  • I really have always liked Matt Damon. He is intelligent and clear thinking and I have admired how he is unafraid to publicly air his opinions. This video makes me like him even more.

  • Part of why teachers are hated is the disparity of how much they're are paid. In certain states, they make an average of $35k, far too low. In some districts in America, they make $150k/year as a gym teacher, doing 3 classes and a study hall, with a $3,000,000 pension after 20 years. They retire at the age of 45 with a total payout of $6,000,000 "working" 9 months per year, summers & weekends off, and NO accountability because unions shelter them, all paid by tax dollars. And that's fair?

  • Why do Americans always have shout so loud. It's so rude to yell: yeach, youhoe, wow,.... get control on yourselfs. Children can yell. Just listen what the man has to tell and give him a decent appoval.

  • People don't hate teachers. People hate the bad teachers that, because of unions, don't get fired. If you're a bad accountant your company will fire you, why should it be any different?

  • @ragecave518

You can fire bad teachers, the administration needs to do their job on evaluations and fill out the paper work.

  • matt looks like John Malcovic after shaving his hair..much better

  • The best thing to do for education and teachers (I believe) would be to eliminate the Federal Department of Education. Let the teachers CHOOSE what they want to teach and save money by eliminating a massive bureaucracy then perhaps give tax breaks to the teachers.

  • 1:45 for Matt

  • matt is awesome

  • The Teachers need to rise up against the UNIONS, they are bad for the CHILDREN and if you are only in it for the money then Do Not Become a Teacher. The system is broken and the Unions and the Government involvement are the PROBLEMS. And the quality of the child that you are putting out you all should be fired you are over paid!!!!

  • Класс!!!

  • Why did he shave his head

  • teachers are important, therefore we should not be allowed to fire them...

shouldn't the opposite be true? the more important the employee's job, the more critical society should be of their performance.

  • Comment removed

  • Would you BLAME the POLICE OFFICER working in a HIGH CRIME AREA?

Would you BLAME the DOCTOR working in a hospital with a lot of SICK people?

Would you BLAME the LAWYER working with a lot of CRIMINALS?

Would you BLAME the BORDER PATROL AGENTS for all the ILLEGAL ALIENS that are crossing the border?

Would you BLAME the SOCIAL WORKER with a lot of WELFARE CASES?

Would you BLAME a TEACHER with students that refuse to study or do homework?

Schools are a reflection of their communities.

  • THEN WHY ARE KIDS IN AMERICA LAGGING BEHIND IN THE WORLD?? WHY?WHY?

  • @PLISKEN12 Because you dont pay your teachers, and your society focuses on violence, greed and insecurity.

  • @GnosticAtheist teaches here make average 53k they work from 8-3 and get three months off. our problem is the union. yes theres a lot of what u said.

  • @PLISKEN12 Every teacher here in Norway is a member of the teachers union. They earn around 70k (but prices here are higher). Do unions contribute to some individuals holding their jobs when they should not? Most likely, but it is needed as long as society does not comprehend the importance of teachers and other social workers. Note; I am not a teacher, and in Norway nearly everyone is in a union.

  • @GnosticAtheist but u dont understand, union is making it hard to get rid of bad teachers w/c is the majority.

  • @PLISKEN12 Yes, but that is the price when society does not pay enough for our childrens education. If the pay was high enough, they would not need unions or we could come to an agreement with the union. Teachers in general do not want retards in their midst, also, who want to be a teacher when you can earn more money as a steward?

  • @GnosticAtheist dont u pay a lot more taxes there too?

  • @GnosticAtheist r u saying its ok to keep bad teachers?

  • @GnosticAtheist 53 k is a very decent pay here in the usa.union over there works because u have good teachers , here even the dumb ones a re kept. there was one convicted of sending sex messages to his students and they couldnt fire him. its differenet here. they work 8-3 and they get 3 months off. 53k is still a decent pay if u work 12 months.

  • beautiful. this issue is actually global as the same stuff is happening in many other western countries.

  • Getting rid of pay on longevity will only ensure care salesman be teachers. Teachers should be FIRED if they aren't good enough to be a teacher that long. They need to change other money sucks. Teachers retiring and THEN coming back to teach, yeah double dipping the income? Cause that doesn't suck money away.

