For those of you who played Quake, Quake 2, and all the innovative awesome mods that came out for those games, what do you play now? I'm pretty disillusioned with the horrible slow paced "realistic" variety of shooter that's out right now.
I can't beliefe that almost 15 years are gone since I played the hell out of Quake. Theses days, I kinda lost the urge of gaming, but sometimes play Battlefield Heroes.
those who don't are younger kids, spoiled by flashy graphics and mundane fps war/tactical clones. they have no respect for the classics that spawned today's stagnant games.
Talk about old school, I remember seeing ranger gone bad and thinking nothing would top it... then this came out! and set the standard for a true quake movie. "Screw floppy discs we're gonna use zip discs!" ROFL so true
Classic. I was hoping to see this on YouTube as the original files are hard to find. Some other classic Quake machinima movies are "Ranger Gone Bad", "Operation Bayshield", and "Devil's Covenant".
I decided to search for this after watching Braveheart on TV today. I'm pretty sure this was the first serious big effort machinima project. There were a few earlier ones of small scale but this was the big one. Used to ang with the creators of this back in the 90's on Efnet #quake
@RaptormanMT HBO, I think. At least I think that's how I got HBO.WAV in my directory of sound clips — I'm pretty sure I extracted it from the .pak back in the day.
Rememeber the Voodoo graphics cards? Glide was awesome, it made Quake like uber awesome, smooth graphics and spectacular lighting (at the time)!

The opening music was from HBO. They played that music before they started a big movie.

Urban Terror is a Quake 3 Arena mod and is free to DL and play and no longer requires Quake 3 Arena to run it.
Big community and plenty of servers.
Just google Urban Terror.. Top search result.
It is not as fast as quake but it is pretty fast.

@CrispyExtra I play QuakeLive, I can finally use the excuse "but it's a 'casual' game!" so I can defend my spending way too much time on it :D

This movie is epic.
It was a good time. Rocket Arena, clan wars, Q2CTF and Action Quake. And fun mods like AirQuake. Anyone remember that?

The first real machinima of quality!
Yes, that's right.. as apparent by this video, machinima didn't start in Halo.

Amazing piece of machinima history. I remember watching this back in the day, between the Team Fortress games. Pure nostalgia.

@dfa548
Somehow Youtube knew - it's one of the videos on the side, the old HBO movie intro theme. Check out "HBO April Fool intro."
Classic...I knew I recognized it when I heard it, and I didn't even really watch movies on HBO. Unforgettable theme.

@dfa548 I think that was the HBO music that played with a flashy graphic introduction before new movie premiers on HBO
