@xmitchell27 Some people use nails, some don't. It's all personal preferance. Playing without nails is more simple IMO, taking care of nails takes too much time. Also, if you break a nail, you won't be playing for a few weeks till it grows back.

@xXxGoyexXx I totally get what you're saying :) Almost every classical player uses nails, since nylon strings played with just fingertips can sound too mellow. As far as I know Francisco Alfonso, Tárrega (In his later years of life) and Ranata Tarrago played without nails, using just their fingetips. Check out this piece that's played without nails : /watch?v=XaazpfbnhV0 It's amazing what talented musicians can do, even without nails and on a classical guitar.

you pointed to your extensor muscles in your forearm.. however when youre fingerpicking, you will be contracting your flexor muscles to bend your fingers. and they will pass through the carpal tunnel, on the anterior side of your wrist, not posterior.

what the heck? he's playing flamenco-style but in classical position!! flamenco position is right leg crossed over the left and the guitar on the right leg tilted slightly forward.

this is however a good way to introduce flamenco (freakin' awesome) and classical to people who've heard nothing but rock
