  • this game was one of the greatest i had it in 1994 and still play it today, if only they would remake this game with modern tech and added 4 player drop in/out coop, just putting it out there rebelion. great vid

  • I remember getting surrounded by 3 aliens in a vent, and nearly pissed myself!

  • Dang fine review. Informative & not at all bias. Some of the best footage I've came across of Iron Soldier & AvP

  • i wonder if hooomebrew game developers allready succeeded to push the atari jaguar to it,s limmit to maybe reach 3d graphics close to the n64?

sure the console lacked 3d support in hardware so it had to be all done in software but i onder powerfull the console really is.

  • the first 3 resident evil didnt have sound either which made me crap myself when a zombie came out of no where the remake one one was fucking scary as shit my freind karina hasa gamecube and we are going to be moving into a place in a while and thinking of getting the remake again

  • I know a thing about loving doomed consoles. I still love my Dreamcast. By the way, an excellent Jaguar game you forgot to mention(even if it's not your type of game) is Rayman.

  • Okay kind of a fair review but disingenuously optimistic. The system was pretty terrible. A handful of decent games can be found on ANY system, but the Jaguar well all the worst games ever lists I read are stuffed with it's games. denial is a river in Egypt. :P

  • @Gamergrrl1

It's fine if you think my review is too optimistic, but I thought I made it clear where I think the system stacks - better than some other comparable systems (32x, CD-I, 3DO, etc) but no where near the SNES/PSX etc. What comes across as disingenuous?

My opinion is an honestly earned one.

  • i have that game i beat the xeno campagain

  • i got a xbox only for Halo

  • This game used to scare the shit out of me

  • the fact that you can't say 'consoles' is quite irritating.

  • That Game Informer issue with the maps for Alien vs Predator seems essential. Does anyone know exactly what issue that is? I'd like to see if I can track it down.

  • Liked your review. It's one of the few honest and sincere reviews of the Jaguar. And from someone that was there for its release!

  • Ahhhhh nice review... I remember the Jag fondly... "the little cat that tried but couldn't quite make the big time." nice quote!

  • hello is this worth buying? i only have 50£ though but i could get one from ebay and buy aliens vs predtator

  • Great video, l getting a jaguar for christmas with 3 games.

  • lol doom kinda a big one :P then again it was ported to SNES

  • A fair Jaguar review. I love the Jaguar.

  • Awesome review, you gave the system an honest look unlike many of the other videos on youtube just hateing on the system beacause it failed, and unlike many of the other reviews this one was very intertaing. Again great job, im going to get on your channel right now to watch some more of your reviews.

  • good 3 part review overall and like you bought your jaguar for avp, im thinkin bout gettin a jaguar for avp also, and doom, wolfenstein, (which i both have my snes), and that brawl football game seem like theyre worth gettin too

  • Wow. Aliens Vs Predator sounds like Doom for the 32X.

  • Very fun to watch. Saw all three parts. Great job, very informative.

  • Hey, you go. I purchased a 3DO for $699 plus tax.

  • if u liked avp for the jag then u will love the new one that just came out

  • i loved this game, if only all jag games were around this quality we might be playing on atari systems today

  • i like your ending. very well put

  • Nice review. I remember playing this on my friends Jag back in the day. Truly terrifying.

Same with the newer AvPs on PC. Can't wait for the new one :)

  • exelent review very solid is fun to watch and informative at the same time really good

  • Jaguar > PS3

  • Nice video. I collect vintage game systems. I have a Atari 7800,SNES, Neo Geo Aes, Sega Dreamcast, Atari Lynx and a Neo Geo pocket color. I have been looking at getting either a Atari Jaguar or a 3DO which one would you recommend getting first.

  • That's a tossup. I'd say both have comparable numbers of worthwhile games, with the 3DO likely winning by a bit.

However, in terms of collecting, I find the Jaguar more interesting because of its continued development in the indie scene, the Atari connection, the use of cartridges instead of CDs, and it has the advantage of a single base system instead of like a dozen variants the 3DO has.

  • Thanks for the quick response. there were actually three systems I am looking at I forgot to mention the sega master system. I a now looking at either the Atari Jaguar or the Master System which on would recommend getting first out of the two.

  • Master System. It has a lot of great games, the Jaguar library just can't compete.

  • Thank you for the quick response. I found a sega Nomad at a local store for $80 including ac adopter looks like new.I was wondering do you consider that a far price. The reason I am looking at it is so I can play genesis games on the go and still have two players. Plus most genesis games are pretty cheap would you recommend getting it.

  • I already answered that question from you on the Nomad review.

  • @lartrak Especially as the SMS has no regional lockout. There were a large number of titles released for the SMS that were exclusive to Europe or Brazil.

    STAY AWESOME! :)

  • Jaguar

Jaguar has Rayman,Iron Soldier,Alien vs Predator, and Super Burnout

    3DO has nothing

but get a SEGA SATURN before bothering with either of those 2.

  • Thanks for the response I ended up getting a Sega Dreamcast instead.

  • the 3do has nothing rofl! has more good games than the jag

  • @Warriorcats64

The 3DO has a lot of good games, even more than the Jaguar. Examples are Wing Commander III, Need for Speed, Road Rash, Return Fire, Luciennes Quest, Panzer General, Street Fighter II Turob, Samurai Shodown, Policenauts, Alone in the Dark 1+2, Gex,...

