • @litlkutie I agree. The key to getting 4a/b/c hair bone straight or "silky" is technique. I have thick kinky hair and it always comes out fabulous whenever I have a pro (stylist or my great aunt) straighten: blow out, hot combs or flat iron my hair. Go to someone who knows how to do it.

  • See, I know for a fact my hair wouldn't come out nice so I don't even attempt to heat straighten it. My hair was barely straight w/ a relaxer so....lol

  • Thanks for this video I been flirting with using an electric hot comb but the results vs. heat damage is not worth it.
