  • Nice tank :) The fish are so bright-colored and pretty!

  • Hi I see u had commented on someone else's vid bout red zebras so I came to have a look, I don't believe the egg spot thing, I'm new to chiclids but I have 100% females with 5/6 spots, I have a male and female red zebra, and I can easily see the differences my female has 3 egg spots my male has quite a few, but the male's bottom fins are totally different to the female, my males anal fin is alot longer and pointy, my females is rounded, also my male's front bottom fins are alot longer and more

  • get different fish not only those it would b ring color to your tank

  • @JohanniCichlidGuy Yeah, my provider doesn't get a good range of cichlids... I should start buying online!xD

  • how many litres is it

  • @lfclikewalfc 55 gallons equals 208.2 liters !:)

  • Hi, well done! I see you have done your homework on these fish, I read you mentioned Malawi means "rock dwelling fish" but you really haven't supplied your fish with many rocky caves/hiding places? f you did they would be happier and healthier = better vibrant colors.

  • @9364peter yea i had bought those rocks when I started keeping fish... about 6 years ago and I have just never gotten back to the place where we got them I am making big plans to make a nice BIG rock structure in the tank. Also the tank has vases and a sunken ship that wasn't shown in the tank. I really appreciate your comments!:)

ps Mbuna means rock dwelling fish;)

  • If your having trouble with females swallowing eggs for whatever reason, you can strip her as soon as you notice they have finished breeding. I did this all time with rare and exotic mouthbrooders, if you don't have dedicated breeding tanks then this not only relieves the female so she can eat, she's also relived of stress by not being harassed by other tank mates. If done correctly you also get maximum fry.

  • @9364peter I tried to move her to a different tank and she did OK for a while and then I wonder if my mom when she put music on loud scared the female? SHe was a very motherly female cause she took a different females eggs into her mouth ( that female was stripped as soon as she started holding) as well!:D Was VERY fascinating... but tragic:(

  • Hi, your two red zebra's are both males, if you look at there bottom fin near his anus you can see what they call dummy egg spots, round colored spots that look like the eggs.

When breeding the female drops the eggs and she goes to pick them up in her mouth the male then places this fin near the real eggs, the female nibbles at the dummy egg spots trying to pick them up, at this time the male releases his milt and the eggs in the females mouth are fertilized. They repeat this until finished.

  • @9364peter I have heard that in many places but have found an equal amount of places that that was only partially true and said that that the best way to find out was to vent the fish. And the one that was seen the most was the only one I could catch and he was a male. I still do think that the egg spot thing is true but am uneasy if I was to try and find just males for a show tank. I can see your a VERY intelligent person and I THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO much for your advise!

  • Great tank
