  • I love how the censored the lyrics to take out anything scandalous. Clearly, anything does not go.

  • Slick. assured and totally delightful !

  • i can see why the gays love her, she's flashy and gorgeous. pre kylie minogue

  • It's a shame there isn't any classic movies and talent like this anymore. I wish I grew up in the 50s

  • @snobs There is talent like this around, only she isn't in the movies. She is currently on stage on Broadway in Anything Goes after winning getting her 5th Tony nomination and second win. Her name is Sutton Foster and old pros, in particular, tend to refer to her as the greatest they've ever seen.

  • Too bad wome don't look like that now days

  • This is lovely! It's a pity that people have to find something negative in everything, instead of just enjoying the good! This video deserves only positive comments.Being that analytical will ruin anything! Thanks for uploading! :)

  • After listening to Patti Lupone all this time, I FINALLY can understand what the words are!

  • 3 letter words! I guess in 1956 anything did not go :)

  • she looks like Nikki Cox... or Nikki Cox looks like her :-)

  • Look at those beautiful LEGS of the women!

  • @1962HILTON Beautiful woman... but why "green" stockings? Eww.

  • @lovemesomcumberbunny I think they're suppose to be thin black stockings? They just show up green because of the skin tone and because of the color retouch for the video. But yeah it looks weird... lol. At least her looks make up for it. Lady it hot!

  • @atakkuuuuu I meant to say "is"... "lady is hot".

FFF I should check my spelling before I hit reply.

  • This is NOT Anything Goes.

  • I always liked this song and think it shows off Mitzi Gaynor's many talents. I know the lyrics have been modified over the years but wonder why they changed the lyric "authors use four letter words" to use three words." Four letter words "has much more impact and reflects what this song is all about.

  • @tom2sybil in 1955 there was no way they were letting 4 letter words stay in. think about the many nasty 4 letter words used in the english language. porter's original lyrics for you're the top were significently changed over the years. and in peter pan today the song sung by the indians in the original broadway production, ugga wagga meatball, has been cut entirely

  • Look Ive scene this Anything Goes. THis is not Anything GOes. THis is reworked garage with Anything GOes title

  • Don't get me wrong , I would never buy a CD of Mitzi Gaynor singing, the same as i would not buy a DVD to watch Streisand or Sinatra dancing, but the whole package yes

  • @eonurae Mitzi was a trained dancer, a true professional, dancing since she was 4 years old, Jane Russell and Marilyn wiggled very well, altho beautiful women all they could do was walk around, Mitzi came too late to films, but became the top female act in Las Vegas for years and years. she had the longest ovation at the Academy Awards, was always considered a great talent by her peers, as for Kay Kendal good comedienne, dancer don't think so, its like comparing Frank Sinatra to Cliff Richard

  • @theduchess86 yeah, but she didnt sing well in this video. I would say shes like Britney in what it comes to talent. Britney is also a great dancer, but she cant sing...

  • @pipenissen Mitzi was not a Streisand in the singing dept, but as she matured she became a very good singer, she arrived too late for musical films, , but she went on to be the No.1 female entertainer in Las Vegas etc, and she also made the best ever tv specials, and had the longest standing ovation @ the Academy Awards, and still strutting her stuff today @ 79 years of age, she has had a very successful career and is a rich lady, as Sinatra said when you rolled it all up into 1 she was No 1

  • @theduchess86 Well, i take it you are a fan? I just surf the web and came to this, so i have no relationship tho this woman in any way, so I am just a completely neutral critic. Its just the sound I hear. And it doesnt sound any good! In those days they didnt have voice manipulation computers, but if they had the technololgy they would have used it on her songs, just like they do with todays crappy superstars.

  • @pipen, the great Rogers and Hammerstein, thought her good enough to sing in the biggest musical blockbuster of the 1950s South Pacific, Rogers and Hammerstein had other stars voices dubbed in there musical films, there were many stars that did not have great voices in musicals ie Shirley Maclaine (dreadful) Ann Margret, Debbie Reynolds but like Mitzi, they had that it factor, todays crappy stars can't lick there boots

  • This was released in '56, not '55... ;)

  • @GTvlogOFFICIAL ,

Thanks for the correction !!! :-)

  • Mitzi Gaynor was never one of my favourites. She dances well but she lacks sexyness and that glow that had other actresses when they danced and sang like Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell or Rita Hayworth. The choreography is dull and boring Even in "Les girls" I prefer Kay Kendall to Mitzi.

