  • what a wonderful pop song i remember the summer of 66 thinking richard speck was gonna come down from chicago and get me

  • 0:33, 1:30, 2:58, isn't Mama Michelle. Who's is her?

  • @caravaggio31 Probably Jill Gibson, Michelle's replacement after John fired her.

  • @flanative67 Yes, you're right, she was the wife of Mamas&Papas producer Lou Adler but she never could come closer to Michelle.

  • 1:35 great toilet shot

  • john phillips had some crazy hats

  • The most prominent Feature in this Song, is during the Riff, before the 2nd time the Bridge is Sung, Denny comes in too soon and blows his Cue. He continues on, thinking it will be Edited out later. NO WAY!!! A further implication of John teaching Denny that me made a mistake, Fooling Around with his Wife. Add that to the fact that he made them Sing it at every Gig, really let them know how hurt he was. Hence, the beginning of the War between The Mamas and The Papas.

  • @desico thx for passing that along about the mistake beautiful pop music is not always perfect i guess

  • i sometimes watch on tv movies and other shows that were on before rock and roll music sprung up (particulary the mid '60s onwards) and am amazed at the complete difference between the pre rock and roll era world and the world after rock and roll. Its like watching 2 different planets with different creatures. In such a short space of time ( relatively) , say comparing 1948 to 1968 for example, that 20 year period. gees what a change. mind blowing stuff.

  • Looking at Rainwhisker167's comment, I would say that the only one who wasn't at all a bad person was Cass.

  • wasn't this like the first music video? I remember seeing it on TV at the time, all of them drive up in their cars ( John on a Cycle) at a clothing store on Sunset Blvd.

  • great song inspired by an absolute real-life emotional train wreck. what irony to be in a great, successful band where everyone's stuck in a twisted love quadrangle.

  • You had to be there, to live it, the first time you heard it, the first play on the Radio Station. Where I was it was KMEN out of San Bernardino I think...... You people read way too much into it. This was junior high for me.

Narsisistic.........What? get a grip, it's just feel good music.... thats all........!

  • @Gohot229 ,,had 2 have been KRLA or KHJ for me in LA..when this fantastic song blasted it's way into classic ville. those days in especially 1965-69...those four incredible years,,, will be ever duplicated,,sadly to say. and that isn't just a old fart claim. the sixties was an era that changed and created so many things, no other era will claim,,,such social revolution in clothes, politics, love and peace, space, war, and music. i dare anyone in the next 1000 years to try. they can't,,,no way.

  • Great narcissistic music ...it's all about them. But the voices were undeniably wonderful! Thanks for the posting.

  • I saw them three times on the strip in LA. Fucking great times!

  • Good Cut.......

  • anyone catch on 229 that it was not Michelle but it was Jill Gibson.

  • @Desiree50

    I thought "MIchelle" looked different

  • @Desiree50 yup. briefly she was with the band.

  • "The middle part was fake - it never happend in the sixties". Not sure what the poster meant....if they are questioning whether the middle part was not part of the original song...yes, it was. The entire song, every second of it, was exactly as it was released on disc and played on the radio in the 1960s.

  • Unreal harmonies..................

  • This is one of those beautiful songs you wish you didn't feel related to your own life when you hear it; so gorgeous, yet so close to home.

  • 1 person didn't see her again last night.

  • I agree with CadillacL, this is the best M&P tune.

It makes me think of my parents singing this.

  • The stereo effects are pretty crazy. Isolate the right channel at 1:05 to hear what I'm talking about. Still cracks me up after all these years.

  • The vocal stereo effects are very dated, but also still pretty wild. Isolate the right channel at 1:05 to hear the "doo-doo-doo" choral part...still cracks me up after all this time.

  • this song sends chills up my spine..it's so good, crazy good

  • NOSTALGIA.

  • very nice job

  • look @ 2:52 and beyond....the women on the couch is not Michelle, I believe John @ one upset point replaced her

  • @idlwrx Yes, she was replaced, for a time, & in o ne album cover was cut out & replaced in it.

  • michelle phillips..my god. she was absolutely beautiful.

  • This had to be VERY uncomfortable for the group, as it was John Phillips writing about Denny Doherty's affair with HIS WIFE, Michelle Phillips...from Denny's point of view! Just another "pop song"...hardly! Still, it is my favorite M & P song.

  • who cares its a good song

  • who cares its a good song

  • What do you mean "fake" have you listened to the original LP?

  • @nezedge I think i know what he means by saying the middle was a fake on 245 or 246 Denny flubbed.AS Michelle said it was a mistake but we kept it a mistake. At least i think he meant that.Peace Desiree

  • Are you referring to the fact that this is the longer album version? There was an edited version released on single, perhaps that what you are thinking of. Both versions have been available since the song's release.

  • Great work here ! I love that song too !

  • Most would pick probably "California Dreamin", "Monday, Monday"

but, THIS is m all-time favorite

by the Mamas & the Papas.

  • @CadillacL Kinda agree. Depends on what mood strikes.

  • @CadillacL this is a much better song listen to the way cass really blows out of the water
