  • boy in blue shirts' attention to detail

    :)

  • throw a couple pedals on that puppy!

  • 2 masters..amazing!! wow..what a talent!!

  • whaa.... what a combination, and jugalbandi, I enjoyed very much. Thank u

  • Srinaivas ji misseds the last beat!!!.. he did not reach on "sum" properly..

  • @rpb1231 Mandolin Srinivas has NOT missed any beat. It is a beat of 7 called, Mishra Chapu Taalam in the carnatic style of rhythm. In Hindustani, it is called Rupak. He just didn't play the last note. A prodigy of the nature of Srinivas KNOWS his Talam(Taal). You can be assured of that. :) Maybe you don't understand the Carnatic system well enough. The main instrumentalist/vocalist need not play the last note. That is for the percussionist to finish.

  • @climit1pt6 thanks for the information . I really dont have much knowledge of south Indian music.. Thanks for educating me on that and sorry.. :) ragards...

  • man i would kill to have some curry right now!

  • great jugalbandhi..its a treat to watch ustadji and mandolin srinivasan. The kids are so lucky. mondolin srinivasan is a maestro in carnatic music as he glides over the strings with such an ease in building up the raga...great combination.

  • Really unforgettable.

    Thanks pal .

  • unparalleled mastery over the tabla...Zakir's genius has rebirthed the Tabla itself!!!

  • Divine

  • my old guitar teacher is going to india to study mandolin from zakir as his teacher

  • @defyinggeneration U. Srinivas is the mandolin player.

  • i like dhis videio

  • What a treat! Amazing...

  • That is fantastic !!! What type of sting instrument is that ?

    marleo

  • Thats a Mandolin...

  • @marleo63

    Mandolin.

  • wow...that was only two minutes!?

  • Frenetikus !

    Magyarul lenyügöző!

  • lol! The boy in blue is looking at the hands of zakir going like: What a f*^^ck is going on with those fingers????

  • thats a mandolin..moron

  • SPLENDID!! AWESOME!!

  • haha, i ent seen this one..thats was pretty heavy lol

  • niceee!!

  • Ooooooooooh

  • Zakir Hussain is amazing!

He's playing London Barbican on Friday 19 June!

  • No doubt Zakir Hussain is considered to be the best Tabla player today....

  • Entertaining people is a big part of music. Jagjit took a very exclusive form of song, ghazal, and popularized it immensely. Can one doubt the dedicated lives of the maha-artistes because they are not boring? Thanks to Zakir and Srinivasan for this excellent offering.

  • You must be high on something, u have no clue what u blabbered, do urself a favor and get some help

  • If you don't understand a written text, you either missed a part of your school education or simply suffer from the lack of basic mental capabilities. In either case, nothing to brag about ....

  • I assume u r still high and also haven't gotten any help,so I choose to ignore u

  • True, soulful music is essential too. But what do you know of these two stalwarts to say that they didn't play soulful music? They have done so, are doing so and will do so for time to come. You're ignorant. Besides, try to look at the beauty in gimmicks too.

  • You are a real proof of what you try to say ...

  • Wow..Awesome!!!!

  • This is the first performance I've seen with U. Srinivas and Zakir Hussein. I'd love to be able to bust melisma on my bowlback mandolin like U. Srinivas. Maybe in another lifetime. I love the mood of these concerts. So intimate.

  • brilliant!

  • I would love to Srinivas play with Bassekou Kouyate, the Malian ngoni player. I think that would be incredible.

  • Good Gawd. I love Zakir's playing.

  • Srinivas and Zakir !!!!!! magical fingers

  • srinivas--- prodigy!

  • zakir hussain is the best percussionist ever born on this planet.

  • he learnt from the master, his father, Alla Rakha Khan

  • great!

  • word

  • respect for the master

  • yes i'm agree pimezon !

and i got the same feeling when i was at a concert of

    AMRAT HUSSAIN

( i saw there was some videos on the My Space of this guy )

do you know if they are brothers ?

or father and son ? they are a lot's of Hussain's playing Tabla.. but those two are really alike !!

  • anyone know what tuning srinivas uses?

  • EBEBE ( There are 5 strings in his instrument)

If you are tuning your guitar .. Tune your 1st to E, second to B and so on ( You get EBEBEB)

If you are playing in a band .. you might want to downshift to DADADA as there wont be as many flat keys for keyboard player.

  • it was good

  • i think even while zakhir hussain is sleeping, his hands still play tabla.. he plays tabla like hes breathing.

  • Ustad is beyond all tabla players. No one can be even half as good as him. Anything he tries on the tabla is simply divine. Ustad Ji thanks for blessing us with your magical sound and creativity.

  • Is a guitar what he is playing?

  • mandolin.

  • awesome.....

  • nice.. nice.. look @ the kids sitting at the back enjoying!!! :)) sweet

  • @pratopathak that's small boy's damn sleepy needs a slap on the face to wake up.

  • Excellent piece ...Cannot figure out the position of U Shriniva's fingures while playing the last swaram...awesome...thanks as lot for posting such an amazing one...

  • Zakir Ji is my favorite Tabla player...Very dynamic..No Procussionist can match him

  • Obviously you have never listened to professional mridangam players and Ganjira players from Southern India. Zakir Himself said in an interview that Carnatic percussionists are the best.

  • Well thats a sign of Humbleness within a great precussionist...I am also a Tabla player and I have listened to many different types of music for your info...

  • i agree with you. nevertheless, you cannot simply claim that none can match him.. once an artist reaches maturity, he reaches a level called infinity. if you know mathematics, infinity cannot be compared to another infinity. because infinity+any_finite_number is again infinity. therefore, dont compare great artists.. they are good in their own ways.

  • well said, you are right!

  • This has to rank as one of the most insightful comments I have read on YouTube. It is a worthy addition to a video of such incredible music. Awesome.

  • i disagree with the math analogy. infinities can be compared. but i get the point lol.

  • sweet

  • Although Zakir Ji's tabla playing is awesome, i don't know why but trying to replicate the exact note of a musical instrument with the bayan is nigh on impossible, even by the great master. It is always slightly out of tune - i don't know why he and others persist in this type of interaction. It's not an exact art. However, Zakir Ji has brought tabla playing to a whole new level and audience in his lifetime and long may it continue.

  • You kinda have the wrong impression, this piece is called Jugalbandi for musical terms, it is NOT a part where the tabla player is matching in TUNE or note, but matching the COMPOSITION. Jugalbandi is a style that has been around for ages, dating back some seroius time ago, this is the music now, and how is has been.
