I think the line the "the time" is wrong. Cant hear what he says, not through lack of trying, but it ends with a 't' sound.

And perhaps its "alongside" rather than on the side

this is pretty true to his original style done when he was in a different band "The Real People" .. if you like this, check out the CD titled "The Joys Of Loosing Weight" made in 2001. To delve even further into Beirut history, check out Smalltime American Bats by 1971, made in 2001 by Zach Condon. It's got a very 'basement recording' feel to it.
