This video clip must surely go down in the history books it is the most fantastic song of all time on eurovision. However it didn't win still remains a mystery to me to this day. What do you think?
Definitely one of the most romantic, most unforgettable songs ever on Eurovision. Honestly too good for Eurovision. At the end of the night, the Maestro really showed how it should be done. I think 1991 was one of the greatest years on Eurovision; there were just so many good songs, for example, Spain, France, Israel, Malta, Greece, just to name a few.
I agree enirely. Even though i had only just been born in 1991, my mom tells me good things about that year's eurovision. I really, really liked France's song. The way the woman sung was simply awe inspiring.
Hm, i've noticed that, in recent years, the eurovison has not performed to the high standards of the 1991 performance :/. of course, this is only my opinion.
Oh how cute you were an infant at the time. I was about 15, 16 then. (You must be a teenager?!) I had been watching Eurovision for 5, 6 years by then. I started recording it in 1990, on VHS (do you even know what it is?), and I still have the tapes!!! Ah, the memories, just like this song! Your opinion is a fact; Eurovision really went down the sewer in the new millennium.
Hehe ^_^ Yes, i'm 17 now. I know what VHS means xD. I can't believe you've still got the tapes O_O Thats awesome! Yeah, i really disliked this year's Eurovision. As i suspected, England came virtually nowhere T_T (terrible song, i really disliked it :/ ) I asked my mom if england has ever won and she said something along the lines of 'not for about 20 years'
And yes, I wish Amina had won even though Carola was a worthy winner as well. I remember they sang one after the other, and it was pretty damn exciting. In 1991, they had to sing an Italian song in each intro--way better than the usual tourism shots--and one could tell who's likely to win just by that as Amina and Carola really nailed their canzones.
Even though they haven't entered for 10 years Italy still have more great Eurovision songs to their credit than anyone else and this is the best of the lot. Great performance and a melody to die for, brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.
You should hear the Italian entry of 1980 - you won't believe how much I gaped and cursed the juries that that unbearable mess got 6th place. I'm still stung by that.
For me Italy and Spain had the best entries. Wasn't too struck on Carola (thought her 1983 Eurovision song was more melodic), and France, while original, did nothing for me. The Israeli song was strong, but they tend to produce (but not always) formulaic entries. Great shame Italy do not enter the contest anymore, although tend to feel that they might be a little precious about themselves. Nevertheless, miss songs like this, and their best ever entry by Mia Martini which was superb.
Yeah, she was timeless, and yet she lost to three songs which were, as far as I was concerned, all rather weak and not one of the night's stand-outs - though I must say Linda Martin gave quite a good performance.
AWSOME song! Italy´s songs in this contest are truly in their own category. Allways lightyears ahead the others, and allways underrated. No wonder they don´t whant to be apart in ESC anymore.
The best thing about toto winning in 1990 was we got to enjoy a extra 30 minutes of euro 91-this was one of my favourite italian entries along with the great mia martini and Alice & franco battiato.Euro 91 was a great contest and france, isreal and italy were all deserving winners, sorry carola.
The Swedes didn't win because of Carola... it was because of her dancers! They were the thing I remembered about this contest for the longest after... the song couldn't hold a candle to this one though.
This is truly the Italian entry that would have deserved to win, instead of the overrated Toto Cotugno the previous year. A truly beautiful song and performance (and in the dialect of Naples!) and, along with the also excellent French and Israeli songs, the best entries of 1991.
Very true, tasos. I felt the exact same way; switch the Italian entries of 1990 and '91, and I would have been content with the placing. Peppino delivers astoundingly here, and this beautiful song gives me goosebumps. France, Israel and Italy really should have made the top three that year; they WERE the best (whereas I felt Sweden, Spain and Malta were a bit overrated).
I totally agree on your top-3 - three of the best ESC entries of the past 20 years appearing in the same contest! Must say however that I also like the Spanish entry (my #4 for the year - some great lyrics there), but otherwise I agree on Malta and, especially, Sweden (though I must admit that Carola's vocal was quite good).
Oh lads please. For me I cant see all this "Italian-coloured" specs - they gave no more or no less decent songs in the ESC. Cant say I miss them - and this song does nothing for me - bland.
As I said, I felt Spain were rather overrated, and the song lacks a winning note with me. I find the intro rather beautiful, but otherwise I just can't say I like it. (And in my present opinion, I would have liked the top-3 to have been composed of France, Italy and Switzerland or Greece.)
Oh, come on, I loved "Bailar Pegados". True, Sergio Dalma was too full of himself with all that latin-lover posing, but his vocal was absolutely spot-on, and I love how the melody progresses and climaxes. Now, as for YOUR top-3... well, we've already talked about the UK, so I'm going to spare you the bashing this time :-) But thank you for choosing our entry - though not successful in the voting, it became a huge hit in Greece and it's considered a classic to this day.
TBH Tas (my dear friend ;) ) Im not that nationalistic but since commenting on YOUTUBE Ive decided to fight my corner. I actually prefer cyprus to UK entry. BUT LISTEN EVRYBODY MY TOP ITALIAN ENTRIES - 1958, 1964, 1975, 1997 !!!! hoorah!!

Dont think that was the reason - low ratings & MONEY were the biggest factors - dull entry .... fell asleep

On a personal scoreboard I made for myself in '91, ala Sims, Italy came second right after France.
