  • "That's right Cindy, it's 23 minutes past the hour. And now here is The Buckinghams with..."Kind of a Drag!"" *plop*

~Topper Harley (Charlie Sheen), Hot Shots: Part Deux

That's how I know these guys, the quote above.

  • hey music is not a static form it grows and moves and breaths it is alive a thing of wonder some forms of this life can be strange odd or harsh to the ears of those who hear it but that is music so to the computer it is all produced by man meaning us so we should not compare yesterdays hits with today fails or so they seem, it is just more to it then oh that is not good music or that is bad music that is the nature of music so says the dog woot woot

  • kinda of a drag ! always recall i got dumped and this song came out

  • one of the all time faves from a day gone bye when you could understand what the hell they were singing. really miss

  • It used to drive me nuts even as a young kid...WHERE ARE THE MICROPHONES

    ????

  • They played this live for the fist time at our Youth Center the wekend before it was released.

  • My birthday song apparantly.

  • Long live the 60's! You got that right, what a statement, right to the point! (funny too) Music now is so nauseating, you can't even listen to it! I know we're all wishing these days and the music never left, ya know we were so happy and fortunate to have it then, nothing competes with it! Peace + love,

  • Before reading the comments (many of which are hilarious), I didn't even notice the lack of drums. They could have put him more behind the keyboard guy and spared him some embarrassment, lol.

  • Wow! I was in the 9th grade, I think they refer it to freshman now. Debbie Lewis and Ralph McDaniels were dating. Love this music, this era, brings a lot of great memories.

  • Brings back the happiest times of my life....high school and college years. The world was young, the music was great. Life seemed like a never ending journey, nothing would ever change. Boy was I wrong!!

  • I'm an old person. *make a reminiscing comment*

  • Those were the days, speaking of which...........

  • These guys are HOT!

  • This video, though nice to see, is nothing compared to my memory of seeing them live in Schenectady, NY in 1967. They opened for the Beach Boys. The place was electric, and they had a unique sound at the time. I went to see the Beach Boys, but came away remembering the Buckinghams instead. They just had such a good stage show. No drag.

  • I love tripped-out background vocals. Lennon was a master at it (e.g. Lady Madonna, When I'm 64, etc.)

  • Rewind ones life by music...

  • Kind of a drag when right before you go onstage you found out most of your drum kit still hasn't been found and all you can do is wing it with what you've got

  • @Rusfi10 I think I just died of laughter!!!

  • @Rusfi10 Nice observation. You must've been there. The cameraman does his best to block it out though. Funny stuff.

LOL. The poor guy is literally standing there with two drumsticks drumming the air. LOL.

  • Oh, MUSIC!: How I've missed you!

  • Comment removed

  • Watching this video is definitely not a drag.... ; )

  • Love the Buckinghams! They had some really great songs.

  • I walked to school singing this all my freshman year....great memories indeed!

  • Great song. Wonderful backing - very Beatlesque and yet very much its own sound.

  • Man, there was nothing like the music we had in the 60s. I get so nostalgic and sentimental listening to music from that great time. Great memories.

  • I remember in those days sometimes a group would come out with a token drum set, just a snare drum or something, and it was so dumb looking, like hey, make an effort to disguise the fact that you're just lip synching. Having said that, great song.

  • Kind of a drag when you listen to today's music and wanna cry. I would listen to this song a million times for free rather then be paid every time I heard a Lady Gaga song or something similarly bad.

  • @BestMusicTaste Can not agree more To watch these guys it's pure musicality not he Gaga show crap 60's music has never been matched

  • No mic's ,cables or drums for that matter but they do a good job!!

  • They are Italian Americans from Chicago? any way the lead singer is hot

  • ABSOLUTELY ONE OF THE BEST..

  • I was a teenager during the '60's. It was thre greatest period of my life. The music was simply incomparable to the crap they play today. i'm an old fart now...but I'll always have these great memories until they put me in my grave.

  • this band played at my mom's high school, no joke!

  • The music nowadays is kind of a drag.

  • @Polyglot05 lol

  • If your baby don't love you and is untrue it sounds like she aint your baby!

  • @evange03 Dealing with that right now!!!!

  • @rockinrowdyjimmyd sounds shitty I'm sorry.

  • @evange03 Go back to your Flo Rida..

