  • thnx Mr. Alex

  • what is your valve valve measure thing isnt bent at the end like yours

  • Wish my crf250 was this easy!!!

  • my friend adjusted my honda -90 valves without that fancy thingy at 0:17 and it works just fine..

  • tnx

  • How mm is the filler?up and down is the same?

  • alexman you are the man very good video good skills!

  • 1st. Excellent filming and content. Thank you!

I am going to go do my valves now that you've helped me understand how simple it really is. I have a feeling that ticking sound I hear is the valves too loose?

  • does this valve adjustment apply on a different camshaft?

my engine is fitted with camshaft ones with a higher lift and duration..

my engine sounds like a ticking clock..

  • 2 people don't have a moped

  • @Azuregamo its not a moped??

  • Thanks so much for this! Perfect camera angles to show exactly what is going on.

  • Cheers dude!!!!!!!

  • Thx dude helped me allot! <3

  • great tutourial !

  • Did anyone point out yout tdc is wrong, it should turn easy, so the valves have their clearance

  • That's a cool little bike!

  • Nice video, very informative, do you TheAlexManVideos or anyone else know what the clearances would be for a 1982 C 50 Cub?

  • i have numerous honda 50 and 70cc engines and parts for sale if anyone is looking!!!

  • Well done!

  • CAN DO AT CRF OR SOMETHING

  • your videos were a fantastic help to me when i was restoring the bike.its like showroom i know youd like it.just had to tell you that.please respond to my question it would be much appreciated thanks

  • Alex i have a 1979 honda c70 i changed the head and cylinder because it was siezed.it was running perfect with the other head but from i changed it its chokeing up and im not getting full power.i took it apart and resealed it incase it was getting air from some of the seals but its still the same and the timeing is fine.the carb was good so it couldnt be it.have you any ideas what mite be causing this?

  • I thought the piston acted as the valves on 2-strokes? Are there push rods in the Z50's? Great vid!

  • @penna171980 Yes but the Z50's are all 4 strokes. And no there are no push rods, the Z50 uses an overhead cam. The Honda QA50 used a pushrod motor and very early Honda Cubs used a similar motor.

  • @TheAlexManVideos Oh ok. Cool. I could not remember if my first bike was a 2-stroke. I had a Z50 when I was 8 haha.

  • @TheAlexManVideos my bike runs then shuts of a little bit later really it cant idle by its self... i was thinking i might have to do this wat do u think?

  • @Nick75987 it may have tight valves, which means there is not enough clearance between the top of the valve an the adjusting screw which will not allow the valves to close fully

  • nice vid. very helpful

  • What do this help the bike do??

  • will having bad valve seals make you lose power ?

  • @pugsonrugs No. The motor might burn a bit of oil. The older motors had only one valve seal. Only the exhaust valve had a valve seal.

  • @TheAlexManVideos can you make a video on how to change bad valve seals if you have time?

  • From what I can tell, the loncin 50cc's are identical to these. Valve adjustment looks exactly the same.

  • i have a knock off Honda motor baja and my engine has a lot of back fire up when its starded cold but when warm it never back fires can you help?

  • Very helpful man....well done visually

  • Good vid man. Can you get me a valve clearance spec for an 84 Honda Big Red 200es? Thanks!!

  • We need more people like this on youtube and not 10 yr olds doing 2 ft wheelies and falling on their asses

  • should i do this if it does not idel when its cold

  • Man, I've been watching your videos and I'm really digging them. CHEERS to you for saving people money - and for good mechanical procedure! :D

  • Disregard Stevendavis that was for the other guy sorry

  • Stevendavis 150 the T on the flywheel will always pass the notch you have to line it up then adjust

  • hey i was just wondering, i tried to do this today and when was finished i had friction on my feeler guage but how much play does it have when you've done it right, because it kinda seemed like mine had a lot

  • awesome! thx! \o/

  • Excellent how to video. Nice bike. I would not mind having one of those.

  • Very good how to :D i finnaly get it :) thumbs up!

  • is it the sme procedure to adjuct valves on Ducati's?

  • i have a 1978 honda 50 moped i was wondering how do turn on the petrol flow i know its on the same swith as the 1 for the reserve tank so help please i will be getting a handbook for it soon so any ideas??

  • That was very helpful and educational.. thanks for posting...

keep up the good work man!!

  • i have an xr70 also but mines been runnin like shit i know that when i took the engine apart i noticed alot of filthy bad oil is it possible this is causing it to bog out? what are your suggestions?

  • Would this work for a 110cc

  • Comment removed

  • i have a Honda atc70 and it has a very hard time starting. I got it to start once but it took sooooo long. do u know how to make it start easier. thanks i appreciate the help

  • Great video saved me lots of time/money. Just had a question for you...my 50 has an 88cc kit and it wont start cold unless I push start it down a big hill. A guy at a local shop told me I needed to loosen my valves but another said it was because of my jetting. Any thoughts? Thanks

  • I need a clutch for my bike mine is an 84 if u have one can u message me please i really wanna drive it

  • thanks alot!

you made it look like it was very simple and it is now that i know how to!

