  • Man I want to learn German. je sais seulement un peu de francais :/

  • Compare this to the German that Sarah Chalke speaks in her interviews. What a big difference!

  • @Priamosish and?

  • He speaks very good German, easy to understand even though I don't speak German very well.

  • @ToastedCigar He was born in austria, an area people speak a german dialect in. So his first language was german.

  • i am from austria, read subtitles anyway

    christoph blinks ALL the time!

  • I'm foreign to this language, however, for me it seems kinda sound like french.

  • @janzei Maybe it's because you (unconsciously) think that the German language is supposed to sound harsh and grating? I'm not accusing, just a suggestion. :) I think I unconsciously subscribed to the wide and erroneous belief that German is a 'not beautiful' language, but I've concluded that German is actually quite beautiful! Its sounds are sensual and very interesting.

  • @PHILOSYNC I actually like French because i think it's so sexy, hahaha, that's why I think German kinda sounds like French.. =)

  • <3 Christoph so much, so charming!!!

  • Fuck the illusions of body perfection and eternal youth. Real timeless beauty is charisma. Christoph has charisma. Such a fine presence. He is cultured, sophisticated, clever, brilliant...In a word: sexy. J'adore!

  • For some reason I am thrilled to find out he is just as clever and bright as his acting is. I don't know why, but I would've been very disappointed if I were to view clips of Waltz interviewing and found out he's boring.

I have never been more impressed with and actor as I was by Waltz''s Hans Landa.

  • i don't understand half of it but it's beautiful *.*

  • @bemurazi well, for better or worse english is erasing it from the map as the younger generations must learn English in primary school and apparently like it better than their mother tongue :(

  • I just wonder if a german person could listen to an English interview with the same intrest not understanding a word like i have with this interview, great language which i hope one day i will learn to the best of my abilities

  • @JeremyTheGoat 99% of Germans speak English, fluently and some other two or three languages besides German. The other one percent just not so fluent.

  • English is like a Sledgehammer, german is like a scalpel....;)

  • @Kreisliga1000 I say it's the other way around. English is soft, specially US accent. Their R's are so soft sounds like they are out of breath then pronouncing. More like, German is a sledgehammer and english is... I don't know, something really soft that won't hurt anybody. Only your throat when you try to pronounce its soft vowels.

  • German is the language of poets, thinkers and innovators. Only americans find that the german language sounding ugly. The german language is the most complicated language. It's not sounds like french, its a huge precise language....

  • @Kreisliga1000 german is not a complicated language but its definately an interesting language, and doesnt sound ugly at all :)

  • @guitar4098 for the most people, german is to difficult to learn. it's more difficult than russian or japanese (and there you have other ideographs). this language has the most words and a very strong grammar. when german is not difficult for you, be happy. the most people see it differently...

  • @Kreisliga1000 well i speak polish and ukrainian, so i understand russian :P knowing english as well, german isnt that tough of a language for me :P

  • whenever i see his face i think of inglorious basterds...

  • cant wait to go and live in germany <3 ich liebe deutschland

  • haha.

  • german is such a beautiful language, i'm happy that german is my mother tongue :D

  • pfft i don't need subtitles! i can speak german and understand it!

  • German language is so sexy. : )

  • @hollywoodsmle im fluent lol

  • @hollywoodsmle it's just because christoph is speaking ;) I'm a german i know what I'm talking about ^^

  • @hollywoodsmle hey danke! ; )

  • @hollywoodsmle Danke

  • No it isent, is fucked up, can you believe they have three

Definite Articles, And they are all random, fckin hell

Es ist eine Ficken schwierig sprache...

  • @Southparkateer2 yeah that would be: es ist eine verfickt schwierige sprache ^^ but you're right. I wouldn't want to be in a situation where I had to learn German as a foreign language ...

  • @Southparkateer2 haha, well basically every other language is a lot harder than english. I had to learn mine (which has umlauts, accents and a ton of articles, rules etc.) then German, when it came to english.. I could really laugh my ass off about it. The only semi tough part can be the pronunciation because (US) english is so... soft. The R sounds like you have no breath at all, it's like trying to say an R and losing all your energy all of a sudden.

I'm glad English wasn't my first language.

  • @ManchurianCEO Common british english is the most

beautifull language on the planet, German is just impressive

  • I'm so happy speaking german... I could listen to him all day long :)

  • LoL there's no austrian accent

  • he looks even scarier talking german

  • give him whatever language, he still sounds hot!

  • I'm a Jew. Fear me.