  • like the amimals with class

  • I was 10 years old and in 5 th grade when this song was new

on the radio in 1967. I loved it then and I still do, 44 years later!

  • Ah the memories! Use to skate to this song at the old skating rink-Yeah a wooden floor :D

  • all i hear is canada dry when your baby realy thirsty

  • I saw the Buckinghams at the Eastern States Exposition in Connecticut this past fall, met the lead singer too.

  • Beauty clark

  • Back when this song was on the radio day after day, I thought they were singing "Canada Dry". lol

  • what is the lead singer's name?

  • OMG! played this 1,001 times (45 RPM) - plus Buffalo Springfield ... in December, 1966 while painting my bedroom in Grand Haven, Michigan .... orange (!?!) to match my brand new orange shag carpeting - thanks Mom! ;-) ... (even tho she made me promise to paint it white when we moved!) Life was good then and still is! Peace and love from Key West ....

  • @keywestjj Going to see them in Feb along with Hermans Hermits and my fave band, the Grass Roots, which will be bittersweet with the loss of Rob Grill. Had his pics, Herman's, then moved on the Davey Jones all over my walls!!! Like my 9 year old granddaughter had Justin and Bruno Mars. Would never criticize her taste, Music is music and we are lucky to be able to have wonderful musicians........but I would never give up these old bands I grew up with for any thing!!!

  • @BlackSpyder73 Amen, brother!

  • @laser621 Hahah!!! Well.....that would be Sister!!!! lol!

  • @keywestjj --LOL MY MOm made me paint my room orange too--thought that was so funny you wrote that--this song (KInd of A Drag)reminds me of my father ---Peace

  • great voice

  • Where TF are the brass horns?

  • @SkidRowJosephine yes, and where are the cymbals on the drumset , or the wires coming out of the guitars

  • Nowadays, it's "Kind of a Drag" listening to today's talentless musical groups...Dan O'Niallain

  • Yup, on AM radio. On LOng Island it ws 77 WABC with Cousin Brucie! Actually there were more than just the cousin, but they all sounded the same!!

  • Listen to me when I'm speaking cause I know that you've been cheating... classic.

  • AH YES, this song makes me feel young again!! Music that a person could sing along to, especially with that "special someone"!

I feel sorry for todays youth, not much out there that a person can enjoy, get cozy with or play at a wedding .

But, for just a few minutes, I am a young fellow again, I remember this song well, It was played at all the school dances and we sang it Out loud !!

  • @Civitatuccillo that's a stupid comment to make. There are many current songs out there that are fantastic. If you put your record player down for 2 seconds and actually get some knowledge in todays music apart from what you hear on popular stations that 12 year olds listen too you might change your mind. but hey, everyone has a difference in opinion in music regardless of age. I find this boring to listen to - generation thing to be open minded.

  • Two minutes and two seconds, and that about cover it...Nice job, boys!

  • great song---well crafted and sung....unlike the messes playing on the radio now. The 60's was the golden age of R and R song--these songs could be just as sweet as Sinatra--but with the beat of course. Love the organ.

  • Oh wow! I haven't heard this for so long. I used to sing 'Anywaaaaaaay anywaaaaaay .......

  • Written by Jim Holvay.

  • What kind of MORION could dislike this song? It has Great Music, Great Meaning,

and it has a happy tune. Not like the SHIT that they are singing if you want to call it that Today!

  • @sixtiesforever1966 Don't worry about certain kids today---you know what introduces this great music to them? video games like Grand Theft Auto (tons of songs) and movies.. I know that if there is an afterlife, it will feature the music we have enjoyed so much and more music that we can't even imagine now. So go in peace, play your music; you will attract them with honey...

  • thats baseball

  • yeah but james was rejected from the yardbirds before that

  • however the best song of the 20th century has to go with the isley brothers shout check it out on u tube 1959 version.. i rest my case

  • @guido1365 you're so cute !

  • @guido1365 You know, I think you are correct! The best song of the 20th century has to be a love song and the happiest song about being in love has to be this one ! and it is so appropriate for a wedding reception (Wedding Crashers) and for a frat party (Animal House) or any occasion to celebrate being alive and in love. Case dismissed !!!! and thanks for the enlightenment--I truly mean that, Guido

  • after James William Guerico managed the Buckinghams; he took up with Blood Sweat and Tears...then Chicago.....