  • I have a kit of gauges, and I have no access Due to the shape of plate.

Where I can buy a single gauge in the form of z you have?

  • Do u have to do this when u put a 70cc kit on a 50cc engine?

  • hey alex, i need a little bit of help. i have an 00 xr 70 and it runs like crap, it spits and sputters, and when you really roll the throttle it back fires and puffs out a small amount of brownish smoke. and at an idle it will idle all over the place and sometimes will even stall itself out, ive cleaned the card perfectly, and adjusting the jet and idle screw will not do anything, im hoping adjusting the valves will fix it but please let me know what you think of it.

  • Nice video, where did you find that feeler gauge I have been looking every where for one like that I need a 0.05 mm (0.002 in) for my 65 ct200 trail 90

  • how do you set the carb back to factory settings....not to sure how many turns out for the air screw, and the idle screw?

  • i have a lot of smoke coming from my exhaust pipe on my crf50 with 88 kit i dont think that the engine is damaged but if its not is there a way to fix it?

  • Thanks fora helping man but i have a honda c50 and have put a whole different engine on it..I have a CDI cylinderhead..do i have 2 do exactly the same things?

  • ha dood. my honda 50z is locked solid. the kick start feels like it slips and trying to push start it it sort of slipps in a kind of way. i diddnt seez it riding it but its just looked up over night. it is old and was getting hard to start but im not sure why its stuck. (no horrible crunch noise or anything like that) got any suggestions how to free it up. could it be a stuck valve or something.

  • do u no bout cam timing ????

settin crank & cam in proper relation !!!!

  • i just put the 88cc big bore kit with the different head and valves... well anyways i just got it together and i think i have the valves wrong. i can hear the exhaust out of my air filters. what should i do

  • is it normal to hear a little air leak when turning up to TDC?

  • is it normal to hear a little air leaking when turning it up to TDC???????????

  • is it normal to hear air leaking when you turn it up to TDC????????????

  • whaere did you buy the feeler gauge, or what brand are they??

  • I have a honda 250ex and It will start and run good but if you shut it of and leave it over night it wont start for a day or two Could that just be because the timing is of.

    Please help thanks

  • so how do you find tdc with an inner rotor kit??? good vids mate

  • awesome!

  • Hey how do you find TDC with a inner rotor in the crf70 just put in a new TB88kit with race head and a Inner rotor kit but the valves are ticking WAY bad and i was gonna set them but i can't figure out TDC with this inner rotor from AHP

  • @viperdirt did you find out how to set tdc i have the same problem get back to me please, cheers

  • thanks for the vid man, i did it to my bike and now it turns on right away and even gots more power!

  • hey whats up i was woundering if u know where to get the thing inside the fly wheel the magnetic thing because i have a pit bike 110 an i need a knew one plz message me back idk where they are sold so plz send me a message or give me a call on(650)-7120317

  • your weird

  • why do u have to do this? read something about more power?

  • hahah i just put the 40 bucks out for the pro motion tool kit to do valve tappets i figure i do 2 peoples valves at 25 bucks and i got my money back hah

  • Alex! You are the Man!! Great informative video!!

  • Great vid . ya what if the screw inside the card comes off wen ur riding cuz mine did. i think im screwd

  • could an out of adjustment valve cause a machine to run very rich? i have an atc 200es 3 wheeler that i rebuilt the top end on it has a brand new carb and still has black smoke and fouls plugs within 2 mintues

  • tune your carb

  • turned out i had fprgotten to set the ignition timing it was 180 off

  • what feeler gauge deph is used ?

  • 0.002 - 0.006

    i run mine at 0.004

    hope this helps you

  • Maybe it would be good to stress first to check the clearance before adjusting them. When they are adjusted the right way, they don't need readjusting often.

    But very nice video.

  • Comment removed

  • just based on that vid alone im going to sub

  • Great vid, quite explanatory. Do i have to empty the oil to do this procedure?

    thanks

  • Nope. There will always be a little bit of oil in the bottom tappet cover but the oil level of the motor is way below that cover and you won't have any issues.

  • Great video, i'm guessing this is the same for honda 90cc singles?

  • What does this do to the engine?

  • It adjusts the clearance between the rockers and the valves. Too loose and they rattle a lot, too tight and the valves hang open and you'll lose power.

  • @TheAlexManVideos

Nice video.Careful with adjusting the valves too tight, specially the exhaust. THat will burn the valve as it does not sit on the valve seat for long enough to dissipate the heat.

  • @TheAlexManVideos is it posible after many years of use that they can become too

tight and will cause the engine to have no compression ?

  • @TheAlexManVideos do u adjust the valves like this on any engine?

  • @TheAlexManVideos do u adjust the valves like this on any engine?

  • Thanks. Doing my Honda Super Dream C100M8 tomorrow.

  • All done. Damn I love these Honda engines. Great to work on. I think I set them too loose to begin with. A little clacking which I assume was tappet noise occured after first attempt. 2nd attempt I set them a little tighter and now it's all good. I'm keeping a keen eye on them. Thanks for the video, was good to see it done, cemented what I thought and gave me extra confidence.

