For just one (possible) example: if there is overcrowding in prisons and the courts require them to release people who have served X years (or Y%) of their sentences, additional life sentences mean that a prisoner is *not* released, but simply starts counting down on a new clock.

Sodomy is taken from the biblical story of Sodom and Gomorrah and the perceived sexual depravity of the two cities by god. One source claims that "the legal use of the term "sodomy" is restricted to rape cases where anal penetration has taken place". However, I do find examples of 'oral' and 'bestiality' as you have mentioned. Funny though, I never once heard the word come up in the President Clinton scandal. I'm a third year law student and I have to say this judge gives me renewed faith in the legal system. It's nice to know we still have a few level headed judges who aren't afraid to tell it like it is and who understand that someone who commits such a vile crime deserves to be locked away forever (even though I'd personally rather them executed). What I do know is that driving over it would be a horrible thing to do. Similarly, while I don't know for sure the rapist will do it again, what I DO know is he's shown a tendency to do such a thing and that risking him doing it again would be reckless. I don't think we have the right to be reckless with the safety of kids.
