  • Damn. My focus just started sound like this today. Only at 30-65km. :)

  • part 2 of fix; REPLACE THE PISTON as any damage could cause later and sharp points on piston could cause problems. replace the#4 piston and rering all pistons. replace head with reman and swap cam and lifters. i have a friend that swears by these motors , i swear at them. as a former form tech they were plagued by head gasket failures in their young lives. the pre -roller cam engines would suffer from excessive cam and lifter wear to the point that the lifters would get holes &leak and clatter.

  • heres the fix, first i put a 200 junkyard motor in it to get her on the road, then i tore the old motor down (it allegedly had 185k on it, doubt it) i fount that the schrapel from number four valve seat failure wiped out the head and the piston and even though the head was peened by chunks pretty thoroughlyto the point the the rings were peened into the grooves and would not expand (the source of the noise i think). surprisingly the cylinder walls were unscathed.

  • fords are junk, this happened to my moms car. i have worked on cars my who life and have never seen this problem on jap or german cars. warned my mom not to buy this pos but to not avail, now i get to rub it in. and fix the pos. "quantity is job one"

  • Horrible design flaw here....FORD should pay for this!!!!

  • my valve seats went bad.... and BOOM threw a rod through the block......... i miss my 94 so dearly. im fixin to get another one tho

  • Mine has just done this last month. I took it to 3 shops before it was finally found. It sat for most all of this time. I didn't drive it because of what it might do. It's in the process of being fixed now. A rebuilt head with cam & all for $225 plus labor. I can't work on it at my apt. so I'm stuck paying a shop to do it. At least it'll have a warranty. I've never had an Escort do this. I've had 4 of them & all kept running to well over 150,000 miles with 0 issues. First major one.

  • Oneslow50, what year is your Escort?

  • @turbobuick33

    1996

  • how did u fixs the problem

  • @BeanGurl15

Bought a new head, cleaned everything very meticulously.. ran great for 250 miles... then the piston on #4 went (con. rod separated from the piston) and destroyed the cylinder wall. So now im in the process of finally getting around to putting a completely rebuilt long block in it with the new head (that wasnt damaged)

  • my wagon did that :( but worse

  • Give up! I had an Escort ten years ago. I now buy Jap as they just work. Boring I know, but by god they are good,

  • @harperonline not boring sir. modify.. american 4 cylinders are boring

  • My 95 escort is doing this how much does it cost to fix?

  • I just put one of these together yesterday that did the same thing. I love the CVH line of engines from the very begining but they do have a problem of doing this.

  • @1997FordProbeGT cause I know where a ford probe with one it sail

  • @1997FordProbeGT By the way, do you want a Mazda KLZE engine

  • @1997FordProbeGT You immature. Why dont you figure out your own stuff and not listen yo your dad. If Taurus was a bad car, why do you still see them on the road still. My father bought one brand new on 1989 and drove it until it reached 300.000 miles then gave it to my sister who later used it to trade it in. and dont call my car a ladys when your car is called a Probe. The only problem with the Vulcan is it is underpowered.

  • @1997FordProbeGT and I guess Probes didn't have transmission problems. My Taurus has never had any problems. So fuck you and I am a Ford mechanic.

  • @1997FordProbeGT and my brother's mustang with a 3.8 has 300000 miles and my tarus with 270000 with no rebuilds. umm hmm. yes there was a recall on the 3.8 in 96 about head gas failure but the tarus engines are about bullet proof.

  • sounds gr8 now just rev it tilll it blows

  • Ouch hopefully my 2.0 never does that to me.

  • i'm glad you posted this man.. my valve just dropped today and now u confirmed it was really a valve seat drop for me...damn big drop...

  • Comment removed

  • It was fixed and put back together, but the valve seat damaged the piston so badly, that the wrist pin separated from the pison and damaged the cylinder walls, so now the block is being replaced with a junkyard block and being rebuilt again. Luckily it did not damage the new head or valves.

  • I'm not a spammer. I have a 2000 ford focus that threw a rod. 2.0 sohc motor. Blew out of the block and landed on my driveway. I replaced the motor and am now using marvel mystery oil. My boss recommended it and his ford windstar has 250,00+ miles on it, sounds beautiful. Just a suggestion.

  • Yeah but the Ford 3800 and 3.0 are much more reliable than the 1.9 Engine.

  • I heard it was a problem if they over heat that the valve seat would fall out at destroy the valve piton and head. I say one and the lady had to pay for a new engine.

  • wow, i dropped a valve seat in my engine, and after replacing the seat and putting the engine back together, my engine sounded EXACTLY the same, what point of repair is this?

  • You have to clean the intake manifold really well on any engine that does this or all your work of fixing it will be ruined in minutes after start up. I've done 3 of these escorts myself. All 2 litres tho.

  • ouch

  • Odd, friend of mine has rolled his odometer over 3 times now and has never had any issue with his engine, with constant abuse and lack of maintence.

He has had 2 transmission failures due to the same reasonings though lol

  • damn i woulda been pissed! lol u got it sorted?

  • im glad mine dont sound like that how much did it cost you to fix?
