  • This Quattro makes any muscle car look like a little girl's toy.

  • From zero to holy shit in 2,1 seconds.

  • does anyone know what kind of blow off valve these things have?

  • Why did they have to get rid of group b? :(

  • @0okk Because it was flawed (safety). I'd rather ask why Group S* was buried at the same time.

    * Btw, contrary to a popular belief, Group S wasn't going to be Group B's even more monstrous brother. Even before the deaths in 85-86, limiting engine power was one of the key points besides other safety improvements.

  • @deggis4 It was rhetorical, but you're right. It was just crazy! Magnesium wheels, magnesium panels, even a fibreglass rollcage!

Cars now go for more speed around corners instead of grunt. Heck, group A and WRC are getting closer together everyday! Especially with WRC cars having new specs next year.

  • @0okk WRC cars should have no eletronical devices at all. Only Man and Machine pushing the limits

  • superb, the sound of the S1 was simply mad! (as memory serves me correctly) .? :)

  • @morph318 ... today's normal road RS6 sounds like a spaceship if driven betwen 4,000-7.000 rpm, gearshift is amazing. so brutal.

  • Helmet : check, Group B rally car: check, Third testicle: check

  • FANGIO ?

  • watch?v=MqBx8bhAjqU <--- worlds fastest audi?

  • does it have an anti-lag system or something on it's turbos? it sounds like angry chipmunks on the waste gate

  • spank that motor.

  • At 1:07, Walter presses a button. It then quickly shows the clutch pedal moving up and down. What's the purpose of this since, as we can all see, he's using the clutch pedal the traditional way (using his left foot)?

  • @deepmelody1991 i thinks its so when he lets off of the gas the clutch is engaged. good for e-brake/ (clutch kicks)

  • @deepmelody1991 The button is on the gear lever, thus enabeling him to change gear with clutch without taking his feet of the brake and gas pedals.

  • Am i one of the few who think this is SCARY AS HELL :O so fast..

  • This car is a real monster. Well, there are cars on track today that could beat the performance by a twinkle. But back in these days, this car was unique. All new techniques, all wheel drive, the sharpest look. And the turbo sound of the 80s era. What a mess these a4/a5/a6 are.

  • Hehe der Könich - Meine Arbeit zu machen! eine Maschine is der typ Perfekt in fahrerischer Hinsicht

  • total badasses

  • Perhaps not too relevant, but you forget Senna!

  • it just looks so wrong to see a tiny peugot with that waaayyy oversized wing :D

  • @gijsjeradijsje10 That's an Audi... >_>

  • @n3xxxxx I think he was referring to the peugeot at 0:38 ;-)

  • @gijsjeradijsje10 your Peugeot is an Audi quattro with more than 500 PS !

The wings were very important for keepin the car on the track.

  • @VelvetViolator I think he was referring to the peugeot at 0:38 ;-)

  • Oh my god :O

These drivers had balls of carbon fibre!

  • @DRworksHolland most rally cars have that now, its for clutch "kicking" mid turn

  • This is why we love fast cars. There is nothing better then hang on for dear life and drive as fast as you can.

  • the quattro should so be bought back

  • But can they drive in a circle? lol

  • whats happening whit the clutch at 1:06? is that a unclutch button on the gear lever or is the clutch pedal reacting to the accelerator?/

  • @DRworksHolland The first.

  • walter röhrl is the real schumacher

  • holy shit that sound just rules!!! (the negine...)

  • @lukthere2 It's an inline 5 cylinder, DOHC, 20 valves and a huuuge Turbo. They have a very unique sound. I love it too, i drive an old Audi 5-cyl myself :-)

  • This requires a 3rd testicle.

  • this is courage, skill and technical brutality at its best

  • The real Drivers !!

  • Formula 1 Rally

  • wie auf schienen fuhr das auto da rauf..... aber dass er am steuer saß war natürlich nur nebensache;);)

  • Batman must have loaned them the wing off his car. LOL

  • who knew group b drivers could drive on dirt roads

  • According to rally experts, modern WRC cars are quite a lot faster over a rally stage(and much faster on very twisty stages), BUT Group B cars would win a straight line speed test. All who think that Group B is a lot quicker, just think about it: has the suspension/tire/engine/aerodynamic development been on standstill for the last 25 years?? I think not....

Porsche 917K is one hell of a fast Le Mans racer, but Audi R8(LMP1) would still beat it quite easily.

