  • I want to meet Morrison someday just to see if he can break my finger with the corner of his mouth.

  • Amazing!!

  • hello

  • Try listening to some Elliot Mason, or Bob Mcchesney, that's fast trombone playing. James Morrison definitely has some strong high range though.

  • I hate James Morrison's ridiulously fast note passages...but as for the rest, I love this guy's trombone soloing

  • compared to this...I SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Just wow!

  • trombone hands down better the sax

  • which one is better : trombone or the sax???

  • Trombone!

  • I play trombone too! its rules!

  • i have two days playin trombone.... im trying it out i usually play trumpet

  • @rafaelr9447 Keep at it! James Morrison also usually plays the trumpet...

  • my god, i would like to play like he. awesome !!!!

  • I PLAY THE TROMBONE! :D

  • James is one of the best all time musicians on wind instruments. Musicians respect him as their choice of trumpeter. To sit infront of him in the front row is a unforgetable experience. Not only a trumpeter, but also a smooth entertainer. Very classy.. My favourite!

  • meeee

  • Who the hell is this guy?

  • James Morrison from The Land Down Under...

  • read the description jackass

  • who here plays the Trombone say me ^^

    ~meeee~

  • I DOOOOO!

  • me to how long have you and kankuro been playing

  • me trombones rule!

  • TromboneFTW~!!!!!

  • if u turn the volume down on your computer a bit it sounds like a trumpet a bit and he is an amazing player i wish i was that good. :-)

  • Excellent technique and intonation. Bill Waltrous and he should do dueling trombones.

  • Wicked!!! James plays better than the best.

  • very, very bold statment

  • true.. is it really possible to play better than the best? then who is the best? "The best" as mentioned earlier by KlasJervfors or James himself?

    Think about THAT now!

  • wow this guy is like tonguing super fast (in a non perverted way) and no trombones are a lower instrument

  • Is it just me, or does trumpet and trombone sound the same?

  • it's just you.

  • lol

  • I'm sorry, but it really doesn't.

  • Lolllllllllllllll nope they sound nothing alike

  • well let me give you an educated answer, really at times it cant, though its very differnt some trombone players can make the trumpet and trombone sound the same

  • jimmy you kind of changed direction after the doors huh?

  • can anyone transcribe this?

  • @worlidge94:

    do it yourself..

  • My second favourite trombone player ever, behind Bill Watrous!

  • It's legal to be that good?

  • SUPER TROMBONER!

  • I first saw this solo 2 years ago and I still think it's genius!

  • legal!!!

  • I never get tired of this solo...

  • what song is this?

    nice solo by the way!!

  • the song is flying with the wind

  • this guy is a monster. He can play trumpet, trombone, and saxophone fluently... thats worth all my respect.

  • Ohh man this guy is phenomenal. I could listen to him play all day long!

  • great sound!

  • Soul!

  • Yeah he has the wycliffe edge LOL TboneWertman...

Yo... I didn't know he played Trombone! I heard him play TRUMPET and I was blown out of my mind, but TROMBONE, TOO? Jesus... any more of this playing and I might die. This is sick! He has so much soul, I LOVE IT!

  • You should hear him play Sousa Phone!!!

  • nice sound quality and tone (wish i was that good):)

  • wow great tone and difficult articulation nice!

  • As an ex-trombone player, I feel qualified to make a judgement: this man's horn playing is fantastik!

  • Ha its the white Wycliffe Gordon

  • yeah, he's got wycliffe's sound!

  • wow great embouchure strengh i hope i get this good!

  • amazing!

  • your right... the emboucher is tremendous..

  • his embouchure must be super awsome for him to be able to go back and fourth between brass instruments as well as he does. pimpin

  • he also plays saxaphone =]very well i might add

  • That trombone looks to be a little rusty!!!!!!

  • The "rustyer" the better

  • I like it extra rusty

  • JM = The Bomb.

  • that was wow five thumbs up

  • sweet dude

  • 10-14 omg thats so hard i tried on my trumpet and i failed miserably...

  • yeah, that's pretty trippy. I'm going to try to figure it out.

  • morrison is awesome !!

  • If any of you guys have a myspace account got to myspace tv and type in I asked for a blues and check out James playing this piece that he is playing now.

