  • Am I the only one that LOL when she said "She was POLISHED!"

  • this teaches you while you learn

  • Come on, people. One cannot but love this woman with incredible desire to sing. Who cares for good singing. The world is full of talented singers. There is only one Florence Foster Jenkins!

  • Well, she wanted to sing real bad, and she worked hard and she sang - real bad.

  • Where oh where, dear readers is your humor.....she was terribly sublime. Doncha know.....

  • Fool people?I didn't think so because Jenkinsa herself thought she was a great singer. She was not attempting to fool people, I am impressed with her ambition and desire to sing. She obviously studied hard and strove to sing at her very best for each concert. She must have been a very interesting lady to know. I am not a fan of Miley Cyrus, per say, but I do not begrudge her her fans or the oodles of money she makes off of them buying her music and watching her movies, Good for her!

  • A quote from wikipedia:

'Despite her patent lack of ability, Jenkins was firmly convinced of her greatness. She compared herself favorably to the renowned sopranos Frieda Hempel and Luisa Tetrazzini, and dismissed the laughter which often came from the audience during her performances as coming from her rivals consumed by "professional jealousy."'

She was either deaf or she was a charlatan. She was definition not deaf.

  • "I am impressed with her ambition and desire to sing. She obviously studied hard and strove to sing at her very best for each concert."

Yeah, and the fact that she had no talent is of zero importance. What a twisted view of things.

  • Talent isn't everything. For talent there are many other singers one can listen to. Jenkins had personality! She sadly didn't know that people were laughing at her but they were but in a way , I think people respected her determination.

  • As I said, if you want talent...go listen to a good singer. Jenkins was not a talented singer. Cetainly, I can see where a person might be a bit jealous of such a well known and interesting person. But I for one do not begrudge her her fame and fortune!

  • "... a bit jealous of... ."

Do not assume. I'm as jealous of her as I'm jealous of a Bernie Madof. I played fair with you all along so I hope its not too much to ask for you not to play dirty.

"But I for one do not begrudge her..."

Good for you, but you failed to convince me the value of such a "singer."

  • Well, actually, if you read my comment, I never accused you of being jealous. I only said that "a person" might be jealous...not necessarily you! I also never said Jenkins had value as a "singer" As a singer she has little value, I agree. Jenkins value was in her ability to follow her dream with headstrong determination along with her savy politics. She was a marvel ! If I have offended you in anyway please know that it was never intentional.

  • Oh, come on. She was a charlatan, plain and simple.

Nyiregyhazi was an obscure Hungarian pianist who started off as a sensational child prodigy with an international career but only to be reduced to a street person by his 20's. Efforts to revive his career met with some success but never lasted. He seemed to prefer alcohol and sex than a career despite allegedly possessing a technique comparable to that of Franz Liszt. He died in 1987. There is a book on him. "Lost Genius" by Kevin Bazzana.

  • I have heard of child prodigys that "fizzle" out as they get older. Yes, that is terribly sad. In contrast, Jenkins was never "sad". She had a colourful life full of friends and activities and concerts. I don't think her a charlatan because to me that implies that people were "fooled" and I honestly do not think any of her fans were fooled. Thanks for the info

  • People were not fooled, but she did try to fool them. Thus, a charlatan.

"She had a colourful life full of friends and activities and concerts."

Like I said before, that can be said about A LOT of people. What makes her so special other than the publics perverted interest in bad singers?

But what do I know, huh? Miley Cyrus' auto bio is a best seller. Maybe you should get one too.

  • Well, let's see...Charles Mansion helped to murder innocent people in cold blood and Florence enjoyed singing opera...

If you compare them ..it's quite a stretch!

I have heard Florence sing...She was a coloratura soprano I believe...

  • LOL, are you serious?

How do you enjoy her singing?

  • Well now..I never said I enjoyed her singing but her singing does make me smile....:)

  • Her singing makes me LOL. I admit that there are musical failures like Nyiregyhazi whose lives can be fascinating and within which are some important lessons to be learnt. But Jenkins? It's pretty hard to make a case for her being anything near a worthy subject of a documentary.

  • I would offer that there is more to singing than singing! There is voice, Looks, personality, Charisma, politicing, financing, status and more...!

Jenkins had all but the voice. Indeed her voice wasn't amongst the best in the world but she sang with gusto!

    Who is Nyirgyhazi?

  • I'm sorry I didn't thread my reply properly.

  • @DivaDeb1234 hmm she tried to be- and I think most of us agree that she failed quite miserably. And the tragic thing is that she thought she was good because of the huge audiences that came to see her, but infact they came to see her cause she she was so blummin awful it was hilarious! i feel quite sorry for the woman to be honest xxx

  • i agree with the last comment , the one who said lives about losers needs to be more indepth . that is called living .

  • You've probably never heard Jenkins sings.

  • Well, looks like that wasn't such a bad assumption to make after all, was it?

Oh, and next time you have something negative to say about me, hit the reply button instead of go "the one..." Talk shit behind someone's back is an act of cowardice.

  • Fascinating!

  • What is it about lives of losers that people always find fascinating?

  • HA! I do not consider her a loser..! She is a facinating individual with a joy of life that some may never know!

  • Same thing can be said about Charles Manson I guess.
