This is the first time I can remember ever seeing this video (and I've seen a LOT of Disney cartoons!) and I loved it! The animation is great, the song is very upbeat and I found myelf tapping my toes throughout the whole picture! Who cares what its meaning is? It's a great cartoon!
it means not to be a total dead beat and alow others to go on working while you do nothign but play piano. Its not saying you cant have fun or play music just in appropriate times.
no need to get all defensive. it was just what they are getting at, and its OBVIOUS if they work on a farm and own one it takes more than just rockin on an instrument all day to keep it going. he shouldnt have a farm that takes a lot mroe work than playing an instrument.
This film was made in the fifties when the predominate zeitgeist in design was determined by the abstract and modernism movements in art. What you're seeing are reflections of what was considered new and hip, and at the forefront of the fashion, design, and art vanguard at the time.
I remember seeing this neat song on the Disney Channel from my younger days. And I liked how the wife walked passed by all those performing animals and people to whack her non-busy husband.
Very very U.P.A. influenced - shows how fresh and revolutionary UPA was in its heyday - before the style degenerated into the limited animation of television productions.
Awesome post, lpmangas!!!! Brings back to me some priceless and beautiful memories from my childhood. Here and a *pling pling*, there and a *pling pling*, here *pling*, there *pling* and everywhere a *pling pling*. Old Mc Donald had a band, ia ia ooo.
Also, Mrs. Macdonald should really be using a saw to cut the tree into logs. An axe is only good for splitting logs into fire-sized chunks.

yeah well, what happens if piano(or any other instrument for that matter) is your life? if the thing that you re good at is music then why not?

Where can you get these songs on CD? Man, WHAT FUN!
kinnis228 3 years ago
Kinnis228, I can only say that I agree with you! This is kind of like Ham and Hattie, the influence (UPA))'s then current (two-theme) series.

I like the Famous Studios adapation of the song better, and yes, Old MacDonald has a band in the cartoon I'm talking about.
