At 1:28 that is her coach, the wonderful Vladislav Rastorotsky, who also coached Ludmilia Tourischeva, Natalia Yurchenko and Albina Shishova to name a few:)
Thank you for posting this! I love all the Shapo footage I can find-she is one of my all time faves! It's not the Olympics (not her competition number is different from the Games) and not there are no Olympic flags, or emblems as required by the I.O.C.
I believe this was the 1979 Moscow Test Event, a competition that is held in the same arena that the Olympics is to be held in. So, in this case, Moscow. I'm not sure though.
Either way, Natalia performed a brilliant exercise that probably should have scored higher than it got.
This is not the 1980 Olympics. Shaposhnikova's competition number at the Moscow Games was # 70. Here it is # 11. This is quite possibly one of the invitationals leading up to the Moscow Olympics-or perhaps the USSR Cup.
Thanks for posting this. I have not seen this routine. Most of the footage of Shaposhnikova from 80 Olympics is the event finals routine. This one is slightly different. Would love to see more Shapo if you have it! Thanks again
This is not the Moscow Olympics-look at Shapo's competiton number - 11. Her competition number at the 1980 Games was 70. I prefer her choreo at Moscow. Much more sensual, and mature. :)
Wow--you're right. I didn't notice that her number was different. I was so suprised to see footage of her doing this routine other than the 80' Olympic Event finals. Almost all floor routines I have seen of Shapo are to "Toreador" from Carmen. I think I have only seen two done to this song. Wonder what competition this was from? Thanks again. Shaposhnikova is my all time favorite and I love seeing any footage of her.
You are welcome! I am a HUGE Shapo fan and I observed the fact that her choreo was totally different from EF (almost unheard of for a gymnast at such an event to change her choreo so much) but I also noticed her number was different-also the Olympic Rings would be all over the arena. Shapo is a young lady here with her hair pulled back like at the Games-this is probably a lead-up event into the Games. She wore her hair in pigtails when she younger and she was less developed.
Is that Mukhina sitting next to Shap at the very end, right before the cut to Davidova (you see her for a second when she leans forward)?

Yes. This was prior to her injury.

Sorry, 1980.

and although the choreography is not as good, this has FAR less mistakes then her EF 1980, and it got a worse score!

i'm so confused. same music, but the choreography here sucks. is this before or after the olympics?

Is this at the olympics? it appears to be, and yet has totally different choreography?

Wow-You are right!! Totally different choreo-I'll have to check her competition number to see if it's the same event.
