I think it's pretty hard to get a seventeen year old male to cry, but Steven Spielberg had me crying like a baby in this last scene (worse in fact in the scene before where Haley himself is crying because he can't get his mommy back). Brilliant actor in this movie and The Sixth Sense. It's almost a shame he grew up. He was sooo cute back then.
@guitarmasta1795 I know, he used to be the cutes kid actor ever when he was younger. Plus, he touched everyone in all the movies he played in. When he grew up I don't know what happened, but he looks a bit weird now. It's like he keep the little kid face and have a man body. In SOME of his photos his head is too big for his face. I wished he could stay that little kid forever and continue acting. But I like him playing the voice actor of Sora in Kingdom Hearts thou.
This flick is everything the commenters say it is. Oedipal, yet chaste. Disturbing and depressing, yet hopeful. Angsty, endearing, and poignant. Humanity has destroyed itself through its own devices and foolishness. And humanity’s only enduring legacy is not a Matrix-like paradigm, or a sterile robotic society ill-disposed to carbon-based life, but only this gentle race of creatures who revere us, and lovingly preserve the traces of things we left behind.
The last seven minutes plus were edited into John Williams score. Spielberg loved it so much..he didn't want to cut the music. IT like E.T. ran long. So Spielberg and Khan edited the film into the score. THAT is the power of John Williams.
This movie messed me up for a good while after seeing it. I cried for days and I don't even know why, to this day I still can't explain it. Several weeks after watching it my wife asked me about the movie and I broke into tears and didn't want to talk about it. I think the longing and love a young boy feels for his mother is unparalleled in life and watching the ending brought me right back to that place emotionally.
I LOVE this movie soooo much I don't see why anyone could hate it! The ending was the best part though, and this movie is VERY symbolic! :) love it, love it, love it! -3

This is one of the shittiest most boring movies ever. It's certainly Spielberg'sworst movie and should never be compared to his proper classics such as Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, ET and Jurassic Park.
@themenaceanish I feel that this was the best ending that could have come from this movie. In the entire movie, David just wants to be loved. Nothing more, nothing less. To make him die in the end would just make watching the movie a waste of time. What could he have died from, anyways? Nothing would tie into the story smooth enough. I feel that the ending is more moving the way it is compared to the way you want it.
@derekd234 He didn't want to be anything. He was a machine, a very advance machine that fooled all of you into thinking that David just might have real feelings XD Read Roger Ebert's review, he hits the nail on its head.
Despite all the eyes, flesh etc. beyond the lifelike surface of David he is just a machine that has been programmed. This movie fooled a lot of people in investing emotions into a machine who couldn't actually love ROFL!
@themenaceanish You are completely obsessed with criticizing this film, well I've got news for you this is the internet ;no one cares about your opinion
@themenaceanish I disagree with you sir you have not made one point and this to me is not boring nor bad but intriguing and a masterpiece. Don't watch this movie with thinking for it to be realistic this is as much of a fairy tail as Pinocchio. Thank you for being completely honest it fuels more anger to get through the day
@MegaJabboy I know, one of my family memebers said this was an okay movie but was boring. I couldnt believe what I was hearing. This movie is so magical. Like you said, it is like the story of Pinocchio. How can you hate it, when its so touching. Just because there is not alot of shooting and explosions, and sex scenes throughout the whole movie doesnt mean its boring. People need to enjoyed it for what its and not compare it to something its not.Thats the only way they can truely apriciate it.
@MegaJabboy Plus, he is so dumb. He calls this movie boring, but then he likes ET. Aren't they both similar touching movies? I never seen ET, so I'm taking a wild guess by what I know of it. He really just probally don't like this movie out of the ones he listed, because it was the one that made him cry.
I lost my mom when I was the age of David and so when I first saw this I cried my eyes out. I wish I could have my mom for one more day or even an hour or two. What a great movie this is.
This move was so grossly under-rated. The final scene is one you never forget. I too wish I had one last day with my Mom. I miss her. And as for Teddy...he is your pet dog who can feel your despair and your happiness. He will be at your side until the end. And with David he was.
6:58 I have always loved you. That was the ever lasting moment he had ever been waiting for... and for the first time in his life, he went to that place, where dreams are born.
Many good movies are misunderstood. This movie is one that Spielberg did not come up with on his own. Its actually a Stanley Kubrick movie. Be wanted to do it cause it was one that they had talked about doing, but never got too. Kubrick died before they could start the project.