  • @Coldmystery i dont like to insult but some people deserve one once in a while...........sorry i guess you couldnt hear that. think about what you just said. THINK.......something im certain you didnt learn either

  • @leebo2020 Im not trying being insulting but the structure and phrasing of what you said is making it real hard to get what you're gettin at.

  • Thank you, Matt!

    I needed to hear that!

  • Matt -you're wicked so get your ass to Occupy Wallstreet and

    help Americans.!

Help fix our economic system with your mojo star power!

The nothing-from the heart Wall Street bastards are

    screwing us over.

    Smarten up!

Unless you have heart what's the point?

Get Clooney and the rat pack too.

    Let's go! Do this now!

Fricken entertainment can wait you bastards!

  • what an awesome mother

  • How you like them apples Matt " Dumb Ass" Damon. Wow you made a movie thinking you're some intellectual, hahahaha. Nice try. Economically speaking, socially speaking, internationally speaking, domestically speaking, .......you're still a dumb ass. Oh look a shiny object, fetch!

  • MYATT DAYMIN!!!!

  • People like Matt "Dumb" Damon should pay more, they certainly do not create any jobs!!!!!

  • @dijhili Shut the fuck up. I would think of a more eloquent way to say that, but I was brought up in TODAY'S public schools.

    Thank you Matt.

  • @elysium735 that is obvious. You are about as sharp as a tick-tack....or as Matt Damon, LOL

If you don't know what you are talking about you should just click next. Matt Damon knows nothing about today's economic issues nor the Teachers Unions inability to make a sound argument. Grow up child!

  • Comment removed

  • @elysium735 instead of "shut the fuck up" try something more original like; go suck dick milk from the chest of Obama's bukaki. LOL

  • @dijhili Why don't you eat a humongous sack of herpes-infected sailor-cocks you inbred, smooth-lobed, mouth-breathing troglodyte? I'm a better troll than you too dipshit.

Your semi-legible, incoherent, typographical-error-ridden comment really goes to show why you don't care about teachers; Because none of them could ever assist you in getting past your crippling illiteracy. Please go read a book. Not for my sake, but for your own.

"Green Eggs and Ham" would be a challenging warm-up for you :)

  • @elysium735 LOL

  • @elysium735 your first sentence; are you asking me why I don't? LOL

  • @dijhili You're right, I meant to insist that already do and consistently continue to eat humongous sacks of herpes-infected sailor-cocks and are an inbred, smooth-lobed, mouth-breathing troglodyte.

My bad. Thanks for pointing that out :)

  • MATTY-D WASSUP BOI! hahahahah gold

  • Sounding smart never fixed anything. Just look at the state of our country now. Matt endorsed Obama. Matts endorsing public schools. What do think is going to happen? Sounding smart doesn't mean they are smart or even have the solutions to the problem. Fuck these yammer heads. Put a sock in it Matt. We need retired professionals from the private sector teaching in our schools. They actually understand application and they don't care about the $.

  • MYAT DAAAMON!

  • theres an old dude in the audience who's in love with matt "matty D whats up!"

  • I agree. Linking teacher's job security with pupils test results neglects the many other variables in a child's life that determines how well they test.

I thought MD was a bit farcical when he seemed to completely disregard standardised testing. Testing is a necessary evil in education; there must be a way to measure pupil's ability. However I agree that pupil's should be engaged and primarily taught for the love of the subject. A good test result would be borne out of this.

  • MAAAATT DAAAMON.

  • @rleer23 lol that's how it is everywhere. It's human nature.

  • I wish I had the guts/talent to say, "Screw exams! The SAT is stupid" and still manage to be happy and succesful in my job. Matt Damon makes some really good points - he's obviously very intelligent, and he's totally right in saying that SATs are useless since they evidently aren't any sort of indication as to how intelligent someone is.

  • I think the teachers in this rally love to hear their own voices rather than those of the speakers. Shut up and listen. Have you not learned anything from teaching.

  • I loved being at this!

  • Matt was the smart, nice guy that was friends with everybody. Obama? Well, believe it or not, who cares. The true fact is that he was a little ghetto gang banger before plucked from that lifestyle and groomed for a presidency that was clearly fixed. Ppl voted for him DESPITE his policies BECAUSE he's black. He wasn't even BORN in the USA!!! He SHOULDN'T EVEN BE PRESIDENT!! am i a conspiracy theorist. no, I just have REALLY good intel w/ excellent sources.