  • Kind of my first "crush" song....around 2nd grade I think

  • had 2 b there i luv these lads

  • i still luv e4m anyway

  • Pure class.

  • I'm in love with Nick Fortuna all over again, 45 years later! Can we just go back to this innocent, wonderful and rockin' music?

  • These guys still sound great, check them out in the Happy Together Tour, with the Turtles and Mickey Dolenz from the Monkees and Mark Lindsey from Paul Revere and the Raiders... and many more artists fro the 60's..... A MUST SEE

  • I don't think I appreciated this band enough! They are wonderful!

  • 60s emo music

  • What a beautiful song. Always reminds me of my childhood. Thank you for the upload.

  • It's kind of a drag when they overlay pre-recorded tracks onto live performances.

  • any relation to the Fleetmac Buckingham?

  • I saw The Buckinghams in 2005 and 2006 at a Chicago Gold Concert. The 2 founding members Carl Giamarrese and Nick Fortuna were still active with the band, and after 40 years they still have it and gave a tremendous show. These were the days when bands relied on talent not technology.

  • This song hit #1 in early 1967, knocking off the Monkees' "I'm A Believer."

  • what was that wuote from hot shots part deux?

  • i remember when mostly everbody used to have those haircuts.......

  • That is a ridiculously small drum kit... but I guess it's all he needed.

  • brings back so many memories

  • Great tune. I remember it well. Junior High School(some call it middle school). Just getting into R&R heavy. These guys were great. They had a string of hits.

  • Saw them last year in the Happy Together Tour in Mich. :)

  • I remember in late 1960s when bands including Buckinghams, the Flock, New Colony 6, Cryan Shames and others used to play teen dances for a $1 cover charge. Those were indeed the good old days! ☺

  • these lads rocked

  • I'm a grandma now but this song will bring me right back to 1967.I was hanging out with a large group of people(who I recently reconnected with), this song always reminds me of a simpler time being with my first love.Hey Ang, remember????

  • Yes it was! She said she loved me , but she was untrue. Then she said goodbye, and she broke my heart! And I cried. But I'll always love her, anyway! Do you hear me, Nancy?!! Nancy?

  • love how the song features a trumpet, but not a trumpet to be found on stage

  • :-) I'll always love you!

  • Yes, the singer IS cute!

  • @dvbbautistayoutub100 More like hot.

  • @dvbbautistayoutub100 Agreed :)

  • Every time I hear this, I also hear an "89-W-L-S-Chicago!" ID in front of it. The two were tight - all part of the war between 'LS and crosstown rival WCFL...

  • jay and the americans competition!

  • Hey, I'm old, but I saw all the great bands, & this is one of them! Don't buy their greatest hits, as they have a TOTALLY different singer & it sounds like crapola! Buy the original band's CD's instead if you want their true unique sounds! And I do! Love them!

  • FUN BAND! Fun times! Great song...memories!

  • awesome!!! another hot band from the 60s and another smashing hit!!! great post.

  • I used to roller skate to this song every week-end! Thanks for the memories!

  • When you go back and look at these old videos, even though I love the Buckinghams, these, as well as many other bands, were lip sync. If you look close, there are no cords to the guitars, etc., and the song is identical to the recording. But I know they didn't want to get in front of a camera and sound different.

  • AH!!! What memories!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

  • this is back when bands were cute.

  • was on a crap lable usa records before moving on to columbia

  • Poor cute guy! That song took me back to being a kid. Love you guys!

  • I was in high school when this came out.... was in love a cute gal who would not give the time of the day.... this song was her...

  • I wsa in high school when this came out.... was in love a cute gal who would not give the time of the day.... this song was her...

  • Adorable lead singer! Love this song. My parents played it tons when I was growing up :)

  • love this song love this group and yes the lead singer is cute

  • lead singer is pretty cute!

  • Kinda odd that the song was cut at the legendary Chess studios...2120 S Michigan.

  • 45 people with bad taste!

  • I'm only 26, but I first heard this song as a kid (around 5 or 6) when my grandma put on a tape of this in the car - yes, I remember when you plugged in tapes and not ipods to the car radio. Even after all these years, I still come back to oldies because of the hook and melody. I wish new music did that to me.

  • one of my old girlfriends got hit on at a party by the drummer - interesting coincidence, and now a part of history...