  • @PlatoTacitus same goes for supercars top speeds may be lower now but track speed is faster

  • @PlatoTacitus ok then compair it 2 the escudo pikes peak. i think that will beat a wrc car quite easily.

  • @PlatoTacitus Of course. Compare lap times at this year's Le Mans for example, of the Jaguar SilkCut and Porsche 962 vehicles taking part in the historical race to those of the Peugeots and the Audis. The modern cars beat them by an enormous margin, though quite levelled on power, due to suspension/tire/engine/aerodynamic development as You said.

  • the lord of the rings.... The king of racing... AUDI!!!

  • I bet this car would beat any of today s wrc cars. I would like Audi s return to the WRC.

  • @123HAKKO

Unfortunately Group B is too fast, and yes they will still beat them as the WRC are a completely different and gay class, there is no such thing as a real rally anymore.. its too commercialized

  • beaut ! Rohrl youre a legend

  • If you disliked this you're either Ari Vatanen or just an idiot.

  • the best cars an the best drivers are from europe

  • @aujudis Only the Europeans agree with you. ;D

  • @aujudis give my regards to the Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak

  • @aujudis

Tell that to those rednecks that think some insanely tuned 60's musclecar with a giant supercharger and superwide dragster slicks beating a Porsche of Ferrari in some pointless dragrace is proof enough they have the best cars and drivers.

In the real world driving doesn't just take place on dead straights for 400 meters.

Hm, I also must say that South America has produced many great drivers. For instance Senna from Brazil and Fangio from Argentina. Fittipaldi, Piquet, DeFerran etc

  • @Metallicakicksbutt That is a stereotype that rings less and less true every day. Americans arent just into Drag racing and NASCAR. The rednecks are just the vocal minority..........y'know the little dog that yaps and barks like hes going to rip yer head off while the big dog just laughs and lets him have his fun.

  • @aujudis Too right

  • @aujudis Ever heard of Senna? ;)

  • @aujudis overall the best drivers are from europe , however , the best driver in History came from Brazil , may he rest in peace

  • Im surprised the fucken thing didnt break down , AUDI's the most unreliable cars in the world, maybe thats why it did well here , it only had to last 11minutes. I test drove a A4 B6 SLine Quatrro yesterday , must be the most over rated car I have ever been in , Talk about gutless , no headroom, 2 adults in the back and you have your legs up round your ears to fit unless your 5ft tall.

I'll stick with Austrlian sized cars , standard 195kw and 5 people fit in them without issues.

  • @BrianDewy LoL mate .. you compare apples to bananas ... what the hell does the A4 street car with the Audi Sports Quattro to do? They have NOTHING in common, except the name Audi ...

Group B cars were built only for the one purpose, to RACE ...

Not even today's racing cars have much in common with the street cars, wearing same name ...

To compare the S1 Quattro to A4 is like to compare a fighter jet to a Cesna ...

  • @RRT3am I wasnt comparing it to a race car at I was making a generalised statement that AUDI are unreliable and over priced and the fact that they actually have some performance is the fact that they are small cars , to small for the average family of 5.

  • @BrianDewy I do not disagree about how reliable AUDIs are, or if what you get for that money is enough or not ... in these points we actually agree. I do not want to start with the problems that my family and relatives had over the years with AUDI, and that in Germany ... only few km from Ingolstadt away ... but that is not the point here.

Your comment about the Sports Quattro was just absolutely wrong, cause no matter how Audis today are, that time it was different ... and the S1 is pure beast

  • @BrianDewy logic isn't really your thing, is it?

  • @VladBlok28 And your obviously some useless Canadian cunt who knows nothing about the subject. Im surprised being Canadian you can actually even make a response, climb back under your rock fuckwit

  • @BrianDewy I've never even been to canada, so another score for you being a dumbass

  • 405 still went quicker

  • @lostwill86 the 405 that made a run on Pikes peak was built ONLY for that reason! ;)

  • @lostwill86 the two 405T16 Gr B that were built, were one for the hillclimb one for the paris-dakar ... none of them was rallying in the world rally championship ... the 205T16 did that ... the Pikes peak run for the 405 was 1988 ... Gr.B was officially dead already ...

The Sport Quattro GrB is the car that WAS rallying in the WRC ...

  • @RRT3am yes man i do know just making point, pugs rule

  • @lostwill86 sure man, was without bad feelings, just posted for people do not know ..

  • Walter showed them how to climb that hill!!!!

  • Der Walter ist der beste!

