if you think this song is gay, that little girl is ganna kill you haha. awesome song! and this was a great movie (or show i don't remember it's been too long)
I love this song, although on a strange note, isn't this the song Ted Bundy was listening to in his car when he was caught? (if you can believe all you watch on the gogglebox)

The lyrics aren't entirely correct... the third line is "and all at once I wake up", not "like all at once I wake up"... just thought I'd throw that in in case you want to correct it... other than that, great job here... I remember this song fondly from the 70s... it was always one of my favorites, Partridge Family tune or not... as they probably would have described it on American Bandstand back in the day, "It has a good beat and you can dance to it... ". :-)
I second the opinion of the fan who said the song is fantastic (in 1970, it was #1 - while The Beatles "Let it Be" was rated #6). THank you for providing it & supplying the visuals for lyrics. HOWEVER, dump the shit about 'getting old sucks, doesn't it. It is a peppy song and reminders of deterioration of people will NOT spur younger people to adopt this song, this video or think of the work that you did to be just a sideshow. They will see it as Dated, old fashioned and dismiss it.

One of my favorite songs! LochRaven62, I would have attended Loch Raven High school had my parents not decided to move just prior. I remember going to the Loch Raven reservoir as a kid. And I am still a Ravens fan, 4 states later (former Baltimore Colts fan).
All you youngsters pay very close attention to this video between 1:19 to 1:38 and enjoy your youth. They don't teach you the concept of time in school, it is learned the hard way through getting there and realizing just how fleeting time is. Looking at the two beautiful ladies here it reminds me of a saying... "don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone! They both aged gracefully nevertheless and were knockouts in their day.
We were so lucky to grow up then, and are so lucky to be able to say we love this song!! I'm not embarrassed even to say I love "Little Willy" by the Sweets and Top of the World by the Carpenters. It was a simpler time. I love hearing those songs that are lost to even the oldies stations (which seem to play the same old ones all the time...Unchained Melody, anything by the Supremes, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Imagine, etc. etc. Sorry if some of this got posted twice. I got sidetracked...
At the time I was in 3rd grade so i was maybe 7 years old. I think it is funny when I remember telling the kids in my school that they lived in my area, they would say I was so lucky.
Definitely, being a gay, I consider it a gay song. A gay kid in the beginning of the Seventies, it was great to wake up and switch it on, thinking about coming soon to school with all those boys I was always in love.
I was a child too at this time, and all I have are wonderful nostalgic memories!!! I remember watching The Partridge Family on Friday evenings, and The Monkees on Saturday mornings. Thank you for sharing.
its not gay or peolpe getting old its that the song is so futureristic , i think its my favorite fucking song ,shirly jhones is amazing on these backups on this jesus
I grew up in No. Hollywood Calif and the Partridge Family bus was always driving around my area ( I lived near the studios) I thought they were real and lived near by. I still like this song.
San Diego's Walrus played this as I was driving home, and it actually brought tears to my eyes. First released in the Fall of 1970, I had started as a freshman at Penn State and had only returned from Vietnam about a year earlier. There was a certain young professor who I was reminded of every time I heard (hear) the song. She still teaches there- forty years later! I ought to send her an email with the link, but I'm chicken!
i hadn't heard this songs in years, not since i was six or seven but when my sister played it for the first time in a long time i could sing along because i still knew the words, what a great song
Different songs bring back different feelings and memories, some actually bring you to the day you first heard it, this song does that, nothing bad happening at the time, no worries, no problems, frozen in time forever, what a good song and a beautiful time this song brings me back to, Thanks for posting it!
I don't know why you are so defensive about liking a song....if others hate it, well fck them.....there are many stories to be told about why we all like this song, and isn't that what life is made of?
this song is not gay at all. its one of the most inspirational love songs of all time. i fell in love with my fiancee an this dam song would pop up swimming in my head hahaha. an i was right cause when i went to jail a year later, she wrote this song to me saying she missed me an i never told her about my connection to her an this song :) this song is an forever will be one of the greatest love songs of all time.
People who dis this song are completely missing the musical genius of the composition. This isn't some 3-chord cookie cutter song structure. There's so much harmonic thickness and density in the verse -- diminished and minor chords with a chromatic descending bass line, r u kidding me. That's what makes this song great. It works both as bubblegum pop and textured, sophisticated art. The Beatles, the Beach Boys would have been proud as hell to compose this number. Rock On LochRaven62
A made up early 70's TV band that blows the doors off 99% of all the stuff coming out today. Those were rich times that we sadly (for the most part) took for granted.
David Cassidy hates his years with the partridge family but i gotta tell you they put out some great music. Get with it david you made music to be proud of.
What an awesome time to be a child and having this kind of music on the AM radio! It isn't a 'gay' song, it is a 'beautiful' song. Not like the 'grunge' sounding rock that whines about how bad life is. And looking at Susan Dey in this video reminds me of when I actually felt 'the 'crush' of love for females instead of viewing them with suspicion. Ah, well! Thanks for the upload.
@ArianWhite Obviously today's era listens to all this crap about how "horrible" their completely normal lives are because they've never heard the old, amazing music like this.
I'm fifteen, and I couldn't count the number of <1980 songs I love on my computer's calculator.
Well, I wasn't using it as a negative in my posting, James. I was referring to how some people think it's "gay" (in the homo sense of the word) because of it's gay (in the happy sense of the word) lyrics. So it wasn't intended to be a negative.
But now that you've gotten me started...
If you want another man screwing you in your butthole, that's your business. I, along with others think it's sick and if you get AIDS, don't come around crying.
@Bill, Larry Knechtel played harpsichord on this. I knew he was part of "The Wrecking Crew" and played on a lot of stuff from The Monkees to The Beach Boys and was a member of Bread in the 70's; but did not know until fairly recently that he also played bass guitar on The Door's first album (including "Light My Fire") or that was his piano playing in Simon and Garfunkle's "Bridge over Troubled Water".
It amazes me that a handful of session musicians-Hal Blaine, Louie Shelton, Larry Knechtel, Carol Kaye-were responsible for making such great music for everyone from the Beach Boys, The Grass Roots, The Monkees, Nancy Sinatra, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, The Ronnettes, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Simon and Garfunkel, Elvis Presley, The Jackson 5, The 5th Dimension, The Byrds, and this song, among others; from the Partridge Family.
The song is great and nobody sings it better than David Cassidy but don't knock getting old...I wanted to grow old with my wife but she died young...at 34 in 1989. We were the same age and now I'm 56 and alone for all these years so don't pity those who grow old and the changes in their faces...it's natural and part of life.
I can't believe how addictive this song is!4 times i played this song! The refrain has what i call a perfect harmony in vocals and music.Beautiful lyrics too.Ideal to make a proposition.Thank you.Don't feel ashamed because you love it.I'am 26, i live in Greece and definitely am not gay.I simply love 60's and 70's pop and rock music
@flystelios I like that harmony background too. The first time it comes in with David, the second there's a slight delay before they come in. I groove on that little change. Great tune!
@Drydoc2 what ever happened to your girl Bianca ryan? you know, the one that you and many predicted greatness 4 years ago? the very same Bianca who i stated was overrated to the max.....hmmmm
No....The Armstrong & Getty Show, out of Sacramento, Ca. Somewhere a little over 5 years ago now. Did he do the same kind of thing on the show you are referring to, also?
I like the song.. But I'm looking for another version of this song made in the mid-80's.. the song was sung by 2 look-a-like prostitutes.. a blonde and a brunette. Rock version with a Slash look-a-like guitar player in their vid. He looked soo much like Slash that we actually thought it was him. found a cover sung by Voices of the beehive but NO. In the video that I'm looking for, the girls are walking the streets dressed like hookers. Does that ring a bell??? If so, let me know! Thx!!
(Continued from below) so repulsive, was that David Cassidy decided to call in and complain about their joke. I cannot get the sound of his weenie, whiny, cry baby complaints about the same dumb type of joke that these guys make about all celebrities. Even though I love this song, and I have always felt that David Cassidy is an energetic talented performer with a great voice, I can now only think of him as a cry baby weenie washer.
I've always loved this song. I've always felt that David Cassidy did not find a real band with a composer or 2 as members. He could have gone a lot farther and lasted a lot longer in popularity.
However: I was unfortunate enough, to have been listening to the same local talk show that David Cassidy was listening to, when the co-hosts made fun of him in one of their jokes. I don't even remember what the joke was about. These guys try to make fun of a lot of celebrities. What I found (continued)
"It sucks getting old?" I think they've all aged pretty damned well, considering we're talking 40 years ago. Let's see what YOU look like 40 years from now, asshole.
You guys should check out Less Than Jakes version. In my opinion I think its as good as this but I dont know if you will. Just something to listen to.
This is fantastic love how you put Shirley Jones' ,David Cassidy, Danny Bonaduce, and Susan Dey's pics from young to old in there with the words absalutely amazing.
I love this song the way I love all the Monkees' songs. They're hopelessly dorky, but very good nonetheless. Oh, and what about Bobby Sherman's "Easy Come, Easy Go"?
One Big plus about being old is that we old people experienced that period in time first hand and we knew how wonderful it was, We were there, Yes, It was Wonderful and you would've loved it.
GREAT.... GREAT.... MUSIC..!!

