  • I am in love with Linda... does anyone know her phone number?

  • Outstanding........

  • Chorus of angels..........

  • It's a big shame they divorced. These two's vocals mixed so well together.

  • Gorgeous song!!!!

  • beside that this is an absolute amazing song also outstanding guitaraccents by richard.

  • achingly beautiful

  • I love this song. I keep playing it over and over again.

  • don't you hate when some song you ding seems to be be taken over by ten year olds who are addicted to it?

  • @howslatoday Somebody else enjoying a song shouldn't affect your opinion of it

  • It's been so long since I've heard this song. Like seeing an old friend. I forgot I much I loved it, until I heard it again.

  • So beautiful!

  • Played this at my wedding....we split up a month later. Just kidding;o)

This song totally sums up my feelings about her.

  • Two comments: How long after this did they split up? Also, Teddy looks just like Mom!

  • Should be shown to all talent show performers so they can see genuine emotion and talent.

  • Clear and wonderful.

  • amazing voice, really

  • A heart-rending performance. Love it.

  • Linda Thompson has one of the bleakest voices I've ever heard. It made her so perfect for the stuff he was writing back then.

  • linda ist eine völlig irre, verlogene schlampe

  • a genuine delight.

  • the worlds no place when your on your own.................. beautiful. wicked song.

  • The World's no place when you're on your own..A heart needs a home.Beautiful sentiment and beautiful performance!

  • She was beautiful.

  • About as great as music gets.

One of the all-time greatest guitarists/songwriters with one of the all-time greatest vocalists singing a classic.

  • @IvanLendl87 and then there's Teddy- the lovechild of the two.

  • Another box of tissues gone to a good cause...amazing.

  • This is a song that really demonstrates what a fantastic songwriter Richard Thompson is. I see him live every chance I get. Unfortunately I've never had the priviledge of seeing Linda live.

  • arghh! i cry every time i listen to it...so so so so beautiful!

  • My favourite singer of all time .

    God Bless .

  • what show are they on anyone know?

  • @t0msc0tcher The Old Grey Whistle Test, March 1975

  • I am also addicted to this song, amazing!

  • love this song. Has gotten me through some rought times

  • do you think they're warm enough?

  • happy new year, everyone.

  • English music for the mass market was holding onto their fingers nails in the 1970s, and I thought it might held, but then Thatcher came along and fucked up UK balance.

Grand Hotel, bombing? That is what happens when you play with the simple balance.

Thatcher was a lunatic. The next brit female PM will be wonderful, I can see it now.

    Song,

    watch?v=MmudJafnQh0

  • indescribably lovely

    still

  • there is nothing in even close proximity to this piece of delicious agony.

She that I love come home soon the Pandas pine:-)))) and there is no bamboox

  • I was recently turned on to Richard Thompson by my yoga teacher. She's such a cool lady and has good taste in music.

  • One of the most hauntingly beautiful songs of all time.

  • @AnitaBerger I know its such an amazing song, with such beautiful harmonies

  • I have watched this about 20 times at least this evening and for some reason I cant help clicking the replay button.

  • This song slays me every time I hear it. Beautiful and heart-wrenching.

  • @daf827 I can't hear it without tears coming to my eyes. Not sure why, exactly. No other song does that to me.

  • Id forgotton about this too and like synco can across it again at a similar time

  • Richard and Linda Thompson. That's some heavy juju, folks.

  • Perfection pure and simple, nuff said.

  • To whom it may concern: In reference to my now deleted comment, the volume issue I'd had, heretofore, was a fault with my player, and not this video. All apologies.

  • I have went through all the youtube videos of Richard and Linda together and I reckon this is the most representative of their most glorious period. Just beautiful really.

  • ..tears...

  • Beautiful!

    thanks for posting!

  • This is totally, absolutely AWESOME!

  • Beautiful song, wonderful harmonies...

    Thanks for the share Michael

  • My favourite song of theirs along with Dimming of The Day and every other song they ever made!!!! what a beautiful performance!! Lovely 5*****

  • This is brilliant, it's my favourite love song EVER, This acoustic version is fab, the album version is great too but there is an alternative album version (if you can get it) where Richard plays a 'duelling' guitar and Linda's vocals are doubled in places that is absoutely perfection. 10/10

  • Would love to know how to get that alternate version.

  • One of the great voices

  • How about Buckingham and Nicks

  • Good one, hawkwood44. Although it seems as though the Buckingham-Nicks relationship was MAD (to use the old Cold War term) from the start, whereas the Thompsons took rather longer to implode.

Actually, a buddy of mine saw Richard, Linda, and Teddy near the backstage area at a Chicago show a few years ago and told me they were getting along fine, so perhaps the scars healed somewhat.

  • Has there ever been such a mutually destructive relationship that yielded such beautiful consequences?

  • @wmtucker Probably.

  • Yes.

  • Magnificant.

Richard is singing rather shy beneath his wife here. Understandably.