  • the group b lancia delta s4 would beat the quattro

  • @gumby1008 LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

    NEVER EVER XDDDD

  • @LukaZ0001 hey just coz it burst into flames

  • @gumby1008 Honestly, at Pikes Peak it would be close. Remember that on the WRC circuit, you're not going to get stages as suited for the Audi as Pikes Peak is: i.e. flat, fast, and wide enough. In most rallies, the Audi was just too big, however at Pikes Peak it was perfect.

  • why does'nt AUDI race any more

  • @Trema13

Because people complained in other race teams that they couldn't beat them....

So audi gave them the finger and removed support of factory teams.

You will only see them compete in the lemans and a few other lower key events nowadays....

    All because haters just hate.

  • @Trema13 cause of the crash when the RS200 crashed in the crowd in 1986 audi quit from Group B rallying permenenly sorry forthe spelling

  • People who say NASCAR requires no skill are ignorant. Stock cars are unforgiving, you have to push them right to the limit or you loose. If you push it a bit too far and break traction its over. No sliding, drifting, wobbling, cutting the corner like you can with a balanced car with independent suspension. and trophy trucks are better then rally cars.

  • @bmaysS01 LOL ... that was some really ignorant post ...rally requires much more skills than NASCAR, though in rally there is no danger that the car next to you will crush you to the wall or whatsoever ... controlling speed and grip on TRACK cannot even be minimally compared to doing it on mud. gravel, snow ...

trophy trucks are better thAn rally cars? I gotta see them trophy trucks ... must be out of space ...

  • This Sound <3 ...

  • yeah nascar is so boring and they complain about fuel shortages and shit and theres kid dying for anything to eat or drink, america is a joke.

  • @sumsha0000

People tell us not to police the world, but at the same time They tell us not to turn a blind eye to needy countries.

Me? I honestly wish they would close up the states for about 5 years to everyone outside of it so we can get our shit straight. Let the world deal with itself without us for a bit and see where it ends up.

If you don't like it here then just effin leave dude, no ones gonna stop you.

Other than that, politics = GTFO of youtube. This is car video, leave it at that

  • @sumsha0000 Sell your computer and buy the kids some food. Do you really need to be on the internet making unfounded comments and preaching your hypocrisy. You can live life without your computer but those dehydrated starving kids need food and water. Shut up, Step up and help out.

  • The BOV sounds crazy! Like an angry falcon bird.

  • New times are coming.Man i will miss the smeel of burning petrol

  • Miss old good times:(

  • this year there will be a totally autonomous robot-driven Audi TTS. No driver, no remote control, all compute power and GPS. THAT will be amazing.

  • in my eyes that will be rather boring.

  • what's your favourite then? ^^

  • 2:10

  • Comment removed

  • niemand wird jemals so fahren wie er*_*

  • the best ever.......

  • simply awesome

  • Walter Röhrl is king!

  • @LutherMartinKing where did you find O on the keyboard?

  • after that race. rules for rally have been changed in america and european manufacturers could not compete anymore...

  • The Scandinavian Flick at it's best!

  • man he realllyyyy cut it close on one turn.

  • american cars and racing suck,

    i wanna go to europe

wrc, wtcc, gt, ngt, radicals, cateram > drag and nascar

  • yeah i guess i went a bit overboard...

but u cant deny that most americans dont appreciate this type of racing,

they focus on just making a quick 1/4 mile

    tis quite a sham

  • or doing laps at some raceway....

    boring.

  • American Lemans, SCCA, Formula 1, Indy cars > drag and NASCAR. What's up?

  • many of the contenders in Lemans and scca are imports mostly European and some Japanese,

also most Americans don't even know about those races,

because all they want is a camaro with a jet engine on it going in a straight line or a big truck rolling over smaller ones.

no appreciation for real motor sport

  • A whole bunch of ANY cars on ANY kind of closed track racing against each other is a real motorsport, there little buddy. You're generalizing to the point of absurdity, man, because alot of Americans actually LOVE WRC. And LeMans? What's with the Corvettes, Vipers, and (back in the days) Camaros they use, HUH?! OK, so stop your generalizing because I appreciate ALL motor sports, and fuck yeah I'm American and I don't give a fuck. I win now, so tuck your tail and run away, little guy.

  • how dare you compare american boats on wheels to Europen and Japanees perfectly engeneered fine peices of automotive creativity!!!

YOU SHALL BE THUMBS DOWNED LIKE saintluke87.

