An even bigger difference would be if Superman had grown up in a small, weak country that wasn't already a world power, a country that suddenly had a power that could challenge the armies and the nuclear weapons of the mighty -- but only so long as he agreed with them.

A Third World Superman is what I would really like to see.

Now, if Superman had been a barbarian who could stand up to the Romans...but then he'd be Asterix....