  • Mitzi is sosososososos beautiful! She's a goddess!! She looks amazing, there just aren't performers with class like her nowadays!!

  • wow what art design and she is effective but it is a relentless updated version that seems more articifical thatn the orginal because of the artifice. Not that it isn't fun but a pity abouit the bowdlerized lyrics

  • You can say what you like about the dance routine, [personally i love it], but Mitzi Gaynor looks good enough to eat here!.

  • The actual release date of this motion picture was April 1956. It was Bing Crosby's last picture for Paramount.

  • That's the worst version on the site, but I must say as a straight man, I find her more attractive than I do Cole Porter.

  • i am completely perplex, did not know that miss gaynor was such a good dancer! she had a extremely good esprit, a very charming personality and it is a shame dad she did not make it to the top actors at this time. how good to hae youtube! thanks for posting this

  • @odysseetheater You think her dancing is good here? Watch her, Ethel Merman, & Marilyn Monroe (performing together!) in "There's No Business Like Show Business). It's actually better than this.

  • @amazinggarrett1 cannot find the described scene, can you send me a link? thanks .. would be interested to look at....

  • @odysseetheater Have you found the clips? If no... 'There's no business...'

    1.'Alexander's ragtime band' by turinethefool

    2.'Tatoo'd'

She's not Ethel Merman, but still not bad...

  • @odysseetheater Turinethefool got the second under a different title - 'A sailor's not a sailor...'

  • Awsome video! Happy Birthday Mitzi Gaynor.

  • The "Single Ladies" video of it's time.

  • so true

  • LOL. Did she change the original lyric about how authors "now only use four-letter words" to THREE letter words?

I can't believe they were forced to do that. I know the original lyric could be taken as a double entendre. But after all, both "Hays" and "Code" are also four-letter words.

  • Youtube critics! Aaaaagggghhhhh! Name a star today that has the combination of looks, dance, acting and singing ON STAGE that Mitzi Gaynor had and has!

  • the combination of Cole Porter's lyrics with Mitzy Gaynor it's just wonderful!

  • I think Miss Gaynor a wonderful dancer and the spirit and joy of this number is a pleasure to see. Also great orchestation..very 50,s style!!. it,s a great example of those great musical numbers, great songs, dresses...etc. I love this number and Miss Gaynor sings really nice, she seems very happy here. GREAT. Carlos

  • It is difficult to over look just how weak her voice sounds, everything else is near perfect. Shame.

  • I love Mitzi but she aint got a thing on patti lupone

  • she squeaked at 1:45

  • @badjeep1 1:45 - 1:47 She does it on purpose

  • Mitzi always did her own singing as far as I know

A fine all round performer who had a successful career beyond movies.

  • She's beautiful and a brilliant dancer, but not much of a singer is she? (i'm assuming its her voice, i know a lot of actresses were dubbed back then)

  • Well, well, Now I find out that the song of the beginning of "Indiana Jones and the temple of the doom" is a version of this of Mitzi Gaynor

  • @pambazo55 This song was written by Cole Porter for the musical titled the same way in 1934 - you may want to take a look and search about this guy - he wrote a lot of aswesome songs that's been sung by the greatest performers. I've got you under my skin, ring a bell?

  • does anyone have a video clip i can see her dancing tap dance wearing tap shoes

  • Try searching for Mitzi Gaynor in "You're Foolin" on my channel. :-)

  • Seen many a better version of this song.

  • When my school did this musical our directer changed this song quite a lot. Haha he added a conga line a drum solo and a thriller dance it was my favorite number!!! haha

  • She certainly had great legs!

  • i hate this version...

  • the singing is a little shaky at times...and they butchered the lyrics. "3 letter words"?!?! what's with that? But..the dancing and the spirit of the number pull it through.

  • it was the times....things were heavily censored/edited. still a good #

  • UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i luv her acting and dancing but i dont like her singing..........this is just horrible and like all over the place

  • This is gonna get thumbed down XD But I like this version a lot more XD It's more jazzy and catchy

  • Thumbs up! Just to prove you wrong! ;) There's nothing wrong with voicing your opinion. And personally, I think both versions are very good in their own way. (Although it would've been nice if a more faithful version of the musical had been made into a film, as well.)

  • @xHeavyMetalPapillonx You're right! AND I yeild to no man in my admiration for one of the most spectacular dancers ever!

