  • Tracey Ullman was my hero

  • Oh my good good .... this brings back a truly embarrassing memeory of my sister and I screaming the 'BABY' bit out of her bedroom window at about 100 million decibells!! THE SHAME!! Well I was only 7 after all!

  • it would seem that 13 people just dont know bout us!

  • Tracey was a pop star. Then she married a tycoon and it was all over.

  • i often used to imagine her replacing the word eyes with the word legs

  • Tracey,HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

    30 december 1959

  • i love traceys dress.i want it.

  • very very sexy..xxx

  • Great song, luv Tracey Ullman, underated singer, great actress, comedienne, brings me back. She was,and still is v.sexy, looks great in this vid. This still sounds good today.

  • Very nice.. I had no hairs on my dick at the time to fink how good looking these ladies look ;-)

  • what a creepy fashion on the eighties

  • @bde12000

What's weird was that this was a retro-1960's song... at least when Tracey got a hold of it.

  • @DTD110865 ok just take it easy men, that was my opinion

  • @bde12000

Hey, no sweat, bde12000. Have you ever seen the actual music video?

  • @DTD110865 no way !!!

  • does anyone know what a chancer is

  • nice dress and great song,

great to see a real woman intead of some blonde bimbo

  • The late great Kirsty's backing vocals are all over this version as well as her own. The word 'baby' - before the verse comes back in - is also Kirsty's voice and taken from her version!

  • lol, I listen to the lyrics and it appears as if i was listening to a clueless stubborn girl with no experience singing about some cocky fag who's acting all arrogant and looks badass and how much she loves him... so lol.... but they cut it right there... nobody's interested in hearing about getting pregnant, him leaving her alone, her broken foolish heart and screwed life.. oh classic .. ;>

    and ye 80s were best.

  • ...and hot!

  • She's brilliant.

  • What a fantastic era for music..the charts were littered with such incredible variety of styles and performers. One week you may have a top 10 where a comedian's 60's homage like this is sharing the spotlight with a German heavy metal band..or a 40- something British R&B singer..or maybe an American country-pop duo.

Now what's heard on the radio is mostly just the same type of asinine, crap music sung by the same unoriginal, uninspired, untalented yet promoted corporate "artists".

  • Same with the top 40 in the 70's. Even more of an eclectic mix of pop, rock, folk, country, novelty, hard-rock, soul, motown, jazzish, you name it...

today it's all ridiculous rap and bad techno dance..

  • On Jan 1st 1980, I was a 15 y/o teenager. On 1/1/1990, I was 25. That decade was a great musical time to grow up in...Pop, Rap, Rock & Roll's last true renaissance, we had it all...

  • Sprinkle Sprinkle little star, so far so far, how I wonder what you are......oh sprinkle sprinkle little star. amen.

  • this song reminds me of a total prat i was totally in love with. he was such a good catch - awol from the army, common, smoked, drank - oh wot wonderful memories (actually i was the prat!)

  • Ah yes...those trashy,tatted-up armed forces types. Image over substance for the most part.

Mine was actually very similar to what you described...except he was bi-polar, manipulative and had a laughably small penis.

Cured me of my modest fascination with military men in a matter of days.

  • ha ha you got it right girl! mine was a permanent pisshead, life and soul of the party, game for a laugh, immature, very easily lead and as far as Im aware hes still the same today. Actually, hes the one happy with his life so good on him I suppose. Not the life for me. I still like a man in uniform tho! Ill just have to get get my man to dress up (Only fools and horses, Rodney and Cassandra sketch - hes dressed up as a gladiator and shes a policewoman - have you seen it?).

  • love this song and fancied the pants off ullman then even if i was to young to know better lol

  • 1:50 "Now I found good lovin, gonna make it last"

I like the way she gestures while she sings that.

  • @klyde333

I like her gesture there too.

Actually, I'm infatuated with the way she sings, looks, and especially moves throughout the whole song.

  • WOW TRACEY IS A CUTIE YUMYUM

  • haha .. I was just listening to a song by the School "All I wanna Do".

It reminded me of this Tracey Ullman vid. - one of my favorite 80's tunes. I used to lip-sync this in the mirror along with the MTV video.

  • She said in an interview that she has no looks to lose. Bull. For her, the good news is that she still look great and is a as funny as ever. I just wish she'd make another record.

  • This song bings back so many memories. I remember the wonderful summer of 1983, I was 19 and certainly took my chances. Strangely at roughly the same time I remember "Give it up" by KC and the sunshine band and Michael Jacksons Beat it being in the charts.

  • aaaaaaaaaah!! i remember cruising the town in my 69 covertible cutlass listening to these tunes.....makes me think of my wonderful youth!!!

  • what a fucking great song!

  • tracy ullman looks quite quirky and playful

  • Miss Tracey Ullman

Is My Real And Lovely Mum And That Is True And I Did Get My Mum Tracey

To Wear A Pink Dress And White Shoes What You Will See My Mum Tracey What Is Wearing And I Was With My Mum Tracey At Top Of The Pops Studio It Is True

  • Are you serious?