  • Boy, ppl have forgotten how Matt Damon got his start. All you who have posted on here who don't believe his speech because he's an actor are...well, you're just sad. None of you know Matt Damon personally. I DO!! His mom is a GREAT teacher, and hoooo rahhh for teachers. Obama's policies SUCK! Matt Damon was my next door neighbor for years! My locker was like, 2 down from his in high school. He (prepare for shock value) REALLY IS A SMART GUY!!

  • This brought tears to my eyes. I would love to send this to Governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin.

  • Good speech

  • MATT DAMON FOR PRESIDENT!

    *HOLLYWOOD FEM-BOYS UNITE!!

  • What have we come to in this country when people are attacked for standing up for a quality public education? Apparently some of you oppose the very concept of "the land of opportunity."

  • Thumbs up if you have tried to pee sitting down like a girl.

  • Oh sure they really LOVE to teach!

Right up to the point collective bargaining breaks down and they don't get their way.

Then they walk out on STRIKE in the middle school year and leave the students hanging.

You know they REALY CARE about your kids education when that transpires.

    Fucken Jackals!

  • @dorksayswhat What, we should expect teachers to teach for nothing? They have to eat you know. They have a shitty salary already.

  • @videofanYT00

"They have a shitty salary already."

First of all, that's not the truth. I would ask, 'Compared to what?" To be a teacher, one needs a bachelor degree. Bachelor degrees don't pay 6 figures. 40-60k is very decent pay for a bachelor degree.

Second, there isn't a person in this country who doesn't know that being a teacher won't make you rich or wealthy. If these people want better pay, they need higher degrees and might need to teach elsewhere. If they can't hack it, move on.

  • @laffin2much

You're not taking into account the moronic nature of "high schoolers", and the fact that teachers still have to work at home- something that most of us don't need to worry about. Let's not forget that teachers tend to age quicker...And that teachers are nation builders...

And besides, doesn't USA have freedom of speech? So teachers have every right to ask for better wages, if you can't hack that, move on.

  • that's a pretty cool dude, right there.

  • This is painfully unteachable . First, the crowd should shut their traps and let Mr D actually talk without cheering every minute.

Second - and more importantly - Mr Damon was had a privileged and elite education - his parents were educated and his aforementioned mother was a professor of child learning. Thus, she knew how to raise little Matt - so much that he got good enough grades to go to Harvard.

What about the poor kids? They need better schools - and better teachers.

  • @WaytheWestWasWon Your right better parents make better students, rich or poor. When parents install values and eithics within their childeren it allows teachers to inspire, not just contain. A teacher averages 12% contact with a child from age 5 to 18, why are they responsible for 100% of the knowledge?

  • I wish I could have been there!!! AMEN MRS. DAMON! Teachers are not going to take it sitting down (behind their desks) anymore. I spent this past year making a documentary to address many issues discussed at this conference: LIKE A SCAPEGOAT ON A PENDULUM (LASOAP). It's on youtube. I love my fellow educators! i love public schools, but we must take control of our profession once again!

  • Words-in-mind: Derivative-figure-delivers-precise-yet-punctual-result /?/

  • The pretty actor speaks, everyone obeys (and votes).

  • @spankula123 The intelligent, successful actor shows up at a lowly teachers' rally, boosts morale, announces that he would be nothing without the teachers who made him successful, and everyone is impressed with his humility & civilized values, except the YouTube Neocons who are still whining about WMD in Iraq & complaining with jealousy about the actor's beauty. Is it jealousy? Or is it repressed attraction?

  • @neurotracker It's good ol' fashioned snake oil, and you've bought in. You've eaten at the trough and can't spit out what's in your veins. You're a believer. The "I'm not an actor, but I play one on TV" joke is not a joke to you. You keep listening to what the man has to say, 'cause he's good looking and can read smart-sounding lines out loud. Agents and studios made him successful, my friend, and he's a capitalist through and through. Except when he wants more fans. =o]

  • @spankula123 ten bucks says you're a Ron Paul flat-earther who wants to de-regulate banks even further

  • @neurotracker Nope, I just don't believe every actor with a six-pack. They're out of touch with reality.

