  • The Tenori-on can actually be used to create seriously beautiful music:

Search:" False Positive - After All" - an incredible song with the Tenorion

  • sleep sleep sleep deep sleep

  • so -

yamaha steals the idea of monome, built a crappy plastic device with bright leds, and dos it sell for a incredible high price...... :D

    sorry, but that's not cool!

  • OMG! whats that??? aliens are here!!!!

  • i kind of like the device..it's not available in India.! sir how much that would cost today in US or India wherever it may be? in Rupees or dollars? just to plan the budget .. :)

  • мудренная хреновина

  • like 12-tone row music composition...

  • FAIL!!! Wannabe kaossilator hah! That's so stupid!

  • Totally agree this video is a sneak peak at what this thing can potentially do. I can imagine this really kicking of for all types of artist that like to combine visuals in there live performes e.g. chemical brothers, orbital...etc.

This would look amazing at a festival being able to actually see what they are playing.

What a fucking idiot that interviewer was too... obviously just did'nt get it?

  • hey i didnt know Arnold Swarchenegger have a liking for these midi gadgets.. lol

  • its look like a child toy:P

  • more in the video EXCLUIDODIGITAL !

  • how do you know what each button does what?

  • This "toy" is used by Bjork and many other great artists, it's evolution, this magic device is a treasure for people who make electronic music. Give a look also to the Reactable! It's awesome!!

  • nice toy:D

  • at 10, along with the giga pet, I would have smashed this to bits, just like now. Boop-it lasted a little bit. This would be really good for depressed people though and help them focus instead of fray with "happy." Unfortunately, it's going to make it so that you have to do something every second of the day or you don't have a purpose. Your purpose is tenori and tangrams then you can delve even further into the secrets of 1 in a void of vomit posing as stars and light.

  • elevator music <)

  • just a toy(

  • Well, it is neat.

A touch grid like electronic device.

I agree, too much money, looks like a toy, more loop-based music.

    But look at it.

    Looks fun to me.

  • I agree... loop based music, c'mon... we've had enough of that... just an expensive toy for people with little musical background....definately not worth the money...

  • Yea great... :-( More loop based music.. Exactly what the world needs now.

  • it looks like a toy more than a musical instrument

  • this thing is awesome, hands down. dont get me wrong.

    but really $1,000?

i could buy a workstation with that kind of money. or even a small monome and a KP3.

  • this is portable ppl..... kaossilator isnt.

  • Obviously you've never handled a kaossilator... it runs on 4 AA batteries...

  • lol yeah youre right ive never handled a kaossilator. it haves built in speakers??

  • No, but it HAS a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Portability is defined by the portability of power, apparently you think having speakers makes something portable, this means that my entire home studio is portable. despite the fact it runs of standard 120v AC mains but that doesnt matter because as long as I still have the speakers its portable... pichka...

  • dude i was just asking. i dont know a little about the kaossilator. but this is deff easier to use. looks more portable. kaossilamaslnksalkd looks like my freaking multi efect pedal lol.

  • sorry bro too many hostile people on here anymore can never tell if someone is starting shit or just making conversation, my apologies. You should check out the novation launchpad if you think this is cool i just bought one theyre a lot more affordable than this.

  • no problem man ;) its a common problem. this really costs 800 bucks? and i checked that launchpad u said and its awesome. looks more professonal too.

  • it deff isnt easier trust me and it does less.

  • How isn't the kaossilator portable? Oh wait, you're just another ignorant idiot sharing your stupid around the internet. No thanks!

  • so u noticed that im an ignorant and an idiot, AND decided to write it down, and submit it into the internet..... now THAT IS smart, oh and somebody else cleared that point of the kaossilator being portable, there is no need to be offensive man.

  • that weird tone gave me headache

  • kaossilator for ever :)

  • I would just get high and play this for probably 10 hours straight, the combination of amazing music and the lights would be the most whimsical thing ever!!!!!!! haha wow my vocabulary

  • i got high and watched this video for like 45mins. ide waste my life and make incomprehensible beats if i got this.

  • I GOT A KAOSILLTOR CHEAP.. LIKE $50.... for that money.. its a fun toy. but not over a grand for a peice of plastic sorry

  • 'Its just spinning in time. Nothing else does that"

    Yeah? On what freaking planet?

