classic propaganda cartoon. This was shown on a movie I was watching called "Eye of Vichy". It showed newsreels that were shown in Vichy and Occupied France from 1940-1944.
The allied supreme commanders sent over 2,000 bombers to flatten half of Caen, France to root out the massive German military presence which killed many French citizens during WWII in early 1944.
I have the documentary this was taken from- Eye of Vichy- which I picked up at the Holocaust Museum. Eye of Vichy is excellent- I had always wondered about the history behind this little short- now thanks to feiiskim I know. Thanks for telling us.
I enjoyed watching Eve Of Vichy also, it was very enlightening. There was another documentary I saw done by the French in the 70's with many interviews from occupation survivor's, one lady liked all the "handsome" German soldiers during the occupation, I don't think she was the exception either. The Allies had to walk a tightrope with the bombing on French soil, worried about more French collaboration then was already happening. Thankfully the Nazi's were the more evil to the French eyes.
The movie you're mentioning must be "Le Chagrin et la Pitié" interesting but a bit biased in favor of left-wing resistance. Regarding the lady who "liked all the "handsome" German soldiers during the occupation", I've heard similar remarks out of the memory of women who were teenagers at the time. That does not mean they were pro-German (at leat one of them was Jewish, and two others were in resistance groups). They were just young women with eyes!
You have to appreciate this film for it's gripping dark humour.... I won't support it in anyway, but hell.... The person who made this (if what feiiskim says is true) doesn't. If feiiskim is bullshitting, it is still likely it was made by somebody who wasn't completely willing.
Thing is, it's well paced, timed, and effective. It got a huge rise out of my history of animation class.
Heh. Donald Duck Bombing France. That's Priceless. That ending could be sad, if done right. The cartoon does it's job.
Also as said before, I doubt the french, for hte most part, were willing. It'd be like if we invaded Spain for no apparent reason, with an superior army, navy, and all that. They'd kinda be forced to surrender I think, that or just all die. (Spain was just the first country to come to mind.)
Raymond Jeannin is French and was my grand Father. He wasn't antisemtic at all.He was forced to make it otherwise the Nazis would have closed his little animated studio that he had so much pain to create(he was half blinded when he made it,became truly blinde at 49),His wife and his daughters would have probably been hurt and he might have been killed if he had refused to make it.His futur son in law(my father)was arab.If you wanna see his best shot please check for title "La nuit Enchantée.Peace

Haha easy to speak for the British hidden behind the channel.
That's what you did in all your wars, you let your allies do all the fight while you are hidden behind the channel. When you allies are defeated you criticize them (always hidden behind the channel) but when they win you claim the credit and the victory for yourself.
@Freez57fr Shame on france you vichy cowards!! our American bombers should have raised france to the ground for turning on the allies!! after what you did france should not say anything to us let alone insult us.
Hahaha asshole we never turned on the Americans...
Because you were hidden behind the ocean and neutral in 1940!! You were not an Allied, you were only a stupid neutral country always waiting that the others do all the work to come at the end and claim the credit (typically anglo-saxon)
You came at war only because Japan and Germany declared war on your country (and not the contrary) 3 years after the beginning.
@Freez57fr by the way my last comment is debateable BUT what is not is the fact the russians did NOT beat the nazi's the russian winter did................ if it wasn't for the weather the nazi's would of took moscow with a snap of their finger AND then they would of been real contenders for world domination. If the germans would of got russia they would have had access to our back door and so much power i dont know if we could of stopped them.
They didn't natoman, I doubt anyone "Wanted" to surrender to Germany, (Well the French Nazi party maybe) But they had been out flanked and most of their useful equipment was captured. Sure they could have ketp fighting... But they would just be annihilated.
@Freez57fr what you are is cowards, just because the brits stick up for their friends you call them lap dogs. call them all you want but it just shows that you french really want to be america's friend. you want us to like you and not mock you so you try to put the brits down for sticking up their friend. LOLil say it again you vichy french are pathetic at best. The british kicked france's ass in america, canada, india, and in napoleonic wars and you say they hide behind the channel.

Paris in the 1940's occupied by Nazi Germany was cleaner, safer and more French than Paris occupied by Morocco in 2008.

---> Thanks for confirm that the British always hid behind the Channel.
The 2 only wars won by GB over France:
- they beat us in America and India (ratio 1 French / 5 Brits) because we were fighting the Prussians on the continent (7 years war).
- Napoleonic wars: the Brits kicked us... to the last drop of Austrian, Prussian and Russian blood.