  • @spankula123 Awwww...someone have a bad experience with someone famous before? Didn't get your autograph or picture taken? Your whole theory on the actor "not being in touch with reality" is so outdated and unoriginal dude.

  • @AJbeatinFinnegan Truth is only true if it's updated and cool, right? Haha, your logic undresses itself. Actors are exorbitantly paid pretty people who don't have original thoughts and are easily taken in by liberal rhetoric, plus they are completely removed from reality and fancy themselves a sort of "god" because of how they are treated. Take a break from TMZ and read a book.

  • Thank you Matt Damon and educators.... let your voices be heard!

  • This is exactly why our school system is falling behind other countries. Teachers (and Parents) don't want to take accountability for their efforts. They will fight to the end to avoid it. If they don't like standardized tests, then come up with something else yourselves.

  • He's a pretty good public speaker

  • democrats uber alles

  • No problem with what Matt is saying. However it is the Left who completely destroyed public education with their permissiveness, political correctness, bureaucracy, social promotion, mocking 2-parent families, and refusal to judge/punish disrespectful behavior(even trying to make it illegal to do so. Then they demonize the GOP for not burdening the taxpayers to fix the problems created by the liberals. I've taught 18 years. The prisoners run the asylum for the most part.

  • The Public Education System

    The Court System

    The Prison System

    The Tax Payer $

    It's perfectly clear!

  • @dorksayswhat

    well put!

  • My boy is wicked smaht.

  • @thesaurusrs if by that you mean idiot and liberal parrot!

  • yes, lets learn about diversity and how to be sensitive to other people. who cares about english, math and science.

    WOO-HOO!

  • Matt Damon was outstanding in "Saving Private Ryan"!! God bless all our "public" school drama and english teachers.

  • And who went on the offensive today to attack Matt Damon, telling him he needs to shut up? FOX news and the neo liberal shill Judge Napolitano. The hatred that these people have for working class families really is astounding. But make no mistake, the Wall St Democrats are no better.

  • There is no one dumber than Matt Damon.

  • @JackBlair2

You exemplified being light years dumber than he.

  • I went to a public school. it was ok, There were other public schools nearby that were much better. sure would have been nice if my parents could have decided which school i went to based on quality rather than geography.

  • Thank you Matt!! Public Education needs more supporters like you!!

  • 1:51 SCOTTY DOESN'T KNOW! SCOTTY DOESN'T KNOW!!

  • Lawl. Getting hated on by a bunch of teachers boys and grammar nazi's. Well done too bad your teachers didn't teach you aboot trollin coz dis is wat i dun. Trolling is an art.

  • @DsexLive Kids these days. Back in my day, trolling meant something.

  • This guy knows. How come its not falling on the parents?

  • Save our schools?......... But not our children who.... for some reason..... are getting dumber and lazier by the minute?.... and all while the teachers are getting more wealthy and secure in THEIR job and THEIR lifestyle. Matt Damon and his mindless movies for millions of bucks ARE responsible the the decay of our society. We need to trash this system for a better one! He's not a role model... He's a monkey who entertains us at the zoo and that is the best his mom (the teacher) could produce?

  • @dorksayswhat

Their lifestyle?? My sister makes like 34,000 a year! I remember pulling into highschool and every teacher had a worse car than most of the students. To act like they do it for the money is simply ridiculous. They do it because they want to teach, but have been restricted by inefficient parenting and forced curriculum. What about the terrible job our government does and yet they take home 200,000 plus a year. You're a joke, buddy. Don't reproduce.

  • @jyarsch 34k and a bunch of excuses about why the can't do it. All teachers should be retired professionals from the private sector. Minimum teaching credentials are no substitute for a Engineering degree and a life time of experience in the REAL world. Also school should be reduced to basic reading, writing, and arithmetic AND their application in the real world for the first 8 years. Corporal punishment should be REINSTATED. And cut out all the philosophical teacher bullshit.

  • @dorksayswhat

Please, before you come out with any more inane comment on something that you very apparently know absolutely nothing about, think.

