I think it's pretty hard to get a seventeen year old male to cry, but Steven Spielberg had me crying like a baby in this last scene (worse in fact in the scene before where Haley himself is crying because he can't get his mommy back). Brilliant actor in this movie and The Sixth Sense. It's almost a shame he grew up. He was sooo cute back then.

This movie messed me up for a good while after seeing it. I cried for days and I don't even know why, to this day I still can't explain it. Several weeks after watching it my wife asked me about the movie and I broke into tears and didn't want to talk about it. I think the longing and love a young boy feels for his mother is unparalleled in life and watching the ending brought me right back to that place emotionally.

@themenaceanish I feel that this was the best ending that could have come from this movie. In the entire movie, David just wants to be loved. Nothing more, nothing less. To make him die in the end would just make watching the movie a waste of time. What could he have died from, anyways? Nothing would tie into the story smooth enough. I feel that the ending is more moving the way it is compared to the way you want it.

Despite all the eyes, flesh etc. beyond the lifelike surface of David he is just a machine that has been programmed. This movie fooled a lot of people in investing emotions into a machine who couldn't actually love ROFL!

Like you said, it is like the story of Pinocchio. How can you hate it, when its so touching. Many good movies are misunderstood. This movie is one that Spielberg did not come up with on his own. Its actually a Stanley Kubrick movie. Be wanted to do it cause it was one that they had talked about doing, but never got too. Kubrick died before they could start the project.

I liked A.I. quite a bit but there were too many parts of the film did not seem well thought out or just didn't make any sense and the science behind it was highly questionable. Examples: David being under water, then later frozen, for that length of time without any damage, or having a strand of hair and not being abled to fully bring someone back without any limitations, or, most of all, david's mother abandoning him. Wish they'd reboot this movie but with a better plot.