ArianWhite 7 months ago 45
@ArianWhite Grunge isn't the whiny one.. But I get what you're saying.
bwjn2008 7 months ago
@ArianWhite Obviously today's era listens to all this crap about how "horrible" their completely normal lives are because they've never heard the old, amazing music like this.
I'm fifteen, and I couldn't count the number of <1980 songs I love on my computer's calculator.
CommanderRaiden 5 months ago 2
@ArianWhite Stop using the word "gay" as a negative, you bigot.
JamesLM2006 3 months ago
@JamesLM2006
Remember your "Pride"...

@StrawberryShrimp Naw I love it like, despite the cheesiness and everything, but it's just so damn addictive!!

That song was my first single.
I love it !!!!!
Many memories.

The refrain has what i call a perfect harmony in vocals and music.Beautiful lyrics too.Ideal to make a proposition.Thank you.Don't feel ashamed because you love it.I'am 26, i live in Greece and definitely am not gay.I simply love 60's and 70's pop and rock music
flystelios 8 months ago 2
@flystelios I like that harmony background too. The first time it comes in with David, the second there's a slight delay before they come in. I groove on that little change. Great tune!

Even though I love this song, and I have always felt that David Cassidy is an energetic talented performer with a great voice, I can now only think of him as a cry baby weenie washer.
richardmumolo 9 months ago
@richardmumolo
Are you referring to the Mark & Brian show in the late 80s?
EtoilepourDavid 9 months ago
I've always loved this song. I've always felt that David Cassidy did not find a real band with a composer or 2 as members. He could have gone a lot farther and lasted a lot longer in popularity.
However: I was unfortunate enough, to have been listening to the same local talk show that David Cassidy was listening to, when the co-hosts made fun of him in one of their jokes. I don't even remember what the joke was about. These guys try to make fun of a lot of celebrities. What I found (continued)

I love this song the way I love all the Monkees' songs. They're hopelessly dorky, but very good nonetheless. Oh, and what about Bobby Sherman's "Easy Come, Easy Go"?

@johninis Yes, sometimes the song's dorkiness actually makes it more endearing.
