They quit the race because their was a restriction that said that the max cc was set to 450. However KTM got a dispensation.

Dakar is all about consistancy and reliability...steady wins the race. I love Honda (I ride an XR) but the combination of sick assed riders who can go the distance and a reliable high performace racing bike win the day at Dakar

This is from the 2005 Dakar rally. Andy Caldecott is riding the green KTM number 23. He won this stage and finished 6 overall. The Repsol bike half way through the video is number 6 Marc Coma.

Anyone who knows squat about motorcycle racing knows what Repsol is. Obviously you need a pointer.

Repsol is a Spanish gas and oil company. They sponsor some of the big names in motorcycle racing. They're just a sponsor, not a motorcycle manufacturer.

Pause the video at 1:27. The motorcycle at that time is the Repsol sponsored bike being discussed. Black, yellow, white stripe, red. Across the white strip it says REPSOL.
