In the begining, I had to actually use my right hand to place my left hand fingers onto the proper frets. After a few days of practicing this way, the fingers on my left hand began to move the way I wanted. If you are having trouble getting started, don't worry, it will come. Wonderful tips Marty!
@patsyohulaghan what I did to fix tht is i barred across the metal part or jst behind it . So you cant see the metal bit . Then it sounded fine with a little pressure !
I can't seem to get my G string to make noise and it is extremely frustrating. I've been trying to learn barre chords for days and I can get a Bm barre chord, but I can't get something like a G#m. It's always that one damn G note. Someone give me advice. =P
Hey there! I had same problem as you. If I got it right, your G string doesn't ring out while playing E shape minor barre chords, right? If so, try moving your first finger up and down a bit. Mine sticks out quite alot above the fretboard in order to make this G string ring. I wouldn't care that much, but note on G string is what makes these chords minor :/ Good luck! I hope it hepled.
Oh lol. I couldn't see grassrope's comment, as well as Over1ord's. :P Sorry guys, take care. (And I wanted to write "helped" not "hepled" of course ;p
Let me say to andio9292 that the guitar can make a HUGE difference ... I almost gave up after 1 month of trying to learn because my hand hurt, but i started taking lessons and my teacher told me that this old guitar I was trying to learn on was a "classical" guitar with a wider fretboard.
Hell, I didn't even know there wasn't a "standard" width board... So I got a different acoustic and it made all the difference...
oh wow im getting better! but i have a guitar which has a wider fret (the thing wer you press your chords) and i was just wondering if i bought the wrong guitar for playing certain songs. can you put up a tutorial on all about guitars and what to buy, how to take care of it or any tips which would make yourself look like a pro! (excuse me from the last part)
Thanks again marty. God ive been tryin to ger barre chords down for a while and i even tho i can play them correctly (all the strings ring out) i cant use em in progressions without droppin the rythym. I know theres a whole world of new music once i get these down. God this is frustrating :-/

Great job Marty. I'm a guitar noob so barre chords are indeed a hurdle for me.
Not to gripe but shouldn't you have explained what the Bm barre chord is to those who are complete beginners?
