The reason why the hawk didnt see the falcon coming down on him or her is because birds of prey never looks up. They are top of the food chain and and never think noting will attack them from above.... i guess from now on, that hawk better start looking up. hahaha!!

Wow, Antioxidantt, is civil discourse beyond your ability? I honestly interpreted and reported what I observed after several viewings of the clip, and you respond with an aggressive denigration of my fitness to observe and comment. Why would you do that? And that's a genuine inquiry, not a rhetorical question.
my two fav birds dude that red tail was like oh a tree mabey i can nest there lets say hi to the pergrin neighbors the pergrins like get the f*** out of mah house a** hole u mutha f***a
The two views of the strike look sufficiently different that we may be seeing two different strikes. Clearly, in the second one, though the hawk is knocked ass over tea kettle, he rights himself and flaps his wings to retard his fall. The first strike actually looked more lethal—the hawk did not seem to recover as readily. The film was plainly edited, so maybe the two strikes were reversed, so that the second strike here was actually the first. When the hawk recovered, the falcon hit him again.
Pergrines have been clocked at 240 MPH in a dive. That hawk may not have died instantly, but there is a very good chance it didn't live too long after that devastating hit.
@Shadowblood66 You don't know that. If it didn't die right away, it probably had a broken wing at that speed of impact. I'm sure it wouldn't survive with a broken wing.
Morro Bay California has a huge dome structure called well morro rock. On Morro rock, lives a nest of peregrines and last time I visited, a Red Tail showed up and one of the adult falcons did this. It was absolutly amazing to see in person!!!
I love birds! I like Eagle's the best, then Hawks, the Falcons. Eagle's, because they're strong. I mean, Falcon, cannot do much if he doesn't get the altitude, by then, a Golden Eagle would easily catch him... Then Hawks, they're better for how to say... 'wood fights'. More closed fights, not the fights out in the open. They're the strategiests, and then falcons, if they DO get high enough altitude, they could easily kill a Golden Eagle... Imagine the team of these three birds... Amazing!
@TriggerExDude The Peregrine Falcon is one of the most agile and fast birds. It has evolved to fight other birds in the air. Although a falcon is a lot smaller it is much more likely to avoid a big/slow eagle. It's extremely unlikely that an eagle can catch a falcon. Remember, the birds don't just hover in midair and trade blows.
@malenfant21 Yes I know that Peregrines are fast, like really fast. But as I said, getting the altitude takes time. Peregrine is the fastest animal alive, and Eagle is not really fast. Even tho Peregrines do have speed over 300 miles an hour, they still kill their prey only 20% of time... So Peregrine's are better for catching smaller and weaker prey, when it comes to Eagle's, yeah don't mess with them.
@malenfant21 eagles are not slow XD they can reach speeds up to 50 miles and hour and they could catch a falcon, the peregrine is no the only one, plus, a peregrine falcon flying regularly can only go up to 55 mph, its the diving that makes them fast, not the actual flight

The Hawk DID NOT DIE you friggin idiots. It simply flew away after the warning shot. If the Hawk's back was broken it would not have been able to fly and would have fallen like a rock. Man some of you are stupid.
Hawk: oh, there's a new tree, I like it, maybe that can be my favorite roost. Uhh... are those falcon chicks over there? Where's the ma? ........... What's that sou- *Bam!* What the FUCK just happened!?!?
@Herosmashbluehawk It didn't die immediately. It's obviously dead because of this though, from either the impact, the fall, or scavenging animals like crows.
@malvarez1991 A 7 pound animal was stunned, I'm so scared. How bout a leopard killing an animal 12 times it size when the animal is surrounded by 50,000 of his big horned friends?
@plaebslayer Take note of the size as best you can. I have had good luck with the paint job on the head and neck. In general to help identify birds, pay attention to the way they fly- wing beats... fast? short? languid? irregular? Close to the ground? Where do they like to perch?
TheMarc said: "peregrine falcons are the fastest things on earth"
A Peregrine is fast in a stoop, but probably can't do 100 mph in level flight.Consider the white-throated swift. One source says, "May be the most rapid flying North American bird, has been seen fleeing from raptors at estimated speeds of over 200 mph". A Cessna pilot said they fly circles around him! I had awesome encounters with them in the Sierras. I *know* they fly WELL over 100 mph

that hawk is well dead the falcons got its braines all over its talons,,,its just give it a belt at about 120 miles a hour pluss ,,,, it would be like a bullit hitting you in the eyes,,,please get a grip.
@leemster08 The Red Tail was knocked silly, but was obviously not brained. Last seen he was alive and under some kind of control.. I'm guessing he lived. Wish I could have sen it all. I expect that the red tail got under foliage cover to have time to recover. And they are fairly agile on the ground. He may have hiked away from the area. He may not have seen the Peregrines or the chicks but if the chicks were indeed calling at that time, he heard them.
The Red Tail was knocked silly, but was obviously not brained. Last seen he was alive and under some kind of control.. I'm guessing he lived. Wish I could have sen it all. @NearTheLimits Some Peregrine Falcons have been measured flying at speeds that are higher than the service speed of some Japanese Bullet Trains. Go look it up if you don't believe me.
I've been in the avian field, for many, many, years now. And this was clearly, a "warning" strike. The Red-tailed, is obviously far bigger in size, but didn't see the "death dive" coming, as i like to call it. However, that said, at the speed the Falcon usually dives at, to kill it's prey, it could have killed the the larger Hawk easily. But more or less, caught it off guard, in this example. Very lucky Hawk indeed....
@beerndumplings Very rarely, but i'm sure it could happen. Especially, if the other species, is just as adept in it's own flying skills. However, there aren't that many birds, that can compare to the "jet fighter" like style, this bird possesses. Raven's can be EXTREMELY agile, but there much bigger birds, and often will pick aerial "dog fights" with falcons, just for the sheer amusement believe it or not......
Press 7 to see it again and again and again and AGAIN!
*I dont find this entertaining, but rather interesting how the Peregrine Falcon uses gravity to kill the Red Tailed Hawk. But still... PRESS 7 again and AGAIN!
The title is misleading. The Peregrine Falcon did not kill the Red Tailed Hawk. It bird bitch slapped the hawks ass, thats it. If the hawk died then why did it flew away?

I've been in the avian field, for many, many, years now. And this was clearly, a "warning" strike. The Red-tailed, is obviously far bigger in size, but didn't see the "death dive" coming, as i like to call it. However, that said, at the speed the Falcon usually dives at, to kill it's prey, it could have killed the the larger Hawk easily. But more or less, caught it off guard, in this example. Very lucky Hawk indeed....

@tomtalker2000 does the falcon ever get hurt from crashing into another bird?
beerndumplings 7 months ago

CELSDK 11 months ago
The title is misleading. The Peregrine Falcon did not kill the Red Tailed Hawk. It bird bitch slapped the hawks ass, thats it. If the hawk died then why did it flew away?