  • you mean for $1200 I could buy one of these? Headache included? Its neat, not really my thing. I bet some people can make music that isnt bad on it.

  • not worth it

  • get a kaossilator

  • It is still more fun than watching American Idull.

  • yes seen a demo in a shop in manchester....looks nice....but aint that good ...a month and i would prob sell it....korg kaossilator is the best little gizmo on the market ....that s my view on it

  • ...and the kp3 :]

  • Comment removed

  • Very Enoish.

Very powerful in the right hands, will still sound rich in the wrong hands.

Now to run this TR step style.

  • i havent heard anything impressive from the tenori-on

    watch?v=3-7tnOra_40

  • i havent heard anything impressive from the tenori-on yet its always just annoying childrens tv type beeps, its like being stuck in a gameboy, there i said it,do youre worst

  • you also think so about little boots? She makes her songs with the tenorion. Look for stuck on repeat by little boots

  • I agree - it's the digital equivalent of someone running their fingernails down a blackboard - but you should see what 'Little Boots' can do with one, truly amazing! She played with one on Later with Jules Holland, with a Stylophone in one hand and a Grand Piano in the other! Just search on here for 'Little Boots Later'.

  • I'd use it as a creative midi controller, not as an actual instrument

  • yeah, totally agree.

  • I like the way you have to program the tune in as you go along, adding notes and taking them away as it plays. I use this technique in my own music.

  • hey you! can you give your toy to me???

    thx!

  • extremely good product.

ridiculously overpriced. i would rather have a clavinova

  • for good sake CHANGE THE FUCKING TUNE!!! I'm 7 minutes into this video and i'm going mad!

  • lol i know i had to X out toooo annoying

  • I made 3:53 and I thought I felt abit nauseous and felt like I had amigraine coming on.

I've never had a migraine in my life.

    bip bap bop

    bip bap bop

    bip bap bop

  • 7 min? its 1:50 for me and im al ready pissed off...

  • I am waiting for the one with multi colors, and allot more effects then this.. This is nothing compared to what it can be for $1.200 bucks!!!!.. Just looking at it I got 1898098098 ideas I my self could add to it alone... The guy with the system gets all nerves when he talks about "will it have more thing maybe to come on it?. Because he wants to just sell this idea, lol.. I say wait all, or you will be ripped off!

Seek and ye shall find, "people waiting for something much better".

    It's EZ..

  • i want it

  • it cost over 1000 dollars

  • well, there goes the fun of even having one. haha

  • is this not really boring no???

  • Amazing thing XD

  • How much does this gadget cost? what is the origin?

  • about 800 euro, dunno how much dollar that is...

  • wow you can waste all your money on what looks like a newer edition of the game "LIGHTS OUT" ha ha what a load of crap

  • It doesn't come with a table then ? :)

  • that sounds so horrible!!! kaossilator is ok but this is nasty!

  • what is it good for?

  • i wish i could afford this

  • There is one for sale on ebay item number 220239975069 im bidding for this bad boy

  • what did it end up selling for?? I just looked and found nothing... :S

  • that's amazing!

  • LOL how old are you?

  • What you lack, sir, is the imagination to see the possibilities of this thing. I've been told that it *is* rather limited, but this video definitely doesn't show the full combined potential.

  • he doesnt lack imagination, but he does lack a brain

  • @nazgjunk just watch the musician "Little Boots". She's from England and uses this a lot. From what i've seen her doing, it doesn't seem to have many limits. However, this should only be in the hand of someone creative, otherwise it will fail like this video does.

  • your and idiot.. you obviously havent seen some of the really impressive videos showing off what it can do.. This guy wasn't even trying to really do anything with it.. just showing the different modes and talking about it.

  • A lot of these videos make me think that this product is limited to a very certain type of sound. I don't know why that is. It has some sampling capabilities, why not make some nice grooves instead of the same sine waves and beeps?

  • Great Demo, THX!

  • that is just a genius thing!!!!

    ' instruments ' of the 21th century

  • amazing!I'd trade my car as well :)

  • ...I could trade in my car...

  • ahhhhhhhhhh if you had one the size of a wall in your house, run conway's game of life on it! :) this makes me happy

  • it looks great but its just a very expensive toy, not more! you can get much better things for this money.