(look if you really care about a youtube war send me a message)

  • I think you're mad because our "boats on wheels" can get around a track as fast and sometimes faster than Euro cars. I'm a Euro car guy too, and I actually own a classic Audi/Porsche/VW repair shop and know more about vehicles than any average shop mechanic, alright little buddy? You ever heard of something called a Chevrolet Monza? Yeah, we were smoking Euro asses back in the late 70's on circuits (not ovals) IN THEIR OWN COUNTRIES with the straight-6 turbo Monzas. So yeah, I win.

  • ok fine....

rally, wtcc, gt, ngt, super gt, radicals, cateram, f3000, f bmw + any american car contenders > nascar, drag, monster truck

    happy now?

i still dont consider driving in a streight line or in circles "real racing" which "most" not all, american cars were made for (just look at their crapy historic suspension system).

  • Hey buddy, I mean I love Euro circuits, but we also came up with rock crawling and mud bogging, two very awesome motor sports that have some vehicles with much more than 900 brake horsepower and have near 1,350 foot pounds of torque. Tell me what's not high performance about that?

  • (we really should take this argument to messages) yet...

see thats just the thing, all these american sports only focus on power instead of a combination of handeling/ power/ and and everything else,

    (like "most" their cars too)

theirs much more to motorsport then just putting the biggest engine in a car and drive streight,

it hurts me when i see someone say that mud bogging is better than rallys, when a mud bogger will crash the car on the first turn of a rally,

    or compare nascar to tc

  • OK, do I need to say it again? Indy cars, American series LeMans, American rally (Ford Focus RS, Escort Cosworth, Sierra Cosworth). Really man, we got cars that handle too. You're acting like the only cars we've ever built are RWD V8s, and that is NOT the cae in any sense. And did I say that mud bogging was BETTER than rally? No, so shut your head and NEVER put words in my mouth again. And for that matter, try to get a Subaru rally car through a 6-foot deep mud hole at 2-4 mph. Not gonna happen

  • a Subaru rally car is not supposed to do that, it is built for rally.

  • greatest rally car and driver of all time

  • come on, that is just one car, but europeans and the japs have made, make, and will make good cars in huge numbers. if u guys have only ONE model, that can keep up with european cars on a normal track, then, well, that's a bit too less. japs do way better. and actually, even russians.

  • Even got the SCCA; good man! Where would you rank British Touring?

I DO feel compelled to defend Nascar on one point, however... unlike formula 1, there's a lot of passing. I see that as being Neckcar's only redeeming quality.

  • Dude, those guys are athletes too! Do you realize the punishment those guys go throuhg to win? 120 degree heat for 3-4 hours, doing 200 mph on pavement with no power steering and no A/C, lol. Those guys are as much athletes as rally drivers imo. I love SCCA though :P I'm trying to get a Miata and build it for the Class C Roadster Cup.

  • I probably be around the Class C guys mostly, lol. I like turbo 4 cylinders alot.

  • but you have to agree that in nascar there is not that much how good drive you are as much how strong car you have, on another heand in formula one or any other racing that hase left and right corners depends a lot on how good drive you are. so even if you have slighty less poverfull car but you have good feeling and timing of going in and out of the corner you still can win.

nascar as a race i think it is boring, part that is interesting is when someone fucks it up and then they all pile up.

  • Oh yeah; I would only really consider watching Nascar for the last 5 laps or so... that and the crashes, you're so right about that. I love a good 20 car pileup

  • @1pwNz0mb13Z Then you havent seen top fuel dragsters and funny cars in person... (Nascar Sucks though)

  • @1pwNz0mb13Z WRC is the ultimate shit here in Europe, I absolutely enjoy it :X

  • @1pwNz0mb13Z u 4got lotus

  • @1pwNz0mb13Z and dont forget the gumball rally is more interesting when you cant understand the police after youve been pulled over

  • @1pwNz0mb13Z I can't agree more, Don't forget F1 and JGTC from japan.

  • @1pwNz0mb13Z your aware pikes peak is in Colorado right?

  • @1pwNz0mb13Z WRC used to come to America, but ever since NASCAR bought SPEED we don't see anything good anymore.

  • @1pwNz0mb13Z I 100% agree with you, Nascar is boring as hell! Although I don't mind Drag as much, but I'd much rather do the drifting and stuff.

  • insane waste-gates gee!!! in what psi was it set on???

  • its not the wastegate you are hearing, its the lack of a blow off valve or bypass valve. That noise is the turbo stalling when the throttle is chopped. It most likely is running well over 30psi of boost to get that kind of horsepower.

  • isn`t it waste gates and blow offs same thing?

