Why does everyone keep saying they were landing? Manhattan very rarely gets air traffic overhead. JFK specifically diverts traffic AROUND Manhattan...and has been since the 70's. Thats why people knew it was wierd on 9/11 when the 1st plane came in...they all, at first, thought the pilots had malfunctions with their equipment.
