  • I lived 3 miles from the NYS fair. What a mess. Constant flashing green lightning. 100+ mph winds. I forgot to close a window in the bedroom, ran in to close it and papers and stuff were blowing around in a circle. No power for 4 days.

  • yep, i was 8 years old, smack in the middle of syracuse. good times.

  • This one was too far north for me on Long Island but there was a second derecho later that afternoon that hit PA/NJ/NYC/LI. I've never seen the sky get so dark so fast.

  • I was 14 when this happened. I just remember the sheer intensity of the whole thing. I'll never forget the sound of the windows on my house as if they were going to be sucked out of their frames. Surprisingly there wasn't much damage on my street.

  • i was just 2 but ive seen photos and there was a church completly toppled accross from my aunts house, it was incredible

  • I was attending SUNY Morrisville when this happened. I'll never forget that night. 13 years later and it still freaks me out. I remember watching this thing roll in, starting as a thin line of "strobe lights" on the horizon and just coming in like a bat out of hell...within minutes. So much damage...we had three days of no classes because of it..and for good reason.

  • There's always a possiblity that a storm like this can happen again....

  • Hey didn't you guys get hit with another Derecho in like 2002 or 2003? I remember one crossing all of NY state and then dying out just before it crossed into my state (CT)... but the lightning I saw with that system as it approached was prolific

  • @erasetoimprove 2003

  • I was sleeping when this was happening so scary

  • did it hit Johnson City NY?

  • @MyJonny25 The worst of the storm was north of there, but the tail end might have affected the city somehow; You know, some lightning maybe gusty winds and a downpour. As far as I know there weren't any damage assesments there.

  • @msteere132 well I asked my mom about it she said we had possible *Tornado Warning's* if that's right

  • @msteere132 I was located in Broome County when this was happening terrible thing to remember before my mom and my dad and I were going to sleep many EAS's that day terrible

  • Who can forget this 1

  • I remember that storm- I lived in Saratoga County then and woke me up at 3am...the storm was insane. Where are/were you located?

  • Southern Herkimer County

  • What's the song starting at around 0:31? I remember that one from when I was a kid...always wondered if I'd hear it again.

I remember this storm too...it hit us right as soon as the Jets lost that overtime opener in San Fran.

  • @TheSchafe55 The song is Torcuato Mariano: Last Look

  • This Storm was insane, 120mph winds on my weather station in Northeastern Wayne County.

  • I live in syracuse new york. I was born August 1998 and was only 3 weeks old. By the way, this is the daughter of the account owner.

  • @ticurtis I thought that my life when I MyJonny25 would be in this disaster but i was in 2 Derecho's

  • I miss the weather channel. Now it's the idiot storm stories channel, dumbed down to American TV.

  • @PositivelyBored Hey, I totally hear you on that one

  • geddes got hit real bad i watched a tree actualy bend and touch the ground and it looked like my neighbors house dissapeared !! solvay really got the worst of it all !!

  • Were there any tornadoes?

  • no tornadoes, but the winds were so strong that it was like a tornado, only straight line

  • That night was crazy as hell. My house had to be fixed after that.

  • can someone find the loop of the NYC labor day derecho that formed after this one?

  • nice . . . it's weird how there's severe thunderstorm warnings on the TV and shown on the radar while soothing jazz music plays in the background. I love the jazz during the local forecast. BTW I live in Roch. NY and I was 9 years old when this hit. It killed two people at the state fairgrounds in Syracuse. Thank heavens it wasn't during the day when the fair was going on. It was also supposed to be the last day of the fair. Thanks for posting this!

  • The other music artists are-

    Torcuato Mariano: Last Look

    Torcuato Mariano: Secrets

    Ficara: Swing it

  • Great video. I'll never forget that night.
