don't get me wrong i love zeppelin but whenever they play live plant always ruins it alittle bit for me. he improvises to much with the melodies and the lyrics. and i dont no why they decided to raise this song a whole tone, it sounds like he's straining his voice to hit those high notes, if they played it in d like on the album it would have suited his voice just fine.
That was the beauty of Zeppelin live, every show was different, with the music constantly changing. I think you'd actually have to see them live to understand. Watching them on a video is nothing compared to actually seeing them. They raised it a whole tone due to the tuning on the guitar. By raising it, they would only have to re-tune 2 strings on Page's guitar, which saved alot of trouble, since it had to be put back in standard later for Stairway.
@AllysWorld05 i kno its easier but i just thought with their money he mite have a guitar tuned and ready for the next song, i do see your point though, you'll never really experience a band live til you see them with your own eyes
its not like there was a factory producing those Gibson Double Necks. Back then, they were on custom order, and why have another guitar when you have a guitar tech to do the re-tune. And believe me Page did and does have the money to afford another guitar. Last time I heard, he had 2000 guitars.
@persbol Plant was having a problem with his voice around that time due to an upper respiratory infection. That's probably why. You can hear it breaking up on the high notes.
@Cubbys69 no actually it was because at the end of the 1973 tour he damaged his vocal chords so after the tour he got surgery, it altered his voice and he had constant problems singing in the 75 tour
@LedHead747 that's the thing with plant, he had a great voice but he didn't know how to sing properly with his diaphragm, that's why he damaged his vocal chords.still doesn't change the fact that he wrote great melodies and lyrics, and that zeppelin is one of the greatest bands ever
I play this song when it rains sometimes. its just cool to listen to it and watch the rain fall through my window. Such an awesome song. I wish I could've been alive to see them live in those days. I hate my generations music so much. Fuckin pop bullshit nowadays.

Teste scoppiate!! Cio' che vale viene sancito dal tempo. Siete stati moda effimera e come tutto cio' che e' effimero, sparirete se non siete gia' spariti!!
@Tony63909 it's the song that made me want to learn how to play the guitar, and it's the song I will forever remember of learning how to play it, how I felt every chord of it for the first time, how the emotion was thought by Jimmy in every little sound that makes this music.
now i prefer this version more than the madison square garden cause in msg there is a cool movie of robert plant but i cant really see the right chords page is using instead of just figuring them out by ear in this song to learn them :)

I blasted the studio version of this (from the 1973 "Houses of the Holy" album) on the freeway, on the rainy predawn ride home from work, even rolling down the windows and letting the droplets bounce onto me. I've been a Led Zeppelin fan since I was 15 years old, and this is one of a handful of their songs that still sends chills up my spine and gives me goosebumps. True classic . . . and then as soon as the song was over I turned down the volume and rolled up the windows. :3
jimmy page is best rock guitar player of all time. sungha jung is the best over all guitar player of all time...check it out and thumbs up if you agree. i love page though..
In the original recording page played the song in Open G tuning but what tuning is he using in this one because to me it sounds like standard and when i play it in standard it sounds like this.
@cybercop112 He leaves all the strings in standard, but tunes the G up to A and the B up to D so it's one step higher than the album tuning (Open Page).