  • Your ignition timing is off. You need to adjust it.

  • why does my pit bike back fire all teh time, it exsplodes so badley in the exhaust it snaped my exhaust 2 times but i have fixed it now but it back fire ass hel, how to i get rid of it

  • This is a quality "how to" vid, thanks for posting.

  • hi i have a z50r and every couple of days i have to replace the spark plug because it gets oil fouled. also it blows a bit of smoke. wat should i do to fix it. will replacing the rings and gaskets do anything. also maybe the valve guides?

    thanks

  • Plug is fouling because oil is somehow getting in the cylinder. That also explains the smoke. Check your compression. Then add a few drops of oil in the spark plug hole and check the compression again. If it goes up, your rings need to be replaced. If it's the same, replace the valve seals. It is more likely to be the rings. If the cylinder measures within spec, just hone it and get a new set of rings and possibly a piston. Let me know before you order parts, I have some new stuff I never used.

  • thanks,

i am thinking of getting a 72cc big bore kit which comes with piston and rings. i might also get two new valve seals as well.

  • Thanks for taking the time to pulblish this video.

  • hey i got the same exactbike sitten in my garage its a 1984 all stock dosnt look as nice as yours and the motor isnt black

  • The previous owner painted the engine black. I just never bothered to fix it.

  • The cylinder is stock black from honda...

  • if my bike sputters at full speed does that mean i gotta do my valves

  • Check spark timing, carb settings, and valve adjustments. Also check for solid electrical connections.

  • first thanks for the video great¡ second d o you know what can I do to upgrade my acceleration and max speed I own a c 90

  • More power, or gearing. Taller gearing will give more top speed, lower gearing will give better acceleration. Gearing gives you one or the other. Power combined with proper gearing gives you both.

  • usually you wont ever need to adjust valves on a crf 50.

  • Excellent video, thank you so much, you saved me a lot of money.

  • Thanks alot. I can now service my son's bike more thoroughly.

Thank 's for taking the time.

  • Thats a Z50!!!

    lol Nice what year?

  • This particular bike is a 1984 roller with a 1979 motor.

  • is it the same proccess on a orion agb 21 125cc? it's the same motor as the honda but a 125cc

  • Should be the same but I don't like to deal with Chinese crap motors so don't be mad at me if it's wrong.

  • Care!

  • hey man i need to adjust my honda trx 400ex valves, is it the same proccess??? or is it different

  • Dude, I have no idea but I doubt it. If it's anything a CRF450R motor it uses shims and buckets. I would suggest you get the manual or take the bike to a shop.

  • ok man thanks for your suggestions

  • Hey I put the wrong size bolt on the bottom left of the ignition cover on my crf50 and it has punched through into the crank caseand now with the bolt it leaks oil, I've spoke to fast50s and they said it shouldn't be a problem. What do you think???

  • I think that's impossible. The threads would fail long before you poked a hole through the case. I may be wrong but I think your problem is elsewhere. Can you confirm that oil is indeed pouring out of that exact hole?

  • Yep it is pouring out that hole. As soon as I take the bolt out the oil comes pouring out, what do you think it could be?

  • I suppose if that's the case then there is indeed a hole into the crankcase. I would get a stud (just a long threaded stick) and thread it in there with some epoxy on the threads to seal it up. Then use a nut on the stud to secure the left cover. Try to clean up the threads in the case as much as you can because the cleaner it is the better the epoxy will stick.

  • Great idea, thanks alot..

  • where canu get the measuring thin i have a 80 does it make a difference. by the way why dont u get a service shop or somithng u are well good in moterbikes mate

  • The specs for an 80 might be different. I have no idea. Check with your service manual. I would like to work as a mechanic, but I'm only 16, so it's just a hobby now, not a profession.

  • Daaammmmmmmn dude 1 kick! thats good.

  • Okay man i want to thanks you for this i have been looking for a tutorial for ever. I do have another question for you I have a 88 kit and getting a oil leak and this has cause the motor to have a nasty knock any ideas? please llet me know what you might think

  • I'm going to guess that the oil leak and knock are separate issues. The oil leak is just a bad seal or gasket somewhere. Clean the motor up real nice and go ride it. Then find where the oil is coming from. The knock could be pre-ignition, you ignition timing too far advanced, low octane fuel, or a number of other things. Check those things first.

  • i dont have those little measurement tools. i have a bad motorcycle in my video watch it and tell me what you think i should do. thank you!

  • awesome how you drive away at the end :D

    nice tutorial!

  • Thanks for posting this! It helped me alot!

The color coded tools idea is genius.

  • great video, why do you have tape on the wrenches?

  • They are color coded so I know what size they are from across the room. Black tape are wrenches ending in 0 or 5. 5mm, 10mm, 15mm etc. No tape means sizes ending in 1 and 6. White tape is 2 and 7. Red is 3 and 8. Blue is 4 and 9. Then it starts over again. Makes it easy to find tools.
