Loved this theme as a kid. I think mum loved Henry Darrow, each time she saw him guest starring in another show , she would say, there's manolito. Lol.
@crocfme.. So so true… everything is so painfully dumbed down now. Especially within the last two decades or so. Its just gets worse and worse… Reality TV has to be the biggest culprit… Cheap to produce, instantly forgettable garbage.
This was one of my favorite shows. I had to make sure my brother was down, and asleep so I could go back downstairs and watch HIGH CHAPARRAL in the dark living room. Everybody else was in bed.
One of the great, great tv themes. Rousing, majestic, unforgettable. When it originally aired I was a grammar schooler and its main appeal for me then was the theme. Now I enjoy the series itself--when I can find a channel that will air it, I mean--because it brings back memories of my grandma, who adored tv westerns and police shows. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for posting this gem! This was a great series and I'll always remember it as it was one of the few programmes transmitted in colour in 1971 when I got my first colour TV. It cost a fortune at the time but watching this series made it worth while......
As a side note. Marta Victoria Moya Burges, otherwise known as Linda Cristal, was also a recording artist as well. She came out with a 45 rpm 7" recording with the Coral Label, Catalog Number 62060, that had two Tracks: 'A Perfect Romance' & 'It's Better in Spanish.' It was released in 1958.
They don't make them like this anymore. Why? I don't know. Maybe the producers and networks had a bit of respect for their viewers back then; these days they take the lowest common denominator, assume everyone has an IQ of 40, and set the entertainment level accordingly...
Whas this never been on one of the classic channels, uk gold, or something come on someone get ya fingers out and lets see this great show again, Big john cannon and his boys, and wow that beautiful wife of his linda crystal victoria montoya cannon
One of the best television show theme, without question, but there are also many others that were just as good or just as recognizable as this one. I wouldn't say this show was the best of the TV westerns, but it sure ranks high with a few others.
Love this show--it was a favorite of my grandmother's, who was a huge tv western fan. Every time I hear this majestic, magnificent opening theme I think of her and our times together--thanks for posting.
if you ever get the chance visit old tucson studios in arizona, we have been a couple of times and the highlight was riding a horse through the high chaparral set. and also seeing where john wayne made many of his films and also sets from little house on the prairie it really does bring back memories

It ran from 1967-71 on NBC, and was created by David Dortort, who also gave us "Bonanza".

Great theme, Great western. I watched it as a kid in the late sixties. I think it was on 1967-1969.
I have the series on DVD, and am enjoying it all over again.
