This movie came out it a short lived window of time, we had to rent this machine and the movie on this big disc the size of an LP record. That did not last long before they went through both the beta and vhs formats. It was a competitor to the animated heavy metal flick. It took years to get heavy metal on vhs in the u.s. becuase canada owned the rights and would not give permission to be released in America.

Frank Frazetta and Boris Valejo... the best fantasy artists ever. Speaking for myself, was the only justification for playing Dungeons & Dragons as a teen. Exposure to busty and buxom beauties in an otherwise ultraconservative and catechismic household.

woah ! ok I know this was created a few decades ago but dammm how the hell did they animate so fluidly !? I can't even compare the modern day animations to this one in terms of consistent movement on ALL characters depicted in it. Wow just wow... today's cg variants don't even come close unless they resort to using 3D.

@ZinXlX Rotoscoping was used. They filmed the scenes with live actors and traced it with consistent linework.

I wouldn't say that had more skill, but they did have pretty damn good tracers. Usually rotoscoping is used for key frames only, but this film they literally did each frame and it shows.

How this movie was rated PG back in 1983 is beyond me. With all the violence and the half naked tail running around you would think they would have made a little more of an age appropriate rating. I remember watching it when I was like 5 years old back in 1987, it left an impression.

This is an interesting film. I am no particular fan of comic/cartoon art, but despite that, I can see that this is a well crafted and written piece.

It reminded me of "He-Man". Did this film predate that ? Could one of them have been an influence on the other ? Am I the only one who sees these similarities ?

This animation is totally cheating! The reason why its so fluid and looks so real is because they shot it live action first and then did painted cells over the film they shot. Oldest trick in the book.