    @Topic

Alien vs Predator is indeed excellent. A Triple A game for the Jaguar. Very good video, you should do more reviews. :)

  • Excellent review, lartrak. Leagues better than the other Jaguar "system reviews" on youtube. 10/10, two tumbs-up!

  • great review

  • attack of the mutant penguins is a game you didn't mention which is one of the very few on the Jag that I recommend people to play. A strange, but fun game.

  • that AVP game looks pretty awesome.

  • By the way, use a Pro Controller to play this game in the future. It uses the X and Z buttons to strafe. Much easier to handle

  • Yeah, I'd like to get one, it's fairly hard to find for a decent price though.

  • I got mine on eBay about a month ago for 15 bucks, well worth the price. Just keep looking, and if I see one I'll shoot you a link. The controller that I really want is the White one with blue buttons that was made for the Atari Falcon If I ever saw one of those I'd probably shell out 40 dollars for it.

  • I dont know why they say the jag sucks it looks awesome!

  • Why cant they make an Atari Jaguar Collection for PSP or something?

  • ya i want a atari jaguar so bad

  • I love the sounds the Aliens make. Also I love the way the predator lures you by saying "anytime". First time I heard that I almost jumped.

  • so its predator saying that

  • yup, also they can say "come....".

  • ya i thought it was the aliens and saying cahhhh and its time thats what it sounded like

  • GREAT review.. Awesome production. Very indepth and honest review on a less successful system. I'm now your new fan here.. :)

  • After seing this some month ago I got the idea to also make full gaming console reviews so check my youtube page to see full virtual boy and N64 review

As of now only 4 parts of N64 is up but still :)

  • AvP was the only game on the Jaguar i went back to when i had one, i am thinking of getting another one, great review.

  • the aliens are so cool

and yeah i hate mazes too, and i get lost everywhere also irl :D

    never had a jag tho

but like the review none the less

  • Funny, I found the Human campaign to be far more difficult than the alien one.

  • Yeah, you're probably right. I just never tried as hard to beat it as I did with the alien and predator campaigns (I don't think I ever managed to activate the self-destruct mechanism), so I never really got too far into it.

The alien duct navigation is a true nightmare without maps though.

  • Comment removed

  • does the jaguar use regional lockout?

  • No, but you need a PAL Jaguar for a PAL TV I believe, but I'm not entirely sure. I think only several games were actually released as PAL games. One of these is Raiden, because the American cart had some defect when being played on PAL TV's. That being said, there are no regional exclusive games, and no need for regional lockout.

  • Finally a possitive review on a good system,

But I'm still unimpressed with checkered flag, I must be the only one who likes checkered flag, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Other than that incredible review I want AvP and Iron soldier now.

  • Good review aspecialy you did a good job on the editing...

  • i have a jaguar and doom 3d i think is still he best game ever made!!!! its so cheesy its awsome!!!!!!!!!!

  • COOL

  • WAIT... You've had a Jag since 1994 and never got Tempest 2000 or Doom!? :o Or Rayman, Zool 2, Wolfenstein 3d!? ;) Very nice job on the review though.

  • Tempest 2000 I used to play at a friend's house. We must have been the only Jag owners in the state of Michigan - like me, he bought it for AvP. Wolf and Doom I had for PC - my dad was an engineer, and I remember being one of the few people at my school with a good enough PC to run those games when they were new. Things sure have changed.

But yeah, there's a number of titles I'm going to pick up for the Jag in the next year or so. Been getting back into console gaming lately.

  • Ah I see.. I had a couple friends with Jags here in California. The Jag is a cool system to collect for. I have all 44 cart games except Atari Karts. And a Jag CD with most games. The games are affordable if you buy them cart only..

  • Do you have any of the later titles? The ones released in the past 10 years by Songbird? They're crazy expensive. Like Battlesphere Gold, for example, is worth $200+ now.

  • Nope just 43 of the 44 originally released carts... However I have owned Protector: SE, Towers II, Iron Soldier 2, Atari Karts, Brett Hull Hockey, Painter & several homebrew type Jag CD games in the past. I had to sell those when I was low on cash... :( Battlesphere's price is just outrageous and I could never see myself buying it.

  • Oh god that reminds me i think the last official game was in 2005 or somthing for the CD jag - idk but thats a long life

  • Yeah that GORF, but actually a game called Frog Feast was released in 2007 for the Jag CD too

  • who makes these? ya know i cant say i can ever realy remember a section of a game store for the atari jaguar, so a better question would be Who sells these

  • Hi. Just for your info in AvP on the Jag while playing as the alien you use the option button to strafe instead of C.

  • Yeah, I actually remembered this after making the review. Even using option though, it's still very awkward to strafe and attack as the alien.

  • Hmmm... Thats not a bad idea actually. But I think it went on for about 40 minutes! LONG! But i'll see what i can do. I have a soft spot for Atari. All these new consoles.. No Arcade Credability.

  • Let me be the first person to say "Thank you for Giving the Atari Jaguar Justice." I got the Jag for Alien Vs. Predator & Even made a soundtrack for it (as i'm a musician!) & mixed the 2 channels together using a mixer! If you thought it was scary without music, think again! Ha Ha! I would Recomend Tempest 2000. It's such a cult now that I'm re-vamping my 2nd Track from it for a client! Yeh.. Really! Ask me if you haven't already got the cheat for this game. "You can Run but you can't hide!"

  • Ever think about uploading a sample of your AVP soundtrack? Sounds cool to me!

And yeah, I've been meaning to buy Tempest 2000 for quite a while. It's pretty common, and only worth about $10.
