Bulimics in many countries can also get help through a free self-help (addicts helping addicts) group called overeaters anonymous. Look it up on the web for more info. It helps bulimics, anorexics, binge eaters, anyone with a problem with food, men and women.
I hate when I eat a lot and I become a completely different person and decide to throw it up, I always say "One last time.. this is truly the LAST TIME!" and then I find myself doing it over and over again. I've done it like 4 times this week. I believe I can stop though..
I am an anorexic and bulimic girl, and have been for 4 years. I have been admitted to hospital a lot and one of my best friends there is male.
It is a sad thing that the media has creates such a gender role for eating disorder sufferers and that they stereotype causes such as models, celebrities and commercials, when in reality it is a manifestation of self-loathing, anxiety and depression.Thank you for reaching out and having the courage to tell us your story. Stay strong.
@MCGEE1115 I dont understand that either, i agree with you, many men and older adults struggle with eating disorders including myself, if a young person doesnt get help if they have an ED, they only become an older adult with it and it only gets worse and more aggressive as the years go on.
i am a male bulemic for nearly a year, well more of a boy bulemic i started testing at 14 got hooked at 15 then got help at nearly 16 after throwing up every little thing i ate from coffe to chinese buffets anything with calories came up only diet coke digested,it is a rough disease it controls you,you dont control it well while you have it ive been recovery for a half a year and have many relapses every single day.hang in there.if you have it seek help.
I'm a relapsing 21 year old male bulimic. I've suffered ear infections, severe neck pain, severe throat pain, and my last scare cost me about 500$ in medical bills. I'm relapsing now, after successfully stopping for about 6 weeks, and plan on seeing a psychiatrist next week. Don't know what actually cures bulimia.
Maybe nothing really cures it, which is why this guy is 55 years old and still fighting it. His success is that he remains positive and he keeps on keeping on. It's kind of like with depression or most mental disorders - it's never gone, but you find ways to cope and keep it at bay.
Coming from a bulimic, with so many relapses under the belt, I can only say: Hang in there.
the will to quit. whatever happens it's you who has to decide if you really want to stop and if it's worth it to you. weigh the differances of would it be worth it to quit and ask yourself if thats what you want. after that you know what you have to do and you do it
Hey, same here. I think I feel more comfortable talking about it on youtube rather than with ppl I know I guess. At first I beat myself up because bulimia was a "girl" thing, but I gradually shook it off, knowing there are other ppl like me..I guess =/.
I only wish there were more video's focusing on male bulimia because it's definately not a "girl" thing...
Many thanks; but I hope you don't mind me asking - I know A&E are available, but when I'm in the state where I feel suicidal, I couldn't go there; I tend to have a snooze in the bath and hope I drown; but never can I remind myself that things can be better. Also, the samaritans can't help with my problems; I feel like I'm going to make a real mess of my life if I don't get help - to a large extent, I already have...
Get this from a male sufferer. Binging/purging almost daily for 3 years, yet GP was vacilating, suspicious and guarded, reluctant to see bulimia as central issue. Been despirate for help, chasing GP, writing to MP, calling PALS for nearly a year. I've finally made it - to a waiting list, that is. During this time, I've gradually lost the capacity to study, to look after myself, become suicidal. Been caught shoplifting food; thought it might give me access to the help I need but no. Life; dstryd
Thank you so much for sharing this. In the light on all of the people poking fun at John Prescott for his confession we really need men to come out and say 'no - listen - this IS a problem that effects men too.'
I think you are so brave and I admire you so much.

I'm a 19 year old black male....
if you saw me you would never have a clue that i do what i do.
this is two strikes against me.
1: I;m a guy
2: ...... when you have ever seen a black guy be bulimic?
but i'm happy to see i'm not the only one..
because in some sense this could question my manhood?? .... seems like a girl thing to people
yet youtube seems like the only place i can talk about it with people
since no one can see who i really am i guess

If you are in need of urgent help please follow the guidelines below:
1. Contact your GP, counsellor, a trusted family member or friend as soon as possible and ask for their help.
2. If you are unable to do this for any reason, please contact your local A&E and tell them your situation. They will do their very best to help you.
If you feel unable to do any of the above, or are feeling in despair or suicidal please contact the Samaritans. You can call them on 08457 90 90 90.

I don't understand why people think this is a
little girl's disease. Many men have this.
And it's not all about being fat it's a complex physiological disease connected to stress and depression. Good luck to you!
