The word "Imam" does not only refer to the 12 maasumeen. "Imam" is a spiritual stage, read the quran, it states that some prophets reached the stage of Imam such as Ibrahim (AS) and Muhammad Sal Allah Aalyhim wa Ahlul Bayt.