I dont understand the ending, do they mean David went sleep forever? And how can he's home exist when it's 2000 years later? But anyway, its will always be my favorite movie because of the meaning of this move.
The evolved Meccas can read information by just a single touch (When they looked into David's memory). So, by looking into David's mind they found that all he wanted was to become a real boy and win his mother's love. They took David's sample of hair from his mother, his memory of her, her home, and everything in it, to make a realistic model of what he wanted in his head. So they gave him to his dreamworld, to stay for all Eternity with his mommy.
Yea I appreciated the writers charm. This movie definitely has a message in it. I'm assuming he never woke up! If did what would the ailiems do with him? Buy it was fate! That he saw his moms one last time. Mainly because he was a good robot caught in a bad place n time.
Last man standing is the BEAR -- just like Grizzly Man predicted. When one of us is gone and one of us is left to carry on, that's a line from You And Me Against The World.
@nicola1984patriots 2000 years later humans are extinct and Manhattan is buried under several hundred feet of sea ice. Mechas have evolved into a highly advanced alien-looking humanoid form. David spends the happiest day of his life with Monica and Teddy and Monica tells David that she loves him and has always loved him as she drifts to sleep for the final time. David lies down next to her, closes his eyes and goes to that place where dreams are born. Which is Earth. So I guess so!
David tells Joe he saw the Blue Fairy underwater, and wants to go down to her. Joe is captured by the authorities with the use of an electromagnet. David and Teddy take the amphibicopter to the fairy, which turns out to be a statue. Teddy and David become trapped when the Wonder Wheel falls on their vehicle. Believing the Blue Fairy to be real, David asks to be turned into a real boy, repeating his wish without end, until the ocean freezes and his internal power source drains away.

This movie is for faggots. Independance Day was soooo much better than this trash. It's a shame Spielberg came up with this garbage. He needs to go back making proper movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark, ET, Jaws and Jurassic Park.
@themenaceanish And independence Day is for assholes who can't appreciate true movie genius. What the HELL is so great about a stupid ass movie where the highlight is watching the White House blow up?! That's the ONLY part of that shit i remember, it's SO forgetable. THIS movie lasts forever! Jaws + Jurassic Park = movies where animals attack humans. Again, not impressive. Go watch the dumb aliens blow shit up. As if that's not in a thousand OTHER movies. Jerk off.
@ThePaganSun Independance Day is a classic movie you dumbass. People still remember classics like Jurassic Park, ET, Independance Day, Jaws etc. Who remembers this trash? LOL! Independance Day made way more cash at the box office than AI. Shame haha!
@themenaceanish THIS is a classic movie too, asshole! Titanic, The Godfather, Goonies, etc. are classic movies! Your dumbass movie is for thick-headed cliche lovers! I forgot THAT stupid movie rather than this golden film! Go watch the White House blow up! Pfft! Titanic made more money than ID too! If you judge a movie only for its profit ratings, you're an even bigger dumbass! Maybe THAT's why you can't appreciate better movies that don't have guns or boobs and lose your last brain cell, idiot!
@ThePaganSun This is NOT a classic movie. AI just about has a 7.0 rating on IMDB lmfao! Independance Day, ET and Men In Black are much better alien/sci-fi movies.
@themenaceanish Stop being jealous that people still remember THIS awesome movie compared to your dumbshit, totally cliche, piece of shit, "Let's Kill All Humans" trash movie! Go watch things go boom for all I care like all the other hetero asses and little stupid boys! I'll laugh as your few brain cells die watching that garbage! This film lives forever. Get over it!
@MustNotRead A 3 yr old can make a better alien movie than Independence Day! Like I said, what the hell is so great about a dumb movie where the only thing people remember is watching the White House blow up?! That film was about a 5.0 for originality. Seriously, it wasn't the first "let's blow things up" alien movie and it won't be the last. What a WASTE! So shut the fuck up and STOP calling people" fags." Now go watch your shitty little "things go boom" movie you little boy hetero fuck!
@faffibo When I was a little kid I thought the same thing and I just lost it! I've never cried because of a movie but this one moved something within me.
"..and for the first time in his life he went to that place where dreams are born." That line has stayed with me eversince I first saw this movie. Magical and hauntingly beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Can someone please tell me what the background music is starting at 7:35? God bless may whomever can help me out and tell me where that classical music is from. Thank you very much.
This is the saddest ending of a movie I have ever seen..... Even though people die and people are born. This A.I. is not human, so he cannot die. But he is given a fake scenery to which he's waited his whole creation to placed in with his "mother". Only spending a day with her..... Knowing this would be the last moments he would ever spend with her.... But he got the moment/moments he always hoped and dreamed of.....Man its just tremendously sad....
i still rember this scene i was 5 when i first saw it and didnt really understand but i loved the movie(because of the teddy bear) now years later im older and understand better this movie makes cry like i never did before now the tedy bear isnt the only reason why i love this movie
Go read Roger Ebert's new interpretation of this ending he just posted...made me actually like the film more (which I never did like the ending before I read that...I always wanted it to end with David under water, trapped before the Blue Fairy)
u must read this. once u have started there is no turning back. a little 10 year old girl was raped and murderded in 1945. her body was not found until 1947. then a boy last week read this and did not copy and paste this message. the dead girl appeared in his room haunting him and killed him. if you do not copy and paste this onto 10 vidoes in 30 minutes the dead girl will apear in your room tonight and haunt you and kill you. well you better start to copy and paste to be saved
I liked A.I. quite a bit but there were too many parts of the film did not seem well thought out or just didn't make any sense and the science behind it was highly questionable. Examples: David being under water, then later frozen, for that length of time without any damage, or having a strand of hair and not being abled to fully bring someone back without any limitations, or, most of all, david's mother abandoning him. Wish they'd reboot this movie but with a better plot.
@Greed4Speed There are some confusing issues in the plot, but think of it as a retelling of 'Pinocchio' with the premise of an 'artificial' life form aspiring to be human. In that sense it's fairly clear. It's still a great and hugely underrated film. And a huge tragedy that Kubrick never got to finish the film himself.