  • This is absolutely horrible! What a disgrace to Cole Porter's brilliant song.

  • is it just me or does this number look almost identical to the one in "white christmas"?

  • Really weak vocals, wow. This woman can dance, but she sure can't sing. Shame it is such a great song.

  • You really don't think so?

Wow. I thought she has a GREAT voice xD.

    To each their own though.

  • Dr. Jones! No more parachutes!

  • Pirouettes and tap dancing in heels, I'd like to see Beyonce do that!

  • @gravitas28 Hey don't hate on Beyonce! haha. Gaynor is so talented, top of the class vocals and dancing, but Beyonce's performance with Hugh Jackman shows that she has such talent and belongs on Broadway

  • I'm channeling Gaynor for my next video.

  • oh dear...

  • The dancing's amazing, but i don't think its quite right for this type of song.

and Mitzi Gaynors voice is definitely not strong enough to sing this song.

  • Cole Porter must have been shitting bricks

  • What the fuck happened to the lyrics? "Three letter words"? Haha.

  • This was a remake of the 30s film which had also starred Bing Crosby. When Paramount redid this though it was a different story, and the lyrics had been adjusted for the song due to censorship reasons.

  • maybe the lyrics were toned down, but pretty rad to have guys dancing together in the 50's, even for a few seconds. I LOVE Mitzi!!

  • Could they really not say 4-letter words like in the original lyrics? Wow. The 50's were hell.

They completely took the sting out of Cole Porter.

  • In the 50's, they really didn't understand the concept of "less is more", did they?

  • what's the significance of three letter words

  • They changed the original thirties lyrics ("four-letter words"), which implied cusswords and was too suggestive for the repressive fifties. The "three-letter words" reference was an attempt I think, to change the meaning from "cuss words" to simplistic, or stupid words. It's weird that the earlier twenties and thirties were in so many ways more progressive than the later decade of the fifties.

  • Ohhh I see =) Thanks.

And yes it is strange but things happen that way. If you consider the mid 18th century in France or England raunchy shows and literature were a lot more accepted than at the end of the century and in the victorian period.

  • does she tap

  • Yes, she does. See 'Mitzi & Donald in "It's De-lovely"' on my channel. :-)

  • ...Um, what the hell was wrong with the original lyrics?

  • OK, I really don't like this version. 1) the new lyrics don't work as well as Cole's original ones 2) Mitzi's voice cannot perform it - wrong style of song and she can't reach the notes 3) it's supposed to be fairly sexy, not a showgirl number like this. Original show = 5* 50s versions = 2* The only decent thing is the choreography and filming angles!

  • Don't criticize anything unless you think you can do a better job.

  • LOL, this is the 1950's version of it, so they removed all the naughty references from the original song.

  • Yes, but you know we're all thinking them ; )

  • I prefer the original lyrics, but this version isn't bad.

  • the backround to the play being made is actually because back in the days these were all hit radio songs, so for some reason, they decided to make a play about the songs. these are all random songs and kind of out of place. and they got Bing Crosby to star in the movie

  • The fact that they cleaned up the lyrics amuses me considerably.

"We've often rewound the clock/since the puritans got a shock/when they landed on Plymouth Rock..."

  • hahahahahaha

  • AWESOME HA

  • Beautiful,Talented and GREAT dancer.What a wonderful shape perfect.:)

  • I love her figure. The hourglass figure (at least Mitzi's) is beautiful. Another good hourglass figure was Esther William's in Million-Dollar Mermaid! :D

I can't get enough of Mitzi!

  • AUGH! Mitzi Gaynor and Vera-Ellen are two of my FAVORITE actresses of this decade. :D

    I adore 'em. Yep. :D

  • what does she say at 3:00????

Great vid thanks very much for uploading^_^ <3

  • I think she is saying "Hey, all you cute new Joe's, get yourself up on your toes, and then propose, now anything goes". Set me straight if I'm wrong! :-)

  • that makes much more sense now thank you very much^_^

  • it sounds more like "hey all you jills and you joes, get yourself up on your toes, its apropo. you know anything goes."

  • Good ears! After listening some more, your words fit Mitzi's singing much better than mine. Thanks! :-)

  • i have to say, the play was much better than the movie - despite the movie actually having a plot it was much more lively.

  • all you jills and you joes

  • That makes two of you in agreement so it must be "all you jills and you joes". Thanks! :-)

  • what a talent