  • I looked at a Bill Watrous video and Bob McChesney and I feel like James Morrison plays with more heart and he keeps the listeners attention. Wycliffe Gordon is on another level. He is one of those guys that goes with the mood of the crowd so you never know what he's going to play and that's a good thing. If I had to pick though I would pick James because I like his style more. I think James would appeal to a person who doesn't really like jazz.

  • He is a monster tromber

  • Klasse!

  • I love James Morrison. But all this fussing is a bit discouraging I must say. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. All of the trombone players that have etched a place in jazz history have something valid to share with each one of us! Its not football or politics folks, its jazz. Peace.

  • Nooone compares to James morrison. He's a jazz God. He is entertaining, his solos aren't boring and self indulgent like most other jazz artists, and he's a champion bloke! (Australian no less). So up yours to everyone thinking he's just like every other player out there. You have no ears.

  • I agree completely -- he's among the best of the best. Everyone won't like what he does, but if you don't recognize and respect his musicanship and abilities -- well, I guess that's your loss.

  • When it comes to just jazz trombone, there are players I'd consider better(Wycliffe Gordon, Bill Watrous, and Bob McChesney to name a few). When it comes to being a complete jazz musician? I don't think anyone even comes close. He's mastered SEVERAL instruments, which is more than 90% of jazz musicians can say.

  • Fair call. Wycliffe Gordon blew me away at the MIFB last year. His jamming in the pub with Mnozil Brass was a special moment i got to share with them too! I think you can find it on youtube somewhere!

  • Without a doubt he is a good trombone player, but his playing doesn't inspire you in the way that someone like Roy Williams does. You could easily mistake this guy for any other trombone player of similar ilk. There is more than a touch of Phil Wilson and Urbie Green about his playing.

  • Lets hear you try to play like that !

  • he moces around way too much.

  • Not a flame, but you honestly don't need anything extravagant in a solo for it to be good. Some of the most basic things planned well come out amazing. :)

  • His technique and chops are amazing, but his solos are very commercial-sounding. What i mean is he playing is entertaining - but not out at all. His lines are pretty basic patterns. (before you flame me, yes he is better than me at trombone so don't bitch at me please)

  • öldürmek lazım bu herifi yaaaaa :)))

  • James is ok.

    Pawel Golec--tbn

  • "he's a bad man." i rofld.

  • He's having too much fun.

  • The trombone is his best (and was his first) instrument. He nails everything he plays but his trombone is just awesome!

  • Na in his book he writes that he started on Cornet and only picked up Trombone to get close to a chick that was at a music camp he went to.

    He's fucking awesome at everything:D

  • I love it. I got it signed by him too.

  • lol i believe that actually it was a girl eupho player in his grade 5 band ^^

  • I'm a 'bone playa an lemme tell ya.He is G-R-E-A-T!!!

most jazz bone players would love to have his technical ability.Great lines jazz ideas with lots of soul and history behind them.He is one of the best around today.

    bobriddle

  • Other Trombones players could never get up as high as he

can and make it sound good. And who ever said he was a bad man, James is one of the nicest guy I have ever met.

  • I'm pretty sure he started on Trombone, as a kid, before picking up the Trumpet. To me, he sounds like a "Trombone player" in this video. So what if he is "screamin'" up there, other Trombonists do the same.

  • he's a bad man.

  • wow. unbelievable. just so awesome.

  • I don't hear it. Where's the soul? Squeeling like a trumpet gets tedious very quickly. I admit he's a useful trumpeter, but...

  • then you're deaf ^.^

  • I admit, he's very very gifted to be able to play well on so many instruments. To me, though, he phrases on the trombone like a trumpeter, that's all. There are genuine trombonsits I would much rather listen to instead.

  • I hear ya man

  • Yeah they really many trombonists that i'd rather hear than him, but he really is blessed to play so many instruments with finesse.

  • You hearing his lines AT ALL? they're clean. And that just don't happen on trombone.

  • And Piano. Unbelieveable

  • He's good on every instrument he touches. What a legend, such a top bloke too!!

  • James is smokin', i've seen him live a couple times and there's always some suprise in his performance.Fucking amazing solo not to mention he plays as well on just about every brass instrument. The man's a true entertainer.

  • dude, i totly agree with evrything uve sed, how good is he on trombone , i say sometimes better then wen he is on tumpet
