  • I actually like Tommy voice more. LOL

  • but I must ask, did a poodle die on his head?

  • love this song, junior high dances, classic slow dance song. pure greatness.

  • Absolutely adore this song

  • Excelente...!

  • Beautiful song

  • Gosh what a voice! Beau

  • Does anyone know when this was done?

  • =)

  • @fercast59, sabes de que año fue este show?

  • Great version:) Love that guy...pure singing:)

  • It's amazing! Hardly any light show, minimum props and talent! Always made for excellent shows! It was good and I remember it well. At 50+ yrs young I still remember most of the words. Wonderful memories.

  • Grew up with this song...mom and dads wedding song. Great band, great music

  • Great song!

  • @friztag...yes it is sad they replaced him. I have the same disease...I know how he felt (feels). It was STYX loss...true me. I saw them in 2007, not the same at all.

  • Met the band wen I was like 6 awesome as s?it

  • Luv u baby ...

  • @vozzervox Where?

  • 4 dislikes,, there taste must be in there arse..

  • Shame of the poor sound quality.....!

  • this is the song of the transition period between the 70s and 80s

  • one word, SUPERB

  • depresses me

  • I was born in '85 and styx rocks. That should give you a sense of their impact. THe only reason they got a bad rap is because the press is a bunch of cynical jackasses.

  • styx helped me stir up the drama my teenage mind was struggling with so many years ago. i heart them!

  • The all time BEST band EVER!!!!

  • Does anyone know when this was filmed? I'm surprised that Tommy Shaw is on stage with Dennis. I know for a while they hated each other.

  • @Angel3243

I think this was shot during the Return To Paradise Tour in '96...

  • @Angel3243 Wasn't so much hate as Tommy being burned out on trying to do conceptual music. I think that even today, there isn't hatred between them as much as hatred between James Young and Dennis. Tommy comes across as just wanting to play music, whereas JY and Dennis both have a bit of a control streak to them.

  • @Frontmanfrg Thanks! I was wondering what the back story was. I never was that far into Styx to know they did mostly conceptual stuff. A friend of mine recently saw Night Ranger at EPCOT and said that they sounded great, so I know that Jack Blades is happy. (I'd heard rumors about another Damn Yankees album for a long time)

  • @Frontmanfrg There was a Behind the Music that aired after the lawsuit between the band and Dennis. (Dennis didn't want them to perform any song he wrote/sung; the band didn't want him billing himself as "The Voice of Styx." Both of them were wrong on the stances they took; but there was a settlement to it.) Tommy seemed disappointed that the band would move on without Dennis; but wanted to perform anyways. I think if, given the chance, Tommy and Dennis could settle their differences.

  • @Frontmanfrg I wasn't really that involve w/ the issues surrounding the breakup of bands and such...but really...this is really saddening for them and for the fans as well...what did really happened to them?

  • @friztag06 Creative differences. Dennis wanted to take the band in one direction, Tommy wanted another, and James Young wanted something similar to Tommy's. When Tommy left the band after the Kilroy was here tour, he said, "I just cant write songs about robots." Music is a fickle thing, as is musicians. They could be making a lot better money if the creative points of view would be more flexible on all 3 of them.

  • @friztag06 Even with their differences, they would've still kept him had he not been dealing with his trigeminal nerve issues that made him oversensitive to light and sound (see wiki under DDY). He also had to halt his obligations with Hunchback/ broadway because of that. I think they could've dealt with each other if he hadn't been sick. They werent willing to wait it out. It really saddens me that due to his illness they chose to "divorce" him. I think they did him wrong! He's my fave singer!

  • Real awesome bands on records or unplugged !

  • totally awesome!!!

  • i love this song

  • Exelentisimo...incredible..

  • This is when MTV wasn't pure crap.

  • The only reason then get a bad rap is because the critics are a bunch of sinical jackasses.

  • his signature voice wont fade...

  • Styx should get Anthony Federov to replace Gowan

  • This is awesome. Wouldnt think it would sound so good without a fender rhodes

  • hate to break it to you folks, but if you listen Tommy Shaw has the great voice and he can still sing in 2010

  • excelente canción, de las mejores de los 80's

  • Thumbs up if Dennis De Young gives you a boner ! Right on !

  • man... all the way to the end then he blew the "oooooooh babe" part. dang it. Cool notes at the end on piano, tho.

