Apparantly some seperate "species" and even seperate "genera" can breed together, which would explain their existance. I'd like to think that we didn't kill off Neanderthals but merely interbred with them, got the best features from them and then natual selection ensured "Modern Man" survived while dead-end Homo sapiens and Neanderthals died out. There are so many theories as to why the Neanderthals died out from disease (which seems very unlikely now) to Homo sapien violence (more likely but I hope not). I think being part Neanderthal is pretty cool! :D

When I was in college my anthropology professor, whom I had not previously met, asked me if I had any Basque ancestry. Why yes I said, my paternal grandmother was Spanish Basque. Then my professor told the class he could tell I was part Neanderthal because of my high eyebrows an other facial features! It was pretty cool, and I made many friends just because of that fact!
