It is now, however 3 years ago when this video was made it was K277 and the reverse train was K276. CSX dropped many of the K train designations and started the Q7XX series. This included the Juice train which used to be K650.
@charlieb640 I would be willing to bet there is some lack of maintenance on these tracks....CSX track maintenance standards are typically lacking compared to NS. Fouled ballast, rails not perfectly true, etc. I've studied both systems' trackage extensively, and while CSX is improving, their track maintenance is still not what NS's track maintenance is.
sorry bubba ? but i couldnt detect any variation when the train went by, i used the tops of the rail cars and the crossing gate poles as a reference, there is no change in height at all. please tell us what you are seeing here?
there not bouncing, the road GROUND gets higher not the rails, giving the illusion the train is (pumping) usually a void or poor ballast condition, if it was the actual rails its called a twist, if the CANT raised more than 10mm in a 3000mm (3meter) distance space then it would be taken care of asap
I work for CSX in the rack department. and agree with you. I worked on these tracks at one time, and on big mainline freight tracks such as this, they would not be undermaintained.
I wonder how many trains went by that had sparks, machines guns , spikes and other nasty stuff pointed at the side thus scaring the crap out of the car drivers. :)
Typical lack of preventative maintenance on the part of our government supported "white elephant". Train de-rails keep us busy at NTSB, frankly the days of the iron horse died years ago. Its time we try something new.
Now try filling out your work order when you're bouncing around like that. I always photocopy my work order and fill out the good copy once we're off the train.
the video frame rate blows too hard to really see.
it seems like there is a dip in the center of the crossing, making the front wheel on each car dip on entering the crossing, then both the front and back wheels raise up simultaneously (since they are the same length as the crossing itself) , creating a "hop". i wonder what the amount of added stress that causes to the whole damn system.
They don't look like they're bouncing to me...that creaking sound is natural at train crossings. The trains that go through my town always make that noise and the track is fine.
those things are so raunchy on hot days. PU, i gotta hold my nose when they pass. Arent train tracks at crossings supposed to flex a little tiny bit so there arent derailments. NO OFFENSE to CSX but they do need some work done. Nice colors though, just like catonsvilles colors.
There is no bouncing going on here - or very little if any. Those trash cars (USWX, AWXX, etc) all are not actually flat - but are curved slightly for increased strength. Fix your line of sign on the top of the gate and you will notice nothing is bouncing.
RR crosings have longer cross ties and engineered to resist rail 'flexing' when trains cross. (quite expensive, but keeps roadway pavement in good shape for cars to drive across.) The tracks on either side of crossing are built in a normal fashion where a degree of flexing under a moving load is to be expected. When cars roll onto stiffer track at crossing, they will tend to bounce due to the springs in their wheel sets.
The contents of this train came from one, average, middle-class American household... ;)

My guess is 53'.
