@americanjedi77 As much I love this music, I also really loved the song Faith of the Heart, which is the main theme for Star Trek: Enterprise. Great song, crappy tv show.
How this wasn't nominated for a single Oscar, particularly in music, is beyond me.... What's even worse..... is that It Was Nominated FOR A FUCKING RAZZIE!!!!!!!!!!!!
yeah....we all still getting war with each other, aliens are far more advance from us, i assume that their aren't killing each other, maybe they know that human can't live in peace..so they are keep hiding ..imagine that we learn about their tech, what will happen to the universe ?
That part that starts at around 3:00 reminds me of Jupiter from the Planets. Although that could just be subconsciously because that planet in the video kinda looked like Jupiter.
Also, that image at 4:34 looks like it would be a Yes album.
This is what I was born for...to boldly go where no one has gone before....to stand on a new world, to look beyond it to the next one....you can't take the sky from me...
Enio did pretty good, especially at 2:50 when Jim is about to let in the liquid oxygen. It's tough to transition from erie to exciting without running into a bump.
Please man send humans to Mars!! would be great intertainment, they should make PAY per view when NASA launch manned mission. And give the money uncut for NASA's new upcomming missions.
I find it sad that this has become a pissing contest between John Williams fans and Ennio Morricone fans. Can't we just admit that they are both unbelievable composers?
Absolutely. They are both awesome composers! But I guess, I can reconcile you: Nobuo Uematsu beats both of them ;) (not kidding, he does, you'll need about 6 hours to listen to the best of his themes 1 time, and each of them is great and full of ideas). Start with Zanarkand, Those who fight (w3sp version), FF7 main theme, FF7 intro, Vamo alla Flamenco, Tina's theme, piano version of Jenova, One Winged Angel, FF12 Chocobo theme, Liberi Fatali, FF2 main theme, FF9 behind the door...
You do know that Close Encounters was being composed by Williams when Morricone was still doing spaghetti westerns? There is a progression to everything and it does not make what comes before invalid.
Oh shut it, Close Encounters of the Third Kind beats this in every way possible. I like Morricone, but John Williams' score to that movie just suits it better than Ennio Morricone's to Mission to Mars.
If they faked the moon missions, it's possible that they faked the Mars missions too. Do a YouTube search on "MarsFaker".

Mission To Mars is one of my favorite movies - brilliant visual effects, unique storyline, great acting....this movie was so underrated when it came out!
Gary Sinise, Tim Robbins, Connie Nielsen, Jerry O'Connell, Don Cheadle, Kavan Smith and Peter Outerbridge did a great job!!!

yes his compositions are just so amazing. The score he wrote for the untouchables is amazing as well. I am trying to arrange the ending title by ear currently
This is one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard!
I can't find it on sale on itunes and to buy it new off amazon would put me out $80.
I don't see what is so difficult about uploading 10 songs on the itunes server. The worst it can do is make money for the composer and itunes...because this is such a freakin awesome soundtrack!!
I'am broke as well! But I would consider selling a kidney for this.. The soundtrack is just not available!!! Anyone got this? One Slightly used kidney as a swap! Only joking, it's been well used.
I love this cue! I recently saw the film for the first time and also heard the score for the first time during it. For its entire duration I was thinking "boy, the music does not fit this film at all"
There is not ONE sequence in the entire film where Morricone's GREAT music matches the visuals.
By the time I reached the end of the film? I realised something...
The music was WRONG for the film because it is simply too damn GOOD!!
The film itself was anything BUT good, it was AWFUL in fact.
i disagree with you ....... i thought this film was brilliant... made so by the soundtrack. in all the years ive been watching scifi, this rates in the top 5 of best sounding soundtracks that really makes the film.... number 1 being ET, 2 - starwars 3 - close encounters - 4 mission to mars 5 - contact...
this film, mission to mars captivated me, firstly because of the soundtrack and secondly cos there aint much dialouge needed because the pictures and music tell the story.
2:49 feels like I'm on a highway driving toward a major city, and I can see the skyline getting closer and closer. The pulse and energy of the city grows with the size of the buildings and the number of cars and people...can't ya just feel it? :D
I just love the image of the planet. I wish I could be the person to make first contact with an advanced, friendly alien species. That would make my life complete. I really think there is intelligent life somewhere in the universe. There is no way we could be the only self-aware species. That would be such a waste.
very true. to be the only planet in all of a fathomless universe i find impossible. there are just so many areas outside our own solar system for there non to be a second earth. though its hard to figure were sentient life came from.... stuff like this makes my head hurt.