This movie is for faggots. Independance Day was soooo much better than this trash. It's a shame Spielberg came up with this garbage. He needs to go back making proper movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark, ET, Jaws and Jurassic Park.
themenaceanish 5 months ago
@themenaceanish And independence Day is for assholes who can't appreciate true movie genius. What the HELL is so great about a stupid ass movie where the highlight is watching the White House blow up?! That's the ONLY part of that shit i remember, it's SO forgetable. THIS movie lasts forever! Jaws + Jurassic Park = movies where animals attack humans. Again, not impressive. Go watch the dumb aliens blow shit up. As if that's not in a thousand OTHER movies. Jerk off.
ThePaganSun 5 months ago 3
@ThePaganSun Independance Day is a classic movie you dumbass. People still remember classics like Jurassic Park, ET, Independance Day, Jaws etc. Who remembers this trash? LOL! Independance Day made way more cash at the box office than AI. Shame haha!
themenaceanish 5 months ago
@themenaceanish THIS is a classic movie too, asshole! Titanic, The Godfather, Goonies, etc. are classic movies! Your dumbass movie is for thick-headed cliche lovers! I forgot THAT stupid movie rather than this golden film! Go watch the White House blow up! Pfft! Titanic made more money than ID too! If you judge a movie only for its profit ratings, you're an even bigger dumbass! Maybe THAT's why you can't appreciate better movies that don't have guns or boobs and lose your last brain cell, idiot!
ThePaganSun 5 months ago
@ThePaganSun This is NOT a classic movie. AI just about has a 7.0 rating on IMDB lmfao! Independance Day, ET and Men In Black are much better alien/sci-fi movies.
themenaceanish 5 months ago
@themenaceanish Stop being jealous that people still remember THIS awesome movie compared to your dumbshit, totally cliche, piece of shit, "Let's Kill All Humans" trash movie! Go watch things go boom for all I care like all the other hetero asses and little stupid boys! I'll laugh as your few brain cells die watching that garbage! This film lives forever. Get over it!

this film is for fags and little girls. real men would watch Independance Day its much a better film with good CGI you FAG!!
MustNotRead 5 months ago
@MustNotRead A 3 yr old can make a better alien movie than Independence Day! Like I said, what the hell is so great about a dumb movie where the only thing people remember is watching the White House blow up?! That film was about a 5.0 for originality. Seriously, it wasn't the first "let's blow things up" alien movie and it won't be the last. What a WASTE! So shut the fuck up and STOP calling people" fags." Now go watch your shitty little "things go boom" movie you little boy hetero fuck!

FractalBolt 7 months ago
The reason it "gets" some people
Is simple. Your mother's love for you is a basic emotional building block. Its down
right Freudian. If that's missing, you end up
Looking for it all your life in other ways. In some cases, it actually makes you
Better. You compensate for that deficit by excelling in all the ways you think your mother would approve.

Greed4Speed 7 months ago
@Greed4Speed There are some confusing issues in the plot, but think of it as a retelling of 'Pinocchio' with the premise of an 'artificial' life form aspiring to be human. In that sense it's fairly clear. It's still a great and hugely underrated film. And a huge tragedy that Kubrick never got to finish the film himself.