  • Can it be synced by external midi clock? Or have it something like tap tempo?

  • Yes - it syncs to, and also can also receive, external clock

  • Wow. Imagine in five or ten years, playing with a three dimensional version!

  • That would be intense!

  • I want to have one too!

  • Where are they demoing this? Just standing around in a hallway somewhere?

  • it was back stage at Phonica, London, before the main launch on Sept 4th 07

  • don't give a shit what anybody thinks,

    I'm getting one tomorrow.

  • its £600 atm

i dont think its worth it now

    but it will be

the guy whos showing it is a douche

he changes the subjects on its weak points

  • i would buy one if i went on alot of car trips or plane trips or something. keep me entertained for hours. but then again thats not hard to do. :P

  • I like this.

They are bound to make more of these, it may be currently limited to 500 but when they realise how popular it is they will make thousands, I'd buy one for £300 max. I'd like to hook 2 of these up to a Korg Kaoss pad & some external midi synths. The beeps are a bit tedious.

  • its a limited edidtion (500) and only sold in the uk so am afraid there will be no later models. played with one they had on display in rubadub yesterday, so much fun for making music

  • they are limited, but not completely, it's a trial run, but i think they'll go down a treat... i certainly want one! £300 maximum's fair, about the price of a decent yamaha keyboard...

  • I'd buy it for $40.

  • Its Amazing! Buy It =D

Hmm Tht Man Looks Familiar =P

  • pick mine up at the weekend. cannot wait for my 8 hour flight to the USA to learn it. When loaded with cool samples it sounds awesome. I've been waitinng for an instrument like this all my life !!!!

  • you can actually buy this?

  • Would be interested to see some video showing how you get on with this, if they release more and drop the price £200 I will definately be getting one!

  • I think it'd be great to take on a plane or long car trip. Much too expensive now though.

  • if u built a software for u comp.. this aint shit.... but its nice cause its ease to use.. i will buy will definetely get one.. or a later model... not looking at it now.. they are sold out.. and only in uk.. and u know it will be hell to make sure everything is perfect for it in america.. so by then.. we could have newer model.. and price drops.. who knows..

  • I just thought I would let everyone know what the price is since I know I had a hard enough time finding it myself. Yamaha's UK store doesn't list it as of right now because they are out of stock, but I found it on a distributor's website ('Black Market' in London) for 600 British Pounds (roughly $1200). Good luck getting it over here though (assuming you're in the US).

  • window dressing or not, as hardware step sequencers go - this one is real pretty.

I for one love anything gimmicky like this, and personally I see great potential for parties, live electro performances and fun.

For those interested in the software side of things, try the monome - I'm pretty sure that the monome project is open source. Neato!

  • For babies or not, I think it's great. Not unseen, but it's fun anyway.

  • Can you download the software that runs on this thing?

It'd still be fun even without the touch interface.

  • Looks fun to me.. but i don't understand it

  • who would the audience/consumer be?

I think the babies will like it^-^

  • product of the future =]

every small child should be given one of these.

  • I so want one!

  • Nice... I'm intrigued.

It's WAY over the head of the Fox News, county music, NASCAR crowd... they will hate it.

  • Actually, more like above the heads of the Al Gore, CNN, Phish crowd

  • That's awfully assumptuous, but mostly true.

  • i think these videos just don't quite show all of the temori-on's potential. Remember, the videos so far are just demonstrations, and mostly by the same guy. Different artists will be able to manipulate it differently.

  • Product of the future? try product of the past - Garage band, Music Maker, iPlankton - looped music, very limited. It's a gadget to fiddle around with, not make music. They've put an bright-looking, expensive user interface on it, sure - which is why it's like $1200 or more - but it's just window dressing - everything here has been done before...

  • nice iCandy design.

  • This thing drop bombs,.. Livewire- :P

  • this is the coolest musical device ive ever seen, product of the future.

  • Ive seen about 4 vids on this particular "instrument"... id hate to say it but it seems kinda childish, like a sampling "etch n sketch". on the 4 vids i watched, the sounds were very similar and very annoying. I just dont see this being a common studio/production device... could be wrong though...

  • That would be fun for about 15 minutes :-D

  • sound like a casino, i hate casinos!