  • oh shit, linda sounds so pretty

  • I have never heard this song from 1975. But I must say this song is now one of my favorites. It's so got a John Denver flavor do it,no doubt, and a touch of Ammie Mann from Til Tuesday. I have also never heard of this british group before.

  • John Denver flavor? Anyway, you must have good taste if this is one of your favorites. But John Denver?

  • What i ment was the guitar playing has a john denver flavor feel to it reffering to the music. Still a great song.

  • This is perfection.

  • Annie's inspiration............

  • Whispering Bob, Richard and Linda Thompson all in the one video - heavenly !!!! Wonderful song

  • why is it you stumble, by accident, upon heart wrenching songs when your heart is being wrenched?

  • JUST LUCKY I GUESS! Just feel fortunate that you have You Tube and the opportunity to experience Richard By God Thompson, I know I Do! God Save Richard Thompson!

  • @syncosync karma, man, karma...for future reference, avoid these: god only knows,

  • @Putaspellonyou ruby's arms as well, any of sandy denny's solo work,

  • @syncosync subconsciously you want to here that there's also someone else who's feeling the way you are. Or maybe its Irony? Who knows man?

  • @syncosync I can't take it, 9 months on, same girl! ugh, again.

    ALL MY FAULT! Advice people?

  • @syncosync You too, eh? Comforting in an odd way to know someone else out there is listening to this and feeling and going through similar things.

  • Comment removed

  • @syncosync they find you. hope everything is better now.

  • @syncosync because you dont know good music

  • @syncosync is it becasue when your heart is being wrenched, every song wrenches it further?...that seems to be my luck

  • breath-takingly

    jaw-droppingly

    stunningly

    beautiful

  • Yep.

  • It is wonderful that artists evolve and develop over time - you couldnt ever quarrel with a song of RT's he is such a craftsman songwriter and his playing is so fine - Must confess that my favourite era for him is from Liege and Lief up to First Light.

The furious collaborations with Swarbrick and then the spiritual desolation/searching and then the reigious-tune-as-lovesong (which is an old tradition in Sufi Islam) Planet Waves to Street Legal is a similar peak IMO - the raw true stuff.

  • takes my breath away.

  • Why so few songs from the duo up on Youtube,a copyright problem, maybe ? No sign of Hard Luck Stories or Sweet Surrender, others in their album formats.

  • amazing amazing song..

any one know where i can get a tab??

  • i am addicted to this song.

  • Simply beautiful. Wow. I wish I had seen them together - I've seen Richard numerous times and Linda once, but to have seen them together would have been something else entirely.

Maybe someone can talk them into doing a reunion tour... :-)

  • "Maybe someone can talk them into doing a reunion tour"

That's one of life's great 'it only' things, innit?

    *sigh*

  • Old Grey Whistle Test

    'Whispering' Bob Harris

Look in wikipedia for any further info.

  • What show was this taken from? Who's that guy in the beginning?

  • Also its just occurred to me that I've only really been a fan of Mr. Thompson for a few years so I am working my way through his back catalogue in a retrospective manner. I suppose this makes my view of his cannon of work some what different to someone who may have heard his work with Linda in the context of the 70's (as it were). However, maybe that makes me a less bias judge of the standard of his work over time than someone who is more emotional (or worse maybe hehe).

  • Nothing wrong with coming to appreciate a great artist late in the day. Great art is always gaining new fans. Glad to have your fresh perspective.

  • thats a strange thing to write lilacnell.. i would say that 'rumour and sigh is easily some of his best work. Maybe its just too stylistic-ly different for you though? i can understand that. how ever in the broad sweep of thing musical id say its pretty much up there with any of his earlier output.

'Sweet warrior' is great too, 'Dads gonna kill me' is a stomper!

  • I can see how someone who loves these ballads and his love songs (or spiritual songs sung as love songs) might not like Richard's solo stuff as much. You rarely hear anything this personal in his solo work - it's almost all character sketches. Musically he is just as good (or better now) and I love his current work but would love to hear something more personal again. Rumor and Sigh is one of my favorites though.

  • agreed!

I think also it should be said that a artists interests in terms of subject/inspiration are going to change over the years.

Although having said that I think songs like 'I still dream', 'reckless kind' (from 'Amnesia') and 'Thats all, Amen, Close The Door' (from Mock Tudor') are pretty similar in terms of lyrical style. Its just the style and instrumentation that has changed (a bit).

  • Richard never surpassed the records he made with Linda. He came close but was never again this sublime

  • This and Dimming of the Day...but then that is just the red wine talking as there are so many more songs by Richard that weave in out of my life...Just the Motion..Beeswing...I feel guilty sometimes that he is not rich and famous but grateful at the same time that he isn't as it makes you feel a stonger empathy...

  • So much better than the recorded version, IMO.

  • this is an amazing version!

  • fantastic song.

  • a staggering work - truely great music

  • one of the most beautiful songs ever

  • Njoy RT and LT - voices, music, lyrics - Linda is better with RT, though a great talent in her own right.

  • Beautiful beyond words...

  • yes