  • arg bass line make my heart craze

  • man,i remember listening to this song back in 1979,it brings good memories and good times.wish i could go back in time so i could enjoyed again with my friends, some of them are gone already.i sure missed them.

  • @valvo61

yeah, man I wish I could go back sometimes. I saw styx back in 77 or so with the best friends a guy could want.

  • i really love this song... :">

  • Música de todos los tiempos. Te amo Yovana, que la música nos una siempre. Bless you!

  • I am in awe of Dennis every time I hear him sing. They don't make musicians like him anymore!

  • Thank God!

    His theatrics belong on Broadway.

  • one of the best unplugged ever ,,if u asked me ,,

  • unique..................

  • egos schmegos..

    Styx should have kept DeYoung..

todays singers can only dream of this...

  • My fav. Styx song. Great vocals

  • Tommy Shaw is still cute (but he's not the lead in this song, it's Dennis de Young).

And yes, Mike, I still remember you fondly.

  • what an amazing voice. This is a timeless classic . Lovely words

  • Its hard to say what happened between dennis, tommy and jy but i feel dennis was the problem since he is a primadonna.....i wish they would just put it back together and make another album, they are all still great musicians, tommy is and always has been my idol but i love the voice of dennis......i am waiting !!!!!!

  • They all had swelled heads not just dennis. watch VH1 styx behind the music on youtube, they should have called the show lets bash dennis

  • thanks for the reply, i watched all 6 parts and you are right.....wow

  • i want to know, there was this boy group who make tis cover song....please help me....maybe arnd the early 90s

  • one of the GREATEST love songs ever!!! timeless classic...81 -84 davao sma

  • Tommy Shaw is one of the best!!!!

  • and was really hot back then

  • This song makes me all misty-eyes..... so romantic........... Ahhh!

  • Thank you this is such a memory of an old boyfriend. Doonie I will always think of you when I here this.

  • Rose, this is 4 u.....

  • I only know one Babe, it's for you.

  • Compleely enjoyed this video. Thanks for posting it. Have always liked this song, but have only heard it on the car radio and at the roller rink way back then. Hearing it again in the car today is what brought me here. This was terrific.

    Sudsy

  • Totally.

  • Sounds amazing unplugged. This is why Styx needs to get back together with Dennis.

  • Will never happen. Too much bad blood at this point.

  • Yeah. Yeah. Thank you Tommy and JY for ruining the band.

  • Tommy and JY are still in the band Dennis is the one who left.

  • They kicked him out of the group he co-founded. he found out through a press conference they replaced him with gowan.gowan sounds like a dog howling in pain.

  • even if they wanted to, the question is when? Tommy Shawn and co are planning a Damn Yankees reunion once Styx takes a break.

  • Tommy Shaw*

  • they would fill the biggest stadiums out there just like they used to do!!!

  • Dennis didn't leave, they left on tour without him cause they didn't want to wait for him to get his medical problems taken care of.

  • @NukeCulear they couldnt wait sorrly ,,

  • Well that's pretty weak considering that Dennis is the key element to Styx, and Gowan can't hold a candle to him.

  • god , back when the dinos were still around ,i saw the original tw4 ,, ,,saw them again when they renamed tthemself to Styx ,, my older brothers went to school with the p brothers ,, dont ever put down one of the best rock bands in the world ,,

  • ahh jazus had me first kiss and dance with this song love it x

  • Styx is one of the greatest american rockbands. People need to go back and listin to the love and compassion coming from 70's and 80's music other than the rappers talking of sex, drugs, death, perversion, everything that makes life ugly. We need to bring back the love..... oh and the music sounds better than crappy rap

  • I totally agree with you, dude!! Crap, i mean, Rap must be eliminated!!

  • bad mix

  • This song by Stix always seemed such a great song to people in love. I am always in love. I love Styx!

  • Just saw Dennis DeYoung in concert in Montreal last night and he played this song! I almost cried, his voice is sick live... I know I'm cheesy but he's a legend!

  • @eixela22 you are not cheesy

  • @eixela22 I would've cried!!!!

  • Man easy, take it easy. Turn off the computer and get your finger paints out. The guy has his opinion. Try making a logic rebuttal cause your comment came off as the type of people who listen to the music YOU just ranted about. Don't get made at me, just be mindful next time.