  • great mid 60s american song

  • @DontForgetToJog - Yeah, fuck those downers. They're probably wallowing in their misery, as we speak.

  • He kinda looks like the lead singer of MCR

  • I remember hearing this when I was about 7, in 1967..on am radio powered by 6 large D batteries lol

  • @rextrek - I was 10 and I had one of those giant am radios too. Those times are long gone...but what magical memories. I feel sorry for those who will never know them. Be blessed that you do.

  • @globalron I had a pop art white circle one it folded out like a phone and you dialed up the stations lol I miss those times too

  • These are good memories for us and hope many artists produce that same kind of songs in the future. It is good to see how music grows today.

  • que buena cancion que buen video felicidades

  • "And it's five minutes past the hour and here are The Buckinghams with Kind of a Drag *faints*"

Ultimate power over the Internet to the first person who can get the reference!

  • Where's the horn section?

  • @3321MDZ It's in the tape player along with the rest of the song

  • @DontForgetToJog Now that's funny. I agree. How can anyone dislike this??

  • It's kind of a drag, when people dislike videos ^_^

  • The lead singer is gorgeous!

  • I have the 45..i bought 30 years ago then this song was a classic. to me it will always be.. i love it

  • What I keep hearing just before the opening notes of this classic is "89 - W - L - S - Chicago!"

  • @areubaked Keep on Trucking Bro....Were not dead.........Yet !

  • the horn section is also missing in "Midnight Confessions"video

  • the ole invisable horn section huh? they ran off with the drummers cymbal too

  • UH...Where Is the Horn? The "magic horn" in the sky???

  • lol @kd4adv I had to look its true!!!!!!!

  • @meltorment its funny how music evolves....it never stops O_o

  • This is a catchy tune, & I'm a heavy meddle person, it all came from this !

  • Hey, it's the "Purina" Logo on the organ :) lol

  • Got to the them last night in St. Paul, MN. They did a great job performing and look great doing it. Hope I can do something like that when I get to their age.

  • I've always - for my entire life - have liked this song!

"Listen to what I've got to say I stiil love - kind of a drag - I'll always love kind of a drag anyway, anyway"

  • @91dodgespiritrt yes this is great but it sounds like its time for sleeping.

  • A funtastic 60s song.

  • Oh and I just noticed the Hofner bass. I wonder who inspired them to get that? lol

  • This song is so cool :)

  • When I was a kid I though they were singing Canada Dry. I had lyricosis.

  • dude the piano solo is fucken badass

  • JESUS CHRIST is the only only only -one way- to HEAVEN...Reverend Norman Edward Vail

  • I always thought he was saying Alcatraz

  • @nfire4 or "Canada Dry"

  • @nfire4 At least you're honest.

  • This is one song I'll never get tired of. I love everything about it. Background and lead vocals, the horn section, the organ section, just everything! Great, GREAT song!! One of my "never get sick" of songs. When I'm in my 70's if I'm still alive, I will still think this song is great and will bop around to it.

  • The number one sign that a group like this was totally uncool? The horn section.

  • I'm only 39 but, I LOVE this song. Give me 60's-80s music over anything out there today!

    Dawn

  • A great song from a great era.

    Love it.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • really a melodic great fucking song !!!!

  • Great old song as for the one handed organ solo, the other hand would have been in the way.

  • Thank you Bucks.....for putting a smile on my face and a tear in my eye at the same time!

  • Where is the horn section? The song is great, but the horns really carry it. Also the organ melody is memorable and nice, but nothing compared to the organist talent of the Doors to come a few years later.

  • Kind of a sex pot!

  • Buckinghams had one of the best pop drummers!

  • Hot Shots Part Deux brought me here

  • I was in JR High when that song came out! Thanks for the memories!!!

  • GGGGGRRRRRRRREEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTT....

  • one-handed organ solo? what was he doing with his other hand??

  • hermins hermits they ARE NOT>>>>>

  • That's right Cindy, it's 23mins past the big hour, and now here's The Buckinghams with Kind of a Drag - Charlie Sheen (Hot Shots Part Deux)

  • I love this song too! Thanks for the experience.

  • omg i still love this song

  • The Buckinghams were ahead of their time; not as appreciated then as they should have been. Great Group.

  • 45 people are kind of a drag!!!
