cao cao, isnt a military genius at all,..he have half milion infantry and cavalry,...what the heck he is trying to fight a navy battle??just round up at jiangdong and there u smash them like fly
The only one reason why Cao Cao's forces ealily defeated in this battle because he listened to Pang Tong and chained all his ships together. This made them a formidable floating castle but vulberable to only fire attack. Cao Cao has his ship chained and the wind was flowing into his battlement way. It was destined for Cao Cao to lose this battle, or else the history would be different.
@Solaris1986 The ships were chained together so the soldiers won't be seasick. The Wei country, unlike Wu, were mostly from the northern and far from the sea, they're not used to water battles. Wu has a very long shoreline plus southeastern China is known for its waters.
@Solaris1986 well that, the 200 mile march he made his troops take to get there, lack of food, lack of the troops experience at sea battles, the diseases from such a massive change in climate, the many hit and run attacks done by Wu and Liu Bei.
If Cao Cao could be more intellegent then he should order his navy ship to move forward in a straight line....creat a fence to let all the fire boat burnt with it. Then they would not suffer such a demage.
No i think they didn't even know that the general was surrendering. The general only PROPOSED that idea to try to save the guy's wife. Also it was a bit too late move the ships ahead since ALL the ships were linked together, not just a couple.
Cao's troops is 1 million, but they are made up of various other troops (gained through 'acquisition') so during a state of massive chaos like this, the hierarchical structure doesn't hold.
When Cao saw the fire boat approaching, he panicked. And he have every reason to do so, he knew that if his 1 million troops panicked, all hell break loose, and it did.
If only it wasn't during winter, the Cao Cao camp will be scorched like hell itself. Since, it is winter, it takes only a few minutes for the fire to die out.
i see. but my youtube upload thing is screwed up because i couldnt watch but the first 45 seaconds, so i couldnt get the full details of how bad it was

Cao Cao had 830,000 troops in the novel, which he masqueraded as "1 million troops".
In actual history, the amount is about 200,000 to 300,000.