  • no. the wastegate is a valve that directs the exhaust gas around the turbine to control boost pressure. A bypass valve/blow off valve allows the charge air to escape from the intercooler and plumbing when the throttle is closed. These cars didnt have a bypass valve so it made those crasy screaching noises when the throttle is closed. That noise is the air pressure in the intercooler and plumbing backing up against the compressor wheel and momenarily stalling it. :)

  • So those cars were running on 30psi with no bovs hows that even possible?!?!

  • its not good for the turbo, but I imagine the turbos were replaced so often on these that it doesnt really matter. I live near the ex audi drive John Buffum, and he has one of his old audi race cars at this shop, and it doesnt have a blow off valve either.

  • Nice! Ive heard of him hes a pretty good driver. I have a friend of mine back home he has Lancia Delta S4 and I believe his has the a bov and that one is a f-ing monster too!!! But still tho why your buddy hadn't install one yet? I suppose its not that complicated?!

  • the new rally cars they run have them, but the vintage audis did not. Not sure why, but his car is keeping true to the day it was built I suppose. :)

  • Sure they did. Yeah, the old turbo 5000's and 200's built for the street didn't have bov's or bypass, but they both benefit from adding one. The s1 HAS to have a bypass, audi made it so critical that they have no turbo lag that it would make no sense for them to leave it out. PLUS having that much boost without a bypass could twist and snap the turbo's shaft if the throttle is snapped shut at full boost. Yeah, they skipped it on 10v 165hp motors with 7psi boost, but not the 20v 600hp S1!

  • how much do you want to bet? I will drive over and get a picture of john buffums factory audi. its a well known fact that the s1 cars did not run a bov. this is a stupid argument anyways, the cars were kickass, and thats all there is to it.

  • Germany my friend!!!

  • its was in 87 and not 85

  • Wasnt this actually 1986 or 87? Sure Michele Mouton broke the record in 85? Either way, great video and a superb car. One of the all time rally greats.

  • actually the current b class record is 10:47.22 by peugeot.

  • PEUGEOT 405 T 16!!!!!!

  • The Best Rally car ever made

  • sorry subaru is a car made only for rally so impreza wtrx 06 ftw

  • yeah man rally subarus are sweet!

  • Subaru wasn`t even competing at that time LOL!

  • @Airox2009 Audi Quattro was the first car with permanent AWD, subaru had the PERMANENT AWD in 1987 and Audi in 1980

  • I know, Audi started the AWD craze in group B rally in 1980. Then others like lancia etc started to upgrade too.

  • @Airox2009 what evr happend to the metro in rally?

  • suabru started competeing in the 90s.

  • @cwillb3 Subaru works rally cars have almost nothing in common with the Imprezas you see on the streets ... and Subarus were truly bad the last few years, before they abandoned ... so ... on the street Subarus may be favourite cars of wanna be rally drivers, though in the Championship they did not do much since long time ago ...

  • ur comment is fucking retarded :)

  • Have you even been to America?. . .prick..I guess you could say Fuck America now because Obama is in charge and is making medicine socialized like your country. .

  • dont complaint coz probably you vote for him as well!!!

  • I like 2:10 ;-)

  • European cars > american cars

    :P

  • ford > euro truck and equivalent

euro sportes car > american car

  • what is a euro truck? lol

  • trucks that arnt american..

  • Vatanen is so much better driver than Rohl and rohl admited it just before vatanen overtook him on stage in monte carlo 85. Thing is that 205 t16 was more than match for audis and lancias on winding stages but on pikes peak that is more like riding highway longer and more stabile car is needed and Vatanen got 405 1990 and if Im correct that record still stands on original track.

  • this is the mother of all cars

it beat the shit out of the others

    *****AUDI THE KING*****

  • maybe at pacman, not at racing

  • chink were still riding bicycles when this car dominated....you cant compare evo to this

  • that's strange i thaught that the japanese made the evo and not the chinese, you know seeing how mitsubishy is from japan.

    GOOGLE MOTHERFUCKER USE IT!!

  • who said mitsu is chinese....youre a moron for even starting an arguementw ith me about that...wtf ?

  • you did say chinks, right??

  • yea squint eyes...central/east asians thats what i meant

  • there is no "y" in Mitsubishi...

    GOOGLE MOTHERFUCKER USE IT!!

  • just to correct those that think the peugeot won in 1990, it won in 1988 , This was 1987, Ari in the Peugeot 205 T16 was on target to beat Walter, he was ahead in all the earlier sessions, but in the final dash to the top, the Peugeot had problems which is the only reason the Audi won