  • it doesnt even really sound that great. it just makes bleeps and bloops. im sure kraftwerk would wet themselves over this... other than that i dont see a real purpose

  • I don't think you really understand what's going on here; this is essentially the technological birth of a new instrument. Granted it may no look very complex at first glance, but with loop technology the limits are boundless. Simplistic beauty my friend.

  • I think you're right!

  • What the hell is Tenori?

  • the adjoining text has links to where you can find launch details and a review, including pricing (599 UK pounds) and product specifications.

  • it's so confusing!

  • Does anyone know how much this thing costs?

  • and for like 1200$ you get alot more, I mean buy Reason, buy a midikeyboard and maybe one software synth you really like and then make real music. This is ridiculous, there will be a bunch of these silvery things on garage sales in a couple of years. People that didn't even know why they bought it, they got hypnotized by the lights or something.

  • i agree entirely

  • I like it, great!

  • interesting concept, The clairvoyant side of me foresees many more musical geniuses. The Practical side of me sees a lot of dumb kids making a lot of noise with this. Overall this is vastly better than another pokemon or tatchkoma fad.

  • Lol, I want to see what a baby could create with this, on accident.

  • LOL

  • It's by accident, not on accident.

  • I've written a detailed review article including price and launch details. You can find the address in the notes of this video description. They don't allow me to post URLs in text comments here.

  • If you actually go to Yamaha's site.. the sound is quite clear. And this type of toy is revolutionary. To create music so vast on such a single thing requires a lot of comprehension and cognitive thought. It may sound.. too electronic, but give it time. It could essentially replace a lot of Techno varieties.

  • hey were can you get one of those?

  • completly agree with 1nazchan, it looks cool, but it s not bringing anything usefull for musician, apart from being a randomizer.

Make an album with that and listen to it without the little lights....what u got ?

    not much.

Believe me, i ve been around midi controller since 1985. This is bling bling, nothing more

  • my question is how do you find a specific note or sound,

and will it always be in the same spot?

  • i wonder where you can get one? C'mon guys, I know it's kinda dumb...but tell me you wouldn't play with this thing? hee hee

  • Tenori-On is pretty far from dumb - it's an incredibly revolutionary musical instrument.

  • Are you kidding? Revolutionary? AS IF. It's cool, thats' about it

  • Revolutionary if haven't heard serious electronic composition during the last 80 years or so.

  • I don't think the technology is dumb at all, quite amazing actually. But it would be dumb for somebody like me who isn't a musician to buy one and play with it then have it sit around the house. Even for musicians, it's just kind of a fancy keyboard that looks a heck of a lot harder to learn. I guess it all depends on the price, but I can't seem to find anything about that on the web. I was more amazed by the iphone! (but I still don't have one of those either) :(

  • WHOA! Comment withdrawn.. Damn.

  • nice

  • even a yamaha bod cant produce a decent sound on this toy. my sympathy goes out to everyone that has purchased this

  • Well, if Volodos presented a new piano by Yamaha, and he showed the full capabilities of the piano as an instrument in a few shows, do you honestly think that people would expect to play like Volodos just by buying that piano?

Tenori-on is an *instrument* not a *game*, don't forget that.

  • I can see one of these sitting under the Christmas tree....and sitting...and sitting....and

  • bleep bloop tick tick tick wow

  • 00:30 - It's Max Beesley!!!

  • i wanna get one and beocme a rapper hahaha

  • wtf.......I'm dizzy

  • I wonder if you can feed it just like a tamagotchi. too. What a hyped shit, haha...

  • Novelty value is high, but 600£ is a bit unreal (based on the few videos ive seen so far)

But as the guy in the video says..AMAZING Bouce mode, wow !! ZZzz - try closing your eyes and listen to it..Still want it ? im still trying to figure out why this is aimed towards Djs

  • The price is indeed over hyped (as the thing is a little bit), but the creative possibilities of that little pad are really great. Also a major plus is that you can feed it on batteries, thus mobility value rises also.

  • Heck CAN POSSIBLY somebody TRY to play something like a melody on that goddamn thing? At least TRY!!!!

  • agreed 7777, novelty value 10, practicality as an instrument you dont get bored with in 2 minutes -zero,,,does anyone know how much these things are selling for, I dont think I'd pay more than I would for a kaoss pad 3

  • this is neat-o.....