  • @gman1002 Your the reason our country has spun into the abyss of economic depression. Unexperienced ignorant employees teaching previous insufficient taught victims (our offspring). Throw in a big pile of social distractions like "Black history month"etc etc. and they come out of school a bunch of worthless media morons who can't even fix a toaster. Oh... but they can bounce a ball and text on a little keyboard. Yea there is a lot of NEED for that in the real world. Fuck public school and you.

  • @dorksayswhat

According to your grammatical inaccuracies and the content of your textual vomit, it seems "you're" projecting some serious intellectual inadequacies on other people.

My advice is to take your head out of your ass, and look around you. If you had half a clue about anything, you'd see that your statement has no merit whatsoever, and is full of fallacies. However, since you obviously don't, I'll leave you to the ignorant world you and you alone live in.

  • @gman1002 Ha Ha Ha Ha "Projecting some serious intellectual inadequacies on other people" You go break that statement down and go put on that stupid sign along with you buddy Matt. Then read your other paragraph. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha! How long you been mounted on sheep?

  • @dorksayswhat Why are you so negative?

  • And I thought I couldn't love him anymore. You freakin' rock!!!!!!

  • Thanks Matt.

    ~Kerrie Chabot

  • His mom wrote that for him

  • "Matt Damon" - Trey Parker and Matt Stone

  • He totally gets it.

  • Boy his mom raised him right - don't make 'em like that anymore.

  • @777whitewave I'm trying

  • Kudos to Matt, his Mom, and all of our teachers. Imagination, Play, and Creativity are the keys to a successful teaching and education. Remember the teachers who made a difference in your life and support the teachers in your community. Be a voice for creative education!

  • Well done, Mr. Damon. And kudos to your mother for raising an intelligent human being. As a veteran teacher of over 24 years, I agree wholeheartedly with your speech and support.

  • Love this man!

  • @DsexLive The rally was in the summer!

  • @DsexLive do your research, the March was on a Saturday. lol

  • @DsexLive You're right. You have a right to be angry at teachers, seeing as how yours failed you horribly as evidenced by your grammar.

  • @lax80684 has anyone called you a douche before? I'm sure I'm not the first!

  • @madjackcamneko You've convinced me.

  • I love teaching. Matt, you are the best. You confirmed for me my desire to pursue teaching.

  • standardise test are so dumb they take up so much time and all it does is make us memorize what people who don't teach decide what we need to learn even though it has nothing to do with what we should learn

  • Thank you so much for joining the work of the teachers in the United States who are really working to take a stance against the "over-testing" in the schools. I am a very happy and proud teacher here in Vancouver! While you are here, look up the work done by The Fraser Institute, to when they ranked schools here. Our school stands up to denounce our top ranking, for its our students who speak for the quality. I plan to send this to the staff as we begin to prepare. It will float our sails.

  • They always make the education debate about the teachers, making them out to be victims. It's not about the fucking teachers it's about the students and their education!

I went through the American public education system, and everything he just said is bull shit. The fact that everyone is cheering him on goes to show this rally wasn't about the kids and their education, it was about the teachers and their job security.

  • Amen!!!!

  • I wonder how likely the massive school cheating scandals that have been covered in the news recently would have been if there weren't such a huge emphasis placed on student's test scores? For those who aren't familiar with the stories, just do a Google search on "Atlanta Philadelphia school cheating". The really sad thing is that this is probably only the tip of the iceberg.

  • @MNgeneralfinance I did have a choice & was able to send my two children to a private school for a couple of years. They & I had more issues with bullies, uncaring teachers & parents with attitudes than when I switched them to public schools. They are happy A & B students that are very much into their school activities, classmates and go the extra mile...all inspired by their public school teachers that have been so amazing to them. Parents, teachers & communities have to learn to work together.

  • @mcbankergirl73 And that school will go out of business if enough parents agree with you and withdraw their children. If it was a bad public school it would get more funding and not punished.

  • As we all know, teaching is one of the most important jobs in the world. Tragically, one of the most unappreciated and certainly the most under paid. Let's go back to when this truly all changed - when "respect" left the classroom. The majority of teachers I've had, including college, taught because it was "their" passion. Many spending their own money on educational tools for their classrooms. I agree with JDoyle1179, well said. A special thanks to Matt and his mother for caring!!

  • 6:12 well i guess she answered that

  • Comment removed

  • Lawd help us when the generation that had to live with that crappy way to teach become adults. It's already happening. I totally agree with Matt and also wish "critical thinking skills" were taught in junior high or at least high school.

