I have this same problem. I want to get it fixed, if I drive it to the shop which is 30 mins away, would it damage anything else? I also have a shit ton of smoke coming out my exhaust. Never had a problem like this
A quart of Lucas oil additive with your favorite brand/weight of oil should do the trick. As you near your next oil change (i.e. when the oil and additive begin to break down) it will slowly return, but that's gonna happen with pretty much anything you do to these HLAs.
I fixed mine by putting some engine flush fluid into my oil, letting it idle for about five minutes, then draining the oil and switching to synthetic. Now it'll only do it when my motor is low on oil. My motor has 165k and is going strong.
I bought a 93 a week ago, been sitted there since so. Started for a few minutes like 3 days ago. And now i started and i got that noise! I don;t know what to do, i'm using 20-50w oil on its 120,xxx miles engine
use thinner oil, 10-30 works just fine, in face its the recommended viscosity in the haynes manual which you should absolutely buy borrow or steal if you want to keep your car in top shape with your own two paws.
My 93 miata is making this exact same noise, im going to change the oil in the next few days and use 10-40 and I'll update on what happens!

yea i use 10-40 & it goes away starts coming back after 3,000 miles, it's an extra reminder to change the oil

Actually that's what it turned out to be. Change the oil reminder. I change and it goes away. Nice.
