RATM have been a very successful band for so many years, Joe McElderry has just won the X Factor, and became the first winner to not make it to Christmas number 1, you can't compare the two at this point.
They are both completely different either way, but when you say 'new beginning' for Joe McElderry, that's not really true, most X Factor, Pop Idol etc winners do not make it very far. Infact, I've forgotten some of the winners anyway (says something, doesn't it?)

Had to laugh when I heard that this year's X-Factor by-product (Joe) was denied the Xmas no.1 spot, especially when hearing how it happened.
The Facebook campaign had a point though, X-Factor has been relentlessly targeting and winning the Xmas no.1 spot for too long. The show is so big and has so much weight, that the competition usually doesn't stand a chance. Gone where the days when you didn't know who'd be no.1.
Happy to see a break in this trend. Music will benefit :)

@tiddlywinks98712; How about this, they both sang it well. Sure Journey did better on the high notes with 'this' song but Joe's voice sounded better in my opinion after listening to theirs'. I think Joe master the top notes with his 'sorry seems to be' performance. That one was class.
Also I agree with that point. Number one means nothing, Rage fans need to grow up.