  • @MonkeysInMyHouse I don't fear you, I fear Israel's brutal way to occupy land.

  • @MonkeysInMyHouse Illegally occupy land.

  • wie oft blinzelt er ? :D:D

  • @hitman89141 was hast du gezählt? :D

  • @hitman89141 hast du langeweile? xD

  • Anyone who says that German is an ugly sounding language needs to watch this clip.

  • @one5643 Yeah. I use to think German sounded like senseless braying. Nowadays i just want to go back and punch my younger self right in the dick.

  • @one5643 It's ugly when women speak it, and cool when men speak it. It's a very masculine language

  • @drewsky684 are you kidding me???

  • @one5643

umm, so their belief can be confirmed?

  • Bet that woman got a fright at the start ^_^

  • waltz can answer interview in French, English, German and probably Italian!

  • I do believe I can die happy now.

  • Yeah, even don't understanding a single word I came here to hear the german language, wich is bealtifull by the way.

  • I wanna speak German....

  • Schauspieler völlig außer Reichweite

  • He doesn't speak with an Austrian accent though... he speaks German quite like... a German. lol

  • @theshitaIker he has an austrian accent. you just can't hear it that well because it's not a strong one like in west austria

  • @theshitaIker The word you are searching for is "hochdeutsch" or "standard german". Its an accent germans speak geographically in the 1/3 central-west of Germany and it is the most spoken accent at all.

  • @Kreuzritter1989

  • Comment removed

  • @theshitaIker that's because not all austrians speak with an austrian accent and by the way when he is talking on austrian tv his accent is way stronger...i guess he just adapts to the situation haha

  • ämmmmmmmmm

  • ämmmmmmmmm

  • ammmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • shit im addicted to listening german language even though i dont understand it!

  • me too, i'm actually learning german starting 01/15/11. I've started learning already by myself. I can already understand certain words in this interview.

  • @alexgibson198209 :) You could say ich spreche kein deutsch also

it would be like the different between i do not speak german and i do not speak any german. german is a really beautiful language once you get to know it! viel spaß!

Ich liebe ....the language a lot.

I think it shouldn't be too hard because the structure is the same as english since english is a combination of germanic and romance languages.

  • thank you for the subtitle

  • Thanks for the subtitles

  • Hey, an interview where he DOESN'T have a beard!

  • for some strange reason this video is giving me the impression that it's difficult to speak german.... I mean in general, I;m not talking about a foreigner learning german....

it sounds..... I don;t know... very scientific?.... also the verbs are at the end.... is it just me or does anybody else feel that way?

  • @bbphnix

well it is not difficult to speak german in general, but you are right with your feeling , cause christoph waltz is speaking in a very intelligent and poetic manner

  • @Itscheho that makes sense.....

  • @bbphnix It is not really scientific, perhaps the grammer is slightly more difficult than english, but anyone could learn to speak it if they put the time in . Also not all the verbs are at the end of the sentence, only the second verb. For exampleI like to play soccer, would be Ich mag Fußbal spielen (I like soccer to play).

  • who is the woman that is interviewing christoph walz?

  • Mmm. I watched this whole thing, not understanding a word of German, just because I love Christoph Waltz :-) he's so sexy, intelligent, well-spoken, sexy voice, kind, & just fabulous. Ha :-P some of my favorite eye candy.

  • Hmm...watching him speak german is so...Fulfilling...

Seriously, it just feels good >.<

Hachja..

Aber Christoph ist wirklich uber smexy *3*

  • 0:20 , now that bitch go OWNED !!!

  • Are german and austrian the same language?

  • @schmidt9018 hahahahaha idiot!

    switzerlan and austria speak german

  • @schmidt9018 yes but in austria the people speak an austrian dialect

  • @schmidt9018

Yes, it is the same language

  • @schmidt9018

    yes

  • @schmidt9018 Don't worry about all these people insulting you. I was totally about to ask the same thing.

  • @schmidt9018 as far as I know yes... and I'm quite sure about it....

    austrians speak german

  • @schmidt9018 there`s not such a thing as "Austrian" it`s all German, they just have a dialect

  • @decowomen that's right, but english speaking people call it austrian.

  • @decowomen wtf

  • There.. I have removed the unnecessary info..But could not fix the bug at 2:08

  • Oh gee but she asked much better questions than american interviewers. Or perhaps thy only sounded complex because of the slightly confusing translation XD

  • @guruguruponchan27 I am working on making the translation "less complex"

  • Oh no worries C: I get the gist of it anyway. It would always be confusing with a language I don't know, I suppose.