  • better gay, then a runescape-nerd

  • If I went and saw Styx and they didn't play Babe, I'd be shattered...Kind of the reason I would go see em I guess. Bummer, Hueyav8r!

  • That poser Gowan would not come close to doing this song justice. So it probably good thing they did not do this song.

  • Gowan is a pretty good sing. He's a crappy pianoist. Ive seen him with styx in person he is good but nowhere near as good as dennis. Oh and the reason he can't do this song is because of a major lawsuit only Dennis can play this and Mr.Roboto and lady and so on. The only Dennis song styx plays is Come Sail Away and Suit Madem Blue. I hope they get inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame because Dennis said he would play with them again if they did!!! That would be awsome!

  • This is nice!! :D

  • Saw Styx in concert last week. This is the only song they missed. Loved the concert but wish they play Babe.

  • Given the 'current' line-up, there is NO way they will ever play this song.

  • Great!! Has this unplugged version been released on an album?

  • I don't think so. Looked around eBay and can't find it. Definitely not in stores. Shame!

  • My beautiful, much older sister used to sing this to me when I was about 3. I cannot help bursting into tears (D'oh) whenever I hear it...Think it's more happiness than sadness though. Bless her.

  • That's a very sweet story.

  • Gran canción. Me encanta. Gracias amigo!!!

  • Una hermosa canción

  • aw

I Love hearing him sing "i'll be lonely without you"

  • this is my fave song........................

  • Even I will admit that Mr. DeYoung nailed it with this awesome song. And, GREAT backing vocals by JY!!

  • Styx as it was meant to be. Too bad, but it seems DDY left on his own. Sad.

  • they kicked him out and where not nice about it al all

  • cool

  • Comment removed

  • Please believe me my heart is in your hands........ l LOVE THAT SONG !!!!!!!!!

  • magic

  • I'm 46 and I saw these guys at our local county fair when I was in 10th grade. What memories. Being girls, it took us all day to get ready for the concert that night in hopes we'd hook up with guys from our school. What great years those were. I can't be sure of course, but I have a feeling the kids of today have missed out on a great era. We got Styx, Foreigner, ELO, AC/DC just to mention a few....today they've got Britney and Fergie. I'm sad for their loss = (

  • hey terri ..I'm 53 and these guys played at our high school ...for homecoming .. I think ...when I was in 10th grade :-)

  • Great voice, great song.

  • i ♥ this song.

    its enjoyable to hear

  • Hermosa canción

  • Even though I may be 26 this band is really awesome. Most of the bands in this generation today just scream and bellow into a microphone calling is "music" No my friends THIS IS MUSIC. A froo-froo haired teenager gargaling into a microphone is not.

  • The bass is to high, no?

  • abit too loud yeah, but theres no such thing as too much bass :D

  • Good!

    :)

  • Styx, One of the best bands of the 70's and 80's.

I bought Equinox back in 75 and that was a great album, Styx just got better and better after Equinox. Dennis and Tommy are two great vocalists.

  • The voice of Styx

  • love him!!!I got aware of music bec of this song...

  • Dennis' voice only got better as he got older. Might not have the range he once did; but if you haven't had the chance you should hear him now.

  • i loved this song ...i was 13 =) great voice..and also i like *she cares* =))))

  • I was 13 then also. A masterpiece of a song! Blew me away then, still does. Everytime I hear it.

  • ok

    ok

    ok

    ok

  • now that's a voice

  • Yeah absolutely. And today they give awards to people like Leon Jackson who couldn't sing their way out of a wet paper bag! Desperate!

  • I love this song!!!!

  • a classic.....

  • In portuguese:

    Mágica! Lindo! Especial!

  • One of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard .... LOVE this song! Makes me think of Junior High :0)

  • Yeah, best jr. high make-out song ever!! Had to be there I guess..ha ha.

  • ça fait partie des classiques... Cette chanson survit à toutes les décennies passées...

  • babe i love you =D

  • oh man... so terrific.

  • Hervorragend!

  • there is no song that can mean SO much

  • wow, that's what I was trying to say :-)

  • sin duda alguna, de las mejores bandas de rock, y esta su mejor melodía, gracias por subir el video

  • Es una cancion maravillosa, escucharla me da nostalgia....

  • Me encanta , muy buena cancion =)