  • If that's true, then you will know that this was filmed in 1983 which is 26 years ago. Assuming you must be in your very late twenties- at the youngest- why then can you still not construct sentences with punctuation and with the knowledge that only the first word of each sentence; names; references to the first person, etc. should be in upper case?!

Her first child was born in 1986; the second in 1991.

    Get a life, idiot.

  • This was also the closing music for her sketch show 'Trace Takes On...' in 1996. Bloody great tune.

  • oops, meant: 'Tracey Takes On...'

    : /

  • ...I believe it's her singing...but on the 'BABY' bit...(not very technical, I know....)...I think they used the Kirsty MacColl vocal...I could be misinformed though....

  • You are correct the "Baby" is sampled.

  • god, she looks so young! And I feel so old...

  • Me, too!

  • @asherhawke Exactly!

  • no way she made it to the top in the UK & left for the USA thank god

  • she has more talent more brilliance and real genius in her ... finger than you could ever dream of. dopey git.

  • I had a boner for her back in the day.

  • Prefered her single "Sunglasses" :)

... and her piss take of Bananarama on Three Of A Kind.... Dang, I'm getting old

  • I love Tracy Ullman such a great comedian; the Tracy Ullman Show was a funny, funny show. Saturday night live cannot even compare. She is a legend and underated for sure!

  • is that rly her singing?

  • It IS her singing, but its a recording, they're not singing live, its lip synching.

  • there was a video for this song on MTV - the guy she was singing this to looked like he should be in a bad 70's porno -

  • @jillfank lol do you mean Paul McCartney? He's in the video at the end. I think Neil kinnock was in it too. He was Labour party leader of opposition back then. Huge political figure and Thatchers nemesis.

  • A beautiful song by Kirsty MacColl

  • I quite agree.

    Thank you for your comment.

    Take care.

  • @FURIOJUNTA that's Kirsty's voice shouting ' baby' after the break...RIP

  • @FURIOJUNTA

that's Kirsty singing "baby" at 1:48. The note was too high for Tracey.

  • @rederic2004

Yeah, you can hear it's clearly her voice .

  • @derbbus Yeah, I think it's sampled right from the 1979 version of the song.

  • very good song!

  • Tracey has so much talent! Great voice, great character actor.. awesome person. Thanks UK!

  • The dance routine they do at 1:30 is hilarious

  • It is...and then when she looks and hits that note oh wow.

  • hmm wasn't this the theme song for that funny show tracey takes on.. ?

  • A wonderful blend of Lulu and Petula.

  • Tracey is one of the most talented women that the UK has ever produced.

  • She needs the Phil Spector "wall of sound"lol

  • oh no she doesn't!

  • she's a babe and a half, gotta love her!

  • thanx alot!!!! :)

  • what does incapable mean?

  • Lacking the necessary ability, capacity, or power: incapable of carrying a tune; incapable of love.

    b. Unable to perform adequately; incompetent: an incapable administrator.

    2. Usage Problem Not susceptible to action or treatment: a unique feat, incapable of duplication.

    3. Law Lacking legal qualifications or requirements; ineligible.

  • You know she is doing this entirely tongue in cheek, it was never meant to be a serious pop record.. she is taking the piss out of the industry.

  • Agreed, but it was a great production of "taking the piss" eh?

  • Hello Karen Edwards (of Scotland), are you listening to this? :) Wonder where you are.

  • This was also covered in japanese by BaBe (B-side to the "Give Me Up" single).

  • bettr big mouth than song writer; Good tune, though.

  • yes

this is a cover, written/performed by the late Kirsty MCcoll originally

i do like this version though and remember skating as a kid at silver blades rink in Birmingham UK to this

  • Brit chicks are the shits!

You haven't lived until you've dated a Brit babe!

  • Tracey Ullman is so Fucking Hot!

  • I wonder who the choreographer was.

  • Stephen Hawking.

  • the 'baby' at 1.40 was sung by Kirsty MacColl since Ullman was clearly incapable

  • i was there a top of the pops when tracy sang this it was brill she even blew a kiss at me out of all the fellas there she picked me what more can i say studley

  • hannah wyoming can't carry Tracey's tampon!

  • Liking the moves at 1:48 She was really slim,

    looks good in that outfit!

  • Huh, I'd like to see hannah montana remake it and freak out all the tweeners.

  • it seems like there was a 60s revival in the 80s.

it started with happy days and american grafitti in the 70s.

then in the 90s there was boogie nights and that 70s show.

now we seem to be loving the 80s. it no longer seems as bad as it used to, now that 20 or so years has passed.

  • It never seemed bad, or at least the first half of it was never bad.

  • truly bizarre.

    love it.

  • played on the speakers every day on my first job at the mall...big bows, add a beads, scrunchies, and lots of pink : )

  • wow shes really slim

  • Yeah that's what I say.

  • OMG, I remember this from when I was 4!

  • A good track that was on the first 'Now thats what I call music album', 25 years ago.