  • @divsaxena : the translation is complex because the man´s answers are complex.. I admire how he makes an effort to give honest and appropriate answers and not just dish up the same stereotypical answers as your regular hollywood actor. Quite an actor.

  • @divsaxena Okay okay...

  • Man listening to the german language is so interesting...

  • Dann lern doch Deutsch ;)

  • @Faukerz seriously! i mean, i love listening to spanish and french because they just sound sexy when people speak them but german just sounds so interesting. i can't really put a finger on what it is haha.

  • @Faukerz learning the german language is interesting too ;)

  • Aren't you overreacting a bit? The woman asked an interesting question. Do you always have to be obediently friendly? She gave Waltz a good opportunity to shine. I'd rather have such a "rude" question than the boring flattery that you usually get.

I also liked that bit about the loud and funny atmosphere not being his cup of tea.

  • Thats a good way of looking at the situation, yes.I dont mean to argue, but dont you think it would be better for the lady to come prepared for an interview and read up well on prior interviews the subject has appeared for.Even Christoph sounded irritated when she asks at 4:19 "how does this part affect you personally, being an actor, your acting career".

  • And what did you want her to ask?

He doesn't object vehemently to the statement that Germans and Austrians know their Nazi history but the idea that Tarantino portrays history which is the crux of the question (the moral implications or lack of thereof of IG). This tricky first question aside this is a very regular interview and I don't think he's offended.

  • someone I know who often interacts with Germans says that they are very direct. I can see enough evidence here on this page :D I totally respect that.. I guess I ll have to be doubly vigilant while responding when Germans or Austrians are around. Thanks for the lesson SoylentGreeeen :)

  • @SoylentGreeeen It is 1:58 am right now in my timezone . Next time Germans are around, I wont respond to comments when my brain is not sharp enough to stand the edge of the German mind. It is not without reason that Landa also mentions THE CUNNING AND PREDATORY INSTINCT OF A HAWK that Germans possess . Please take it in the right spirit :) :)

  • Oh, please, don't flatter me like that. I think I'm blushing.

  • In fact, saying WE AS GERMANS OR AUSTRIANS KNOW OUR NAZI HISTORY VERY WELL sounds so pompous and truly deserves the fitting reply Christoph gave her saying ALLOW ME TO OBJECT MOST VEHEMENTLY.

  • Well, I think quite a bit was lost in translation here. Germans and Austrians tend to be a bit...touchy...about that specific piece of history, so the interviewer kinda rushed through that statement, like stating the obvious. Because, you know, we probably DO know more about the Nazi era than people in other countries. And, as somebody else already stated, Christoph did not object to that statement, but to the idea that Tarantino was trying to make a historic Nazi era movie.

  • Comment removed

  • @divsaxena

he is in fact not objecting to her saying that they as germans understand their nazi history very well. she is merely referring to the education one experencies here regarding the nazi era.

I just felt that "We germans or austrians" didn't sound that good in english, because she didn't mean, all people living in Austria or Germany. She was referring to them both being Austrian/German and because of that probably knowing the history of that time very well.

  • What I mean is that making someone uncomfortable and winning another point is not the purpose of an interview

  • It sounds more like an attack

I personally steer clear of such people

However we are all entitled to our own choices

    SO I respect yours SoylentGreeeen

  • sorry for so many broken replies, youtube is acting up:(

  • Please don't take offence but I think you misinterpret the atmosphere of this interview, probably because you don't speak German and these things are always very subtle.

They are both very polite and he doesn't seem offended to me. At 4:19 Christoph does not sound irritated and I don't think he should be, because the woman just asked him how his role affected his private life and career. His answer is not obvious, it is not something you can read up.

  • @SoylentGreeeen ok :) Looks like German, after all, IS a tricky language like so many have said :) I learnt my lesson..

  • I have re-synced the audio with the subtitles today, so I hope the subtitles are fine now. Please native German speakers, validate me on that!! Thanks a ton to "puppetofmasters" for providing the translation for the entire text of the interview.

  • @divsaxena The subtitles seem okay to me, but there's something funny at 2:08, perhaps a technical problem or something :)

  • The lady asks very pointed questions, sometimes even bordering on being downright rude. I am still trying to sync the subtitles. Will post them within a week..

  • @divsaxena I'm wondering if she'd actually watched the movie before doing this interview. And even if she had, I'm not sure she understood the more vital parts of it.
