Did America ever need the British Invasion at this time! This was just cabaret for teenagers. No acts here to get Moms and Dads irate! So clean and sanitized it gleams!

@cozener1 actually the british invasion was in full swing already when this aired in fall 1964. the beatles were already the biggest thing to ever hit show biz. america had nothing to respond to it with until the next year when the byrds and beach boys became competitive with the british groups stranglehold on the charts. you have to remember also that no one knew just yet how big the beatles would still become.everyone thought the bubble would burst soon and things would return to how they were

@cozener1 yeah,strange as it may seem only elvis had more number ones then pat till the beatles came along. but I think it speaks of how great rock'n roll was. even pat would work as long as rock'n roll was being played. plus you have to remember rock was young. no one knew just for sure what it should sound like or how it should be presented.record companies wanted to tame it so they could gain control of it and milk it. thats why they made the teen Idol.all safe and clean,like bobby sherman.

@TheBabyboomkidof53 Yeah there was an endless ist of safe white performers both male and female. Britain pre beat groups was very much the same with Tin Pan Alley controlling music publishing and the BBC rationing teen music on the airwaves. It was only pirate radio stations on the British coastal waters that finally broke the mould and allowed so many groups to be heard.

It was also the British interest in the Blues that sparked all those great groups like the Stones, Yardbirds, Animals etc