  • FORGOT, MY BAD... He is just a HUGE bag of shit celebrity that "think" he knows what he is talking about, and of course, has no clue. Millions of dollars will mess with your head buddy...

  • Merciful heavens, our public education system is a jewel in our society, and like Matt Damon, we have to speak up for it and support our schools. My grandfather was a school trustee, my great-uncles and aunts were teachers, my mother was a teacher, I was a teacher and my daughter is a teacher.

  • I love this. Matt Damon has always been brilliant before and is even more admirable after this. .my sister is one of these teachers that are undeniably passionate about her students, and I would hate to see her & every other credited teacher taken for granted and disrespected by our own government & nation. So thank you for everyone's positive thoughts & comments. You're passing the word!

  • Teaching is the most under-appreciated profession in this country. Anyone who thinks they make too much money, try this: You take 30 kids and supervise them for 8 hours a day, disciplining them and preparing them for the real world. Then spend your evening grading papers and preparing the next day's lesson plan. Then do it all over again. Teachers should be given all the fucking money they want.

  • oh man, what i'd do to see matt damon!!!

  • These people are defending my kids educational future. Thank you!

  • @yourtuber8541 suck a dick

  • @Southparker100000000 Your parents must be proud.

  • @yourtuber8541 You should've died in the marines you waste of carbon.

  • @Southparker100000000 I should have, but didn't. Challenge completed.

  • @yourtuber8541

    Save our Schools!

End the Progressive Union's Strangle Hold and END the Gov't MONOPOLY!

Bring REAL competition & REAL consequences for success AND failure!

  • MAAAT DAAAMUUHHNNN....

  • I love this!! Thank you Matt and your mom too!!!

  • "The next time you encounter some simple-minded, punitive policy that has been driven into your life by some corporate reformer who has literally never taught anyone anything.....please, please, please know.....that there are millions of us behind you." Well said, Matt. It's the God damn truth.

  • NO Child Left Behind has made teaching to the test a priority....Nice job Bush

  • Ok, sure standardized tests have been around for ages. They may guage progress, OR(novel concept), they may guage how well a kid takes a test on any given day. Regardless of either, they shouldn't be used as a means of acquiring funding for public education. They do NOT prepare kids for the real world. If you don't like the job that teachers (like me and every other hard-working, dedicated teacher I know) do, I challenge YOU to try it for a year. Stop complaining, and do it better.

  • @JDoyle1179 Exactly!

  • Why didn't they become teachers in the first place then?

  • After 3 summers of jobless recovery, there are now many unemployed professionals more qualified to teach than the current crop of teachers...

Public employee pension funds are going broke and they want more money without any opposing negotiators on the other side of the bargaining table?

Public schools are a union of the voting public, the teacher unions are extortionist thugs who do not care about education.

  • I think teachers need more support, but I also support standardized testing. There are problems of course, but like capitalism and democracy, what better way is there? Nobody should be using the test's existence as a reason to teach to the test, or to punish schools or teachers or students for low or decreasing results. The results need to be analyzed taking into account the context affecting the students and school, not measured against arbitrary expectations.

  • @rg0057 Good point. I think the way they are used is a joke, but they can at least give you some information on where a kid is. They should not be used to funding as they are now. Schools need the $ so they do what they have to to help their kids score well. It doesn't matter if they understand the material, only if they can figure out how to mark it correctly on the test...and forget learning about current events. They aren't on standardized tests, so they don't matter.

  • All I can say is find the cheapest private school you can find.

  • 1:49, he has a huge ass, man. :D

  • :)

  • matt damon is soon becoming the george clooney of his generation- a fine actor and great public activist

  • As a student. The standardized tests that we take for the state and county. Are easy as hell. If a student cannot do it, it is their fault because of a lack of will. Teachers shouldn't be blamed for this for the lack of will from the kid but honestly. Some teachers I've met are just garbage. It takes teachers help to do well too, and some teachers don't put in that much effort. It is not hard to teach kids to do well on these tests, it doesn't restrain them from creativity. Teachers are lazy.

  • Comment removed

  • You say teachers are lazy? Go fuck yourself.

  • @pdrap Some are, it's just the truth.
