@l7ebels they might beat Hawthorn under the conditions prevailing at the Docklands, but on the softer grounds of the 1980s and 1990s very few sides from any era would have a chance against the 1988 Hawks.
In fact, when the grounds were firm in the first five weeks, half-a-dozen other teams were competitive with them, but when the weather broke up Hawthorn were quite simply in a class so their own with the long, aggressive team play and tapping-on.