  • dam sexy

  • shes good, but not quite as sexy as david copperfield from "three of a kind" ?

  • If you like this, you will LOVE Tracy Ullman Live and Exposed on Home Box Office network.

You get two versions of this song for the price of one!! :)

  • Wow yea i love this cover and have listened to it loads since the 80s but the high "baby" stands out as kirstys voice now that you said it. Still a top bird tho I always fancied tracy as a kid and looking back i can remember why. cheers, vain.

  • check the dodgy white high heels!!!! lol

  • Tracy Ullman may very well be the singularly most underrated actress of the last several decades - she gets at the undercore of neuroses and shares it, thereby making us all richer. A true treasure... lang may she reek !!!

  • Why do I feel that loving this song is a guilty pleasure?

  • I'd knock the bottom out of it....

  • this song needs to be played on the radio more!

  • I thought I saw something under that mini-skirt...

    Perhaps the original beaver flash!!!

  • a nice feel good song

  • Tracey Ullman is gorgeous

  • Wow they really weren't afraid to lipsync in those days. Awesome song tho I am in love with Tracy

  • Can't explain it. I just love this goofy acting girl. Fall on me Tracy and please be heavy...

  • This is just a great song.

  • I don't mean any disrespect and I respect both girls. Both are individuals and I support their ethnicity and culture. But I don't know why I think of Tracey Ullman and Julie Walters in a similiar way.

  • Does anyone else feel this way?

    Thanks.

  • I don't know what you're getting at but there's no reason to be so cautious about it. Are you afraid someone will think you're a bad person? Just say it!

  • she is a babe.i love her.

  • I love this song and Tracey for recording it.

  • RETRO 80's in 2008

  • Next decade it will be the 90's again.

  • she is an AMAZING off the charts talent.i love her,she is brilliant beautiful sexy hot english shs got it all.i love tracey.her new show is great.

  • This is such a good song, one of my faves from the 80's, and she does it so well..great fun girl!

  • What impresses me most about this vid clip is: these ladies' hygiene isn't suspect. Try saying that about most singers today. ;)

  • Tracey is such rare talent. She's very smart, creative, funny, and cute as anything (always was and still is).

She's wealthy as anything at this point, but she keeps on writing and producing. Go Tracey!

  • Tracey was really pretty, what a cutie!

  • I was 7, and these were the days

  • I'm 37 years old and with all the music going on today and the day to day rush i just feel like i'm much older - not in it.

This song remind me of the great time of the 80's, walking to the local disco club, feeling young and so a live !!

Those old times were the best, everything was much more naive.

I think everyone who was a teenager during the 80's will know what i mean.

Thanks for posting this great song.

  • That's Life.

  • I feel you.

  • Even when you got into your 20's in 1980's (I'm 44 years old) things seemed a lot less hectic then they do now a days as far as being able to take time to listen, dance to & appreciate music.

I'm from U.S., & was one of probably the first people in the U.S. to realize what a huge talent Tracey Ullman was, while several people around me didn't realize with this song what was to come from Tracey. But, oh well on that, at least that was the time when pop radio would play more variety.

  • great post.i couldnt agree more.

  • Me too. Seems like there's little time just to sit back and listen.

  • I had her album back then I never stopped playing it, she was my first crush, I fancied her like mad

  • Tracey is a bloody genius.

  • Among many other things, Tracey Ullman helped to introduce an appreciation of The Simpsons to America.

Kirsty MacColl (RIP) appreciated my comfortable shoe requirement. Homer Simpson let me know I'm not alone with my gastro ailments.

Regarding this clip? Tracey, assuming you've voluntarily left them there, if you don't find your shoes under my bed, where they are welcome to be, it is because I'm out on the verandah sniffing them.

  • not pish!! away and squirt on something that'll clear your ears! ~ this is sheer class!! :)

  • tracy ullman in the 80's, what a babe!! what a face! So feminine then, she was a babydoll.

  • totally agree wiv ya - even tho im only nearly 18 nah

  • Classic pop song about young love from the pen of the late great Kirsty MacColl - Tracey's version is ace, sounds like it comes from the 60s but is timeless

  • I adore Kirsty MacColl

    Her picture's on my wall

But Tracey's version of "They Don't Know"

Is the greatest of them all...

  • I love Kirsty MacColl's version and this one a well.

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArrrrrgh.... wow Tracey Ullman floated my boat then and still does.......really spot on.... taking the piss out of the 60's craze that was all round the uk teenagers at the time...while still ending up with a great tune....thx for posting

  • The backing singers have definitely got some 'back' on them. Tracey should follow their lead and put on a few pounds. She's way too skinny.

  • great ear candy

  • 80'sDudeman, thanks for posting.

  • OK, some of you may not be familiar with our Tracey's early work in the UK, she was a very talented actress and comedienne, she also did several splendid (slightly tongue in cheek) covers of old 60's songs, like this one here. The choreography is supposed to imitate young girls dancing in a 60's disco style, so yes its lame, that's the point.

PS and she was a babe!!!

  • Someone sort the choreogropher out!!!
