The Dave Smith Instruments Prophet '08 is a tabletop 'knobby' synth module with all of the features and controls of the Prophet '08 Keyboard (minus the keyboard, of course) in an even more compact enclosure. With real analog oscillators, famed Curtis low-pass filters, and analog ...

  • Thanks for this very informative video, Morgan. I stupidly sold my Prophet 5 v. 3.3 a few years ago, thinking that I'd never venture out of playing jazz, but here I am playing in some bands and writing music for which a Prophet would be a great addition, even centerpiece. So, I'm buying a Prophet 08 before summer and plan to experiment with it all summer long. Many thanks to you and others posting good info on Dave's new masterpiece(s).

  • Knob heaven

  • brilliant synth, shame about the pricetag ..

  • @francaisemusique What do you think is a more reasonable price for an 8 voice analog polysynth?

  • @Tibbon i will think of one, just to be awkard haha :L it is quite expensive, but tbf i am an unemployed 17 year old :L

  • @francaisemusique I totally understand that. We've all been there. But I've also realized in life that some things aren't overpriced, they just aren't things that you need to have at this point in your life. I know when I was 17 there was gear I couldn't afford, but that doesn't mean it was overpriced. I just wasn't making enough. I think what Dave has done here is make a very affordable synth, for a professional musician.

  • @Tibbon i guess so :) i agree, i will get one of these someday :)

  • David Guetta keeps disliking these videos.

  • parallel fifths are not allowed in traditional music composition

  • @VivacissimoMedia ok i have that but what cords do i need? MIDI cords?

  • how would i take my dads old prophet and connect it to my comuter via interface so i get the sounds from it into the progra? I use logic pro 9 btw

  • this is what i call skill!

  • I looked into the Prophet 08 as the only new one I might like and went to a local shop that DSI site said sells them. They didn't have any. I have sight problems and was worried I wouldn't be able to see the lcd screen and I couldn't tell without trying one. I ended up getting something else second hand and they lost my custom, probably for good as I only have room on the table for one synth! So DSI can show all these films but it is to no avail if we can't buy one!

  • @Laura041974 Yeah unfortunately DSI is usually behind on production from what ive seen, so when one of their products is in the store, someone will snatch it up quickly, another option is to ask a store to order one in, if you dont like it, dont buy it! someone else will im sure and the store will enjoy having it to display, i dont rly have much room myself here thats why im getting 61 key to compliment my full piano, once again i agree availability is somewhat rare but its because of popularity

  • morgan page is such a fage

  • whats the name of the synthesizer over the prophet 80 ?? thanks

  • @SWEDISHHOUSEABLETON Moog Voyager ( electric blue edition )

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, Is it over yet?

  • is there a track he did with these chords? 1:36

  • YIKES! That sucks.

We just bend over and let the advertisers stick it up out buts,

wether we like it or not

  • What's with the conservative ad before your video....is music becoming a format for conservatives advertising?

  • I HAVE TO SAY. THIS GUY IS VERY HOT... I DONT KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT BUT... HOTT!

  • 0:01 - start

  • in 3:50 i was wondering if the new Morpho has that very sound...:) just curious.thanks

  • @789truth

the voice structure is the same but this synth has 8 of them!... little bit on intermodulation will give you some other result!..... like subtract and add = D

mopho key rocks out!.. this beast is more pro piano player!

  • @luchomolinarixxx thank you

  • Dam his sounds are amazing!

  • sounds great, i imagine how it is mix with the virus sound.

  • It appears from the vid you have it poly chained to the TETRA right? Also what is that mini keyboard in front of the TETRA?

  • @animehair thats the akai lpk25

  • cia tai zveris, matyt mazai as jo noriu kad neperku

  • i have one.. almost sold it.. now i think im gonna keep it.. gotta get the pots though.. eh

  • @mindphlux Nah you should just go ahead and sell it. I'm a potential buyer

  • there should be at least 30min of footage on the DVD

  • now we're talkin'

  • You mean his talent has allowed him to afford these toys!?

  • @djtommystiles I'm just jealous!

  • @djtommystiles and his hard work and success

  • 1:45 yum yum :)

  • He's lucky to have money to blow on all the toys

  • @weaponEX yeah well if he's being interviewed by Future Music i'm sure he deserves his "toys"

  • @weaponEX Come on, a Prophet only costs 2 grand! You could save that from your job at McDonald's more than easily.

  • @schemedemon You work at McDonalds!

  • Look secondhand, I saw an ad for a Prophet 8 for £750. There's an Arts Council scheme called Take it Away which offers part loans for all kinds of instruments, new and secondhand and lessons. The bloke in OMD got his Korg micro preset from his Mum's Kays catalogue and paid in instalments, another 80s star worked in a Yoghurt factory to save up for a synth.

  • @Laura041974 I also worked in a yoghurt factory before exploring synthesis .. haha

  • @grousebeatertv I work in Sterile Services, cleaning bioburden off surgical instruments. Yogurt doesn't seem so bad now. I was wrong about the Prophet 5 prices. The recent ads were about £2,500. I saw an Elka Synthex for £5,000 when my book says £900! I like this synth best but it was much more than I'd pay. I tried to get one from and ad but think it was a con. I got a Kawai SX240 In March for £510 and I'm very pleased with the sound quality and am enjoying learning how to build sounds on it.

  • Love what he says about going through menus vs. digging straight into the hardware. Immediacy is clutch :)
