why does everyone find the performance awkward?!! it's sweet, maybe sweet first puppy love.. which i guess some would see as awkward, but it's more so cute and fresh to me. also, the vocals are there for the japanese part and the oh oh ohs, but she's obviously NOT lip syncing.

She is not lip-syncing. For the parts where the vocals have effects, like the "Hoh-oh-oh-oh" part and when she speaks in Japanese, they have a backup vocal track. Its more practical than having to worry about having someone apply effects to just those parts. I worked at a live music venue for several years that booked many national acts and this is extremely common. If you compare the studio version of the song to this one it is very apparent that she is actually singing.
